Nancy mastered the open chords due to her sharp ears for music. How she incorporated these techniques in her songwriting is quite extra ordinary for a guitarist. She has the knack for romantic melodies and reveal her virtuosity in the instrument. Love Alive is one of my favorite she performed on acoustic guitar. Very lovely but mysterious. Very creative that enriches the listener. Nancy is one helluva talent. I love her guitar playing style using open chords that is magical to the listener.
These Nancy Wilson videos are something I've rarely seen. A world class musician, simply and carefully explaining her art in a way a non-musician can grasp and appreciate.
Liked, subscribed, pushed the notification bell. Now for a comment, thank you, dear lady. The music you have put out over these many years, has brought me through many difficult times. I’m thankful for finding this video, I’ve played guitar for several decades. Music is a blessing, that so few ever realize. I’m getting older now, but I was there when music was real! True artistry and poetry in one composition.
if you think Nancy Wilson isnt a technician, you are a fool. She was and is one of the best accoustic guitarists of all time, and has the skill and training to back it up. dont lump her in with yourself as an idiot savant because you cant read sheet music. Nancy Wilson is absolutely a technician, she just uses common language to portray what she already knows by heart, pun intended.
She may be calling it “a scale thing” because the harmonized run changes keys? The low run goes E D C B A while the high harmony run goes G F# E D C#. It’s two scales, one scale into another. It starts in A minor (implying the A Dorian mode) scale and then lands on A7 (implying the A Mixoliydian mode). She is mixing C (b3) and C# (Major 3) in the same move. It’s Rock ‘n’ Roll in A. It just sounds so good. It’s brilliant. Just that lick alone. Nancy keep your licks alive. Thank you. 🎶💜🎶
I've been playing that one acoustic for over 30 years , one of my 'go to' songs 'but what a master riff writer , Nancy I love you , my wife has known all a long..rock on ...
Actually Roger Fisher would be the master riff writer on this song, Nancy played the complimentary part with those harmonics she showed. Master musician in her own right though of course!
You can see for yourself here, Roger just recently shared this and other live early Heart gems on his channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--D3EB0AI5z0.html
@@Katerina9256 thats so crazy you'd say that , that the same week for me , prior to that I knew little about Roger , I had always thought he'd split back in the day , over whatever relationship reasons but he seems very cool , not bitter , mad respect for the guy , all of them actually , I almost put them on par with Zeppelin , Nancy I would drop my entire world for , hehehe ...
I am going to watch, listen, try, listen, try, watch, try this until I start to get it. God, I wish I would have learned to play 40 years ago. I might have this down by now....
Nancy, you and Ann have kept MY love alive since 1975. You were the steady heartbeat of life and hope that was missing in my very scary young life with extra measures of PTSD. I'm alive because YOU were there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤🩹❤
What a fantastic for years ever since I was in elementary school, I’ve been listening to Heart I had absolutely no clue that she played the intro to “ crazy on you” Absolute a great guitar player fantastic all the way around ! I love both of them both
I loved Heart for many years and this is one of my top favorites. And the way she explains the structure of the song is exactly how I play myself (I write a lot of songs with open chords too)... And Nancy and I share a birthday!
The opening little riff is the same figures as What Is And What Should Never Be, just a different cadence and it goes to other figures. Cool. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
I always loved the dreamy sound of these chords! It is so beautiful Nancy! This song transports me to a beautiful dreamy place! Pay attention youngsters, this is songwriting and muscianship at it's best!🎸🎵🎤🥁
I believe Roger came up with the main riffs here but obviously Nancy added her usual genius and melodic accompaniment. They are both incredible musicians ❤️
@@Katerina9256 Roger says Nancy composed the intro. Ann said back then that she just wrote the lyrics to "an acoustic guitar solo Nancy had" (and the "Too Long a Time" demo did have vastly different lyrics). Nancy actually says it was an "ongoing jam" she and Roger played together so they probably were feeding off from each other.
@Vonter Voman interesting ...where does Roger say that Nancy composed the intro? Because if you look at any live performances of this you can see that he plays the main riff always. Nancy adds the harmonics and other notes but does not play that opening riff. Seems to me if she wrote it that she would be playing it and he would be adding the harmonics etc. Anyway I'm looking to see if I can find further details. Thanks for your comment! 😊 ~~Katerina
@@Katerina9256 Under the comments on his Crazy On You interview, somebody asked him who wrote the intro to Love Alive and he said Nancy composed it Screenshot: i. ibb. co/y0kkKVS/Image.jpg I guess they just wanted the melody to be played on the electric guitar, sounds closer to a sitar sound which I think was the idea
@@Katerina9256 I think maybe my previous comment is not showing up due to a screenshot link. Anyway, someone by the username Zard Sketter in the comments of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gg6yrldreE4.html asked Roger who wrote the intro to Love Alive and Roger responded that Nancy wrote it.
So pretty to hear it all how this song came together. My favorite song! and Thank you Nancy for the best teacher for this difficult notes to play ❤️ this is the first song I wanna learn to play on my new acoustic guitar 🎸
You are too kind to just share this with your time. Thank You and Vancouver loves you(Prince George not so much lol!). Hope you don't mind Vancouver considers you from here..shame on Mushroom. Thanks again.
Been wanting to play this since first heard it--my favorite due to a experience with sun coming up one summer morning at family summer lake house and LoveAlive was playing as a cool breeze along with a ray refecting off the water was the most peaceful15 seconds of me life so far along with your music a top ten moment for me So sorry just finding you !! ❤ My dog and I still spend some summer time there cant wait to play it to him (Bodee )❤
😄 I've put in countless hours listening to her play over the years --either to learn or just enjoy. She's truly been a gift, she directly inspired me to pick up guitar at 16. Amazing player! ~~Katerina
Oddly enough was the first Heart song I figured out. Dreamboat Annie definitely sent me on a love child trajectory in 76-77 (?) thanks for the reflection Little Queen, the wonderful songs are to long to list.
Love your videos, I’ve been watching more and more of them. The only recommendation that I could make would be to use a guitar with fret markers, it would just make it easier on us novices.
There used to be a video here on RU-vid where Roger demo'd this song alone, sang too. Can't find it anymore, but I had used it to learn to play this song.
Because it's in their professional series...I believe it's a P3 model. There are dots on the side/top of the neck, presumably because a pro would mostly be standing up performing, and not constantly looking at the front of the neck. So, they don't need no stinking dots😄
@@Katerina9256 Since I'm pretty much a beginner/intermediate, when I'm trying to learn a song, the dots help. I agree that a professional doesn't need them, but it's pretty rare on any guitar model where there aren't dots or some other design on the fretboard.
@@jimalice1 I hear ya. I have a lower-end g series model that looks just like hers but has the dots. Plays pretty sweet too, I love it! Also hers has a split bridge . There is some advantage to that but at the moment I can't remember what it is😄
I can leave this world happy if the sisters would share the secret of what the verse from dog & butterfly means. Frozen Strangers Stealing your Fire It's a unusual verse but what does it mean Nancy ,Ann. What is the meaning
I wish I knew what she's talking about; pretty much no eff'n clue. Therefore I buy ALL their stuff and go to ALL their concerts. Send'm to Mpls if you could; its been awhile since last I saw'm.
I could only see the first sentence of your comment in my notifications until I opened it up...but I was going to say 'because she don't need no stinking fret markers!' lol.....actually her guitar--the Takamine P-3 pro series model--does have them but they are only on the top of the neck and not on the fretboard. Not for beginners! ~~Katerina
