I like shovels the ones made in the 80s late 80s 87-88 but the stuff now no second of all if you want to pay for something $3,000 just get you Jackson pc-1 it'll do five times or more what that thing does

I just played my Guthrie Signature at a Latin jazz combo gig today and I'm playing it tomorrow night in a country band. its an amazing tool if you work hard enough to rationalize owning something that fanfuckingtastic to play on.

These guitars are really fantastic. Now with the single coil switch, it's all you need for any music style you want to. Plus they're crazy comfortable to play. They now come in Ash body or Basswood body with maple top.

Man this was an awkward video. I don't know if Guthrie is just tired from NAMM, but there were a few awkward silences.
@mollers92
@mollers92 9 лет назад
I think that's just kind of how Guthrie is. Comes across quite intense and serious, probably half the reason he's got to be as good as he is haha
@JoshuaConnorMusic
@JoshuaConnorMusic 9 лет назад
mollers92 He's usually more laid back and much more composed on his speech. Here it felt like he was scrambling for things to say, whereas usually the guy speaks like he's writing a book on the go. He just seems very tired to me, which during NAMM is understandable.

Why should Guthrie be eloquent, he's a guitarist. It needs an interviewer to bring him out of himself, and so did the other dude. Clunky and not useful.

I have a question guys (Music Zoo)? Since some people do it different. What is the radius of the trem 16"? Since it's a compound radius board. I have seen them 12-16". Thanks!
@briandietrich1373
@briandietrich1373 7 лет назад
The non-fine tuner Floyd is the best. Not sure why Chip didn't just use the shims that are available to make the radius match. I set radius's on Floyd's once a week using the shims. Any insight?

"Baked Basswood," Cooked Maple." an interesting combination of people and materials that go into creating a somewhat simple electric guitar. I look at the things that went into recreating a musical instrument that made its first appearance approximately 65 years ago. Today we have a Hipster southern California guitar manufacturer that's part of the legendary Fender Guitar group, a prodigious 44 year old eccentric British guitarist banded together for the Herculean task of reimagining and rebuilding the six string electric guitar. How many times must we revisit the drawing board before its popularly decided that we have come up with a perfectly good guitar? I believe it all harkens back to a simple phrase I wrote down in my journal about 20 years ago where I said; There's no time like the present to imagine the future where you can relive the past..."

***** I have a vintage NFT Floyd on my main guitar and I promise you it's functionally identical to Charvel's bridge. They tweaked a few aesthetic things (the Charvel has slightly rounded saddles), and matched the saddle radius to the fretboard (I have shims under my saddles), but otherwise it's the same. The Charvel bridge also has a pop-in arm, but Floyd has had that part available for about a year now, so anyone can swap it out on their trem if they want. I think one of the real reasons Charvel went with their "own" trem is because of supply problems. Floyd Rose has been having issues getting parts from Schaller in Germany, and Schaller has been having some quality control issues the past few years (ever since the father died and the son took over.) They just now restocked the NFT Floyds, which have been out of stock everywhere for well over a year. These are at least some of the reasons builders like Suhr and Tom Anderson have switched from OFR Floyds to the Gotoh licensed models: much more consistent quality, easy to get a hold of, and they're just as nice as the Schaller-made OFR's (actually I think they're a bit nicer these days, TBH.) My early-80's NFT Floyd is a solid piece of hardware: there's virtually no wear on the knife edges, the fit and finish is fantastic and even the screws are still in great shape. The only thing I've replaced is the trem arm bushing (the nylon washers wore out on the old one) and saddle blocks. I'm tempted to buy one of the modern NFT Floyds to see what the quality is like, but I'm not holding my breath that it'll be as well-made. Case in point regarding Schaller's whacked QC: when my set of new replacement locking blocks arrived, two of them didn't even have a hole drilled for the lock screw to set into! That's kind of an important feature to completely miss doing, since without that little divot they're useless. It doesn't bode well for Schaller's rep, IMHO.
@catdumpling
@catdumpling 9 лет назад
***** I've been wanting to try one of the Floyd push-in arms, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I prefer the old style "screw in" arms, but the push-in ones look promising (and not a big loss if I don't like it.) Here's the link if anyone else is interested: www.floydrose.com/catalog/upgrades/tremolo-arms/push-in-style-arm

Guthrie hasn't been with Suhr for over two years now, although he won't discuss why (that makes him pretty classy in my book, though!)
@Chris741113
@Chris741113 6 лет назад
I have a feeling Suhr wasn't ready to build something that needed all these special parts. I mean, design and produce a completely new bridge? Pick ups? Might be they don't even have the resources to do something like this even if they wanted to. Suhr will give you modifications to their existing designs, but probably not something new from the ground up like this guitar.
@mrbeatdoctor
@mrbeatdoctor 6 лет назад
Well, John Suhr has said in his interview on Tone Talk that one of his now fired operations people was a dick to Govan and that he didn't know about it until it was too late. Govan has said that he liked the Suhr guitars but clearly the guitar from ground up opportunity was icing on the cake of a new group of people to deal with.

Around 4:15, Chip says Guthrie stuffed “cigarette papers” in the bridge area. Busted! That’s probably one detail Guthrie would have preferred to leave out. Chip is of all over him with production details, It’s Kind of painful to watch.

Perfect selection of woods, bridge hardware and pickups, baked maple neck, stainless frets, TremelNo, perfect 5 way wiring, sculpted neck joint - all brilliant! However, such a shame that it's butt ugly! Natural maple body, neck + brown pickups? (the flame maple version is not even nicely book-matched for 4 grand! ) I'm all for functionality, but a just *little* attention to aesthetics wouldn't have gone amiss. Yeah I know, "eye of the beholder" and all that. But really, stand back and take a good look at a photo of one...
