Nangka Masak Lemak | Malaysian Young Green Jackfruit in Yellow Coconut Curry | Nangka Masak Lemak Cili Padi is a traditional Malay recipe that is famous in Malaysia. In this recipe, young green jackfruit, i.e., unripe fruits from the jackfruit tree, are cooked in a gravy that is yellow in colour from the addition of turmeric. Ingredients
1 can Young Green Jackfruit 550g (nett 355g) (Nature’s Charm) or fresh young jackfruit
2 pieces lemon grass (serai)
1 big onion, sliced
2 small onions, quartered
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1 inch piece fresh turmeric or ½ tsp turmeric powder (kunyit)
1 red chilli, sliced
1 tbsp vegetarian anchovies (optional)
5 bird’s eye chillies (optional) (cili padi)
1 inch galangal (lengkuas) (optional)
165 ml coconut milk (santan)
1 cup water
1 piece tamarind slice or 1 tbsp tamarind juice or 2 tsp lemon juice (asam keping)
½ tsp mushroom seasoning

Thank you! I love this and will make it soon! I love seeing how you prepare the lemongrass. I didn't know you were supposed to mash it. And, I didn't know about tumeric leaves! I'll look for those! I didn't know about Vegan Anchovies, either!! :)

Thank you so much. So glad that you like it! Yes we do hit lemongrass to release the aromatics. It can also be sliced thinly and ground together with the other spices. Turmeric leaves do add aroma and taste to this dish. They are used quite a lot in Malay cooking. Hope you will try the dish.
