Gab: she sounds 40 Me, knowing one of the reasons that the original voice actress was let go from Herinteractive because they felt her voice was getting too old and the VA was not happy about it: oh dear...
Well she does? In every game she sounds around 35-45, not at all what a teen girl sounds like. It's not a diss, she is an incredible actor, I think she acts better than the young VO in the Salem game. But she sounds her age. The studio were buttholes for firing her, her voice is charming and she adds a lot of spirit to the role.
@@guidetoanything I think its also the reasoning for firing her was BS. They publicly claim it was a creative difference (aging of her voice), but considering she was a staple of the series and fans adored her that seems unimportant. It was legally recorded that she "broke" her contract by "leaking" information about a new game right before her termination. This information was basically already leaked/theorized by fans and she just confirmed it-thats negligent-but not contract-breaking for a 30+ game series. These games are pretty formulaic and any "leaks" happening wouldn't ruin sales. Most people suspect that Lani, being a higher-demand voice actress, and having a 30+ year contract with HER, was pretty expensive. Probably the one of the biggest costs in production of these games. HER had a big boom in business in the early 2000s but in the last 10 years they've had a steady decline of sales. Its very likely they couldn't really afford Lani anymore and found basically any reason to terminate her contract. They replaced her with a very small-time voice actress who hasn't been confirmed for any further games. I think she did an okay job. But she's not Lani. Trying to replace someone with 49 years of voice acting experience is a very stupid move imo.
@@lilcrabbybabby that makes a lot of sense. Dang, she deserves better. Why couldn't they let her keep the Nancy Drew games, and hire the new girl for a new game? Branding matters but they can just put like "from the team that brought you nancy drew..." And make a whole new series! It's dumb they threw away one of their biggest draws.
That's why I don't like or play the newer games. I don't like the voice actress at all. This Nancy is so much better. Idc how old her voice sounds. She's Nancy.
“There’s an alarm on the soda machine?” Yeah Gab, you’re in Florida now. Kids break into machines all the time. My high school had to bolt ours to the concrete since kids would tip it to get free snacks. Welcome to Florida! Where school lunches suck so bad we have to steal food.
@@lokicooper4690 it’s been about 10yrs for me but this was neither a poor kid school or a rich kid school. I remember the band kids bringing their Dad’s socket wrenches and unbolting it during after-school practice. 😆
The books in the chest with yellow covers and blue stamps on the spine are supposed to be Nancy Drew books! I read a ton of them as a kid and that’s what our set looked like!
I actually really like that Nancy sounds so much older than her canon age. The books have been around since 1930, and throughout the games there's some meta stuff that gives a sense of playing as Nancy Drew (The Character) rather than Nancy Drew (a person) and her having such a mature voice just seems to fit that. (I also find Lani Minella's voice really soothing on its own. She reminds me of someone like Jessica Harper or Susan Egan - not so much that she sounds like them, but her voice is really distinctive and low/resonant and pleasant to listen to in a similar way to those actresses.)
for someone undercover, nancy isnt so subtle with her detective work LOL p.s. Your Nancy Drew videos are the best! really feels nice to watch them during study breaks
Fun fact, this voice actress (she did all but the latest game) is the same one that did the sea emperor in the first Subnautica game :) Her name is Lani Minella, I think she's done a bunch of other games as well
I know I'm super late, but no one seemed to notice the anagrams! "O Wise Elder" is an anagram for Eloise Drew. And the masked marauder called themselves "Nicone". An anagram for "Connie". These games freaked me out too much as a kid, so it's awesome to see someone else play them! 😍
AHHH I FLIPPED when i saw you played a new nancy drew. once again gab, this was awesome. thank you! ps: how dare the culprit call nancy "snoopie susie" ugh it's NOSEY NANCY
There is something so cozy about these Nancy Drew games that make them so much fun no matter how many times I might replay them. I definitely had to use my brain quite hard during this stream (my brain deleted nearly everything from my science classes), but this was a really fun one! It got so intense so quickly aha. Thanks for uploading this one to RU-vid. Until next time!
I've NEVER been so excited for a Gabs video!!!! This takes me back to my middle school days. Sitting in the dark, playing this til 3am even though my mom would've KILLED me if she knew lol Good times.
Yessssss, sneaking downstairs after bedtime to play on the family computer :) I'm so excited to see my one of my favorite RU-vidrs enjoying this series
Gab: Teachers usally just leave sticky notes (with login and password info), right? Me, an English teacher abroad: *glances at said sticky note on her monitor* Yes, can confirm.
It was so much fun to watch this during the stream! :D If I'm remembering correctly, the original version of the game ends with a dramatic confrontation at the pharmacy in which Nancy ends up with a gun (somehow?) and has to point it at the HVAC guy. Oh, and the characters in the original were all 2D even though the environments were 3D, haha. If you do end up playing all of the games in order, you'll probably notice a lot of little references in them! Her Interactive loved including nods to previous games and hints at future ones. :)
@@iansurya2985 Secrets Can Kill was the title of the first ND game they ever made back in 1998, but this is the remastered version that came out around the same time as their 22nd game. :)
YES! Honestly I can't get enough of you playing the ND series. I highly recommend checking out Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, and Danger on Deception Island next! Those were my personal favorites growing up. 💙
I started this after Scarlett Hand and I just realized that the person who wrote the original Etiquette essay is Prudence Rutherford ajdnaj love how Nancy Drew games will sneak in characters from past or future games
You don't know how much I needed this right now. I've got severe cabin fever from being stuck in a hotel for god knows how long. We're renovating my kitchen but have to put cement on the floors. Since it's been raining here, they won't come out to do the cement. Then when they finally have a chance to come out, the main floor guy has a severe heart attack so that puts me and my family back in a hotel. I am also having to babysit 3 dogs taking turns since we cannot leave them anywhere without them going psycho with anxiety. Yes we could put them in a doggy thingy but like were already spending so much on the kitchen and the hotel itself so yeah. I have to miss a baby shower next week because of this reason and my uncle is coming to town. Just thanks for giving me something to give me a much needed smile right now.
So cool how tech has changed! I had this game as a kid (og not remastered) and it had 2 cd-roms and to travel anywhere other than the first house, you needed to switch disks. My second disk was scratched so I could never finish this game. Excited to watch Gab play!
In the library, the diary all written in French is about a guy who bought this notebook at a place named Winnipeg. He used to work at the Brill labs for 40 years, possibly a lab doing animal testing, but now he quit or was fired or something. He then took a train to Edmonton (we don't know if he actually stopped there) and went camping, and a few days later found a baby wolf whose mother has been killed by a hunter
I get they're high schoolers but omg the way they talk about a fellow student who died is insane. And the detective she is working with is also insane! How dare an 18 year old ask for help from the dude who should know more than she does.
Nancy is 18? Now it makes more sense how she is able to get away with a lot of this stuff. A nosy kid is a lot more tolerable than a nosy middle aged woman.
Wow this game takes me back! We borrowed this game from the library one summer vacation in elementary school and played it late into the night. My brother and I had a pact not to scare each other because the music had us so on edge lol.
I don't usually comment, but I literally just finished your Village playthrough and thought, I could really use a good Nancy Drew video right now, I guess I've learned to predict things. :D
(I'm typing this as you begin, so don't know ow yet if you address it) Fun fact: The original Secrets Can Kill game (you are playing the remastered) had a conversation close to before the end of the game where, if you chose the wrong choice of conversation, you were completely frozen and could no longer finish the game. So you would play the entire game and get stuck. It happened to me and it was awful. I was so mad lol
"Hey new girl asking everyone questions about the murder, did you hear there's a private investigator gone undercover?" Nancy: *surprised Pikachu face*
Man imagine if jake made all these intricate clues about “his fate” but then was murdered by someone he wasnt expecting. That would really throw thing off
I love that you're playing these games! It's nice to see them gain traction from bigger RU-vidrs. Might I suggest Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon or Warnings at Waverly Academy (one of my personal favorites). Alibi in Ashes is good too :)
Don't know why I get flustered when the characters get irritated when i investigate. Meanwhile, you just want answers and you go for it! Lol. Love watching you play; I'm playing this game myself...and listening to audiobooks to get into Nancy's head. 😅
Thank you for all the work you do Gab. I have really terrible anxiety and have been struggling a lot lately. You're very calming. I hope that's not weird lol but your videos really help me a lot
OMG YESSS I promise you'll love the classics! I seriously love watching you play Nancy Drew! It's so calming and soothing to watch you go through the puzzles!
Oh I'm so glad to see Gab play this! I remember playing the original game and having to swap out the CD's to get to different locations! I think that was the most frustrating thing about this one.
It's kinda funny, there's a murder mystery novel that also deals with a highly disliked high schooler who knows all of his classmate's secrets and gets murdered. A couple of the characters are also pretty similar to Hal and Hulk. Not surprising why watching this reminded me of it. It's called One Of Us Is Lying. Highly recommend!
this game used to terrify me as a kid, specifically the part when you're in the kitchen at the diner, watching it now there is really nothing scary but i think as a kid going somewhere where you're normally not supposed to in a restaurant was terrifying combined with the surreal and almost liminal primitive renderings of the environment..
I'm A new subscriber, found you during the res village games. I went back and checked your content, and so glad I found you. You are alot of fun to watch gaming, I like your vibe. I'm only a VR gamer, which I found at 50 but enjoy watching certain peoples gaming vids.I watch my RU-vid faves way more than TV. Thank you for all of your hard work and great content. Looking forward to your future vids!
@@elizabethfoster4297 I would love that, I love these games but don't have time to play but I'm always looking to listen to things. As I've played a lot of them and have a good visual memory its a great way to revisit them for me
Message in a Haunted Mansion and treasure in the royal tower are my favorites. So glad you are playing these games. My sister and I used to have girls nights and play them when we were little
This was one of my absolute favourite Nancy Drew games growing up! I am so happy to see you playing it hee hee, especially because I still love it (and have it)!
This was my first Nancy Drew game I ever played. And after I accidentally blew up the diner, I was so spooked I couldn't finish it. Love watching these Nancy Drews with you! Though I'm impressed you didn't accidentally blow it up.
I need more Nancy drew. I can die happy when this playlist is like a hundred episodes long. I’ll be on my deathbed telling my non existent children to put Gabby Drew on the RU-vid machine. The staff at the nursing home will put the playlist on to calm me down while politely reminding me I never had kids. Rumors will spread between the staff that old man duke fell prey to the curse of nancy drew and to never watch the playlist for themselves or else they too will lose their minds.
everytime i rewatch Gabs nancy playthroughs i find or hear different easter eggs for other games its so cool.. this one already has a few in it for future games
Lmao imagine in the original 1998 version of this game, Nancy actually pulls a gun on the culprit! I can see why they changed the ending but it’s still so intense lol
Got an advert while watching for ‘Peril in Pemberley’ so now have not only the rest of this to watch but another game to buy. Wasn't meant to be watching (all night) but couldn't sleep for the excitement of getting my cat home today so these videos calmed me down from the excitement but anxiety also 😂💕
These Nancy drew videos are really a highlight to my day! I remember playing these with my sister when I was young and oh boy how I miss those times! But I’m so glad your doing this series Cus I can kind of relive my childhood! Thank you, it makes my day :)
I played this when I was really little and the high school scared me so much, especially when the creepy music would come on. When that happened, I bolted out of the school as fast as I could. XD I was such a pansy.
i felt the same with the Final Scene. I did ballet and we would perform in theaters and when my mom got Final Scene, it scared the absolute crap outta me xD
I'm happy Gab is playing these :) I've watched her for a while and it's nice to see someone play them/appreciate them for the first time! It makes me feel so nostalgic and I wish I could play for the first time, again. I still own nearly all of them lol. I have a few with the actual box art ❤️
This is still one of my favorite Nancy Drew games for the fact the it did have so many hidden hints throughout I missed that in the other games. It was fun to decipher the hints.
My first PC came with this game (and StarCraft, and Red Alert). I never appreciated it back then but these ND playthroughs have been a treat. P.S. Will you be playing Subnautica Below Zero now that it's fully launched? 😮
This one gave me a good chuckle multiple times. Thanks for playing these gab!! Also, the static effect on gab’s face at around 1:48:55 is just golden editing 👌
I'm really glad they remastered this game (It was released in 1998!). I remember it being on two discs originally. I got the game from the library and never finished it because the second disk didn't work for some reason. I remember the characters being actual cut out 2D photos. I'm glad to see this game through! I never expected that ending!
1:10:00 when the Nancy Drew and the Phantom of Venice cat suit music and sounds come on... so much anxiety from playing that minigame over and over to afford every clothing item... what an intense flashback...
Loved watching this playthrough!! Can't wait to see which one you play next. I'd personally recommend Warnings at Waverly and Sea of Darkness. Top 2 imo!
These games are so precious I can’t believe it took me 15 years to get around to watching gameplay of them, I love Nancy drew and I’m so ashamed I didn’t know about her video games! Not that I’d be smart enough to finish any of them, these games are super hard, even from a viewers point of view.
oh man watching this makes me feel so nostalgic! this was the first nancy drew game i ever played & i remember failing so many times at the boiler puzzle because i kept panicking over the time limit lol!
So excited to see this play through! I played this as a kid (and a ton of other Nancy drew games lol) but never finished this one so I’m super interested to see the ending! Also that thing about how school works where you’re from is how I wish America did it too. Instead of rounding out on a little bit of every subject I think is just overwhelming. Anyways, love watching your play throughs! ❤️
I love Evelien's Nancy Drew game play videos! When I was little I would sit beside my mom on the computer and watch her play Nancy Drew for hours, I was always to scared to play them myself. I wanted to play them now, now that I'm an adult....but I'm still too scared 🤣
Gab’s notebook protects her from cocky silly boys who try to charm her 😹, although this first game it’s short, it’s cool to see the start of the Nancy Drew Series.1:34:55
Yes and no. Its the first story, but this is the remastered version, so its a bit more up to date mechanics wise. Its from around the same time as shadow at the waters edge in that regard
I thought Nancy’s voice actress was maybe like late 20’s lol. She was 48 at the time of this game. I thought Nancy was in college too. Her friends always looked college age. I’m so confused lol
