Thanks, Pete. I am impressed by the construction of both filters. They seem very well made and clean. Clearly, Wix is no longer making the NAPA Gold filters. Looks like the Vietnamese owners of Microguard bought some of the latest, most advanced oil filter manufacturing equipment from China. There are sales videos on RU-vid from the Chinese manufacturer. Very impressive assembly line. Mostly automated. High quality filters.

PGI makes Napa filters now. It was confirmed at their corporate award event. They look well made and I’d use them.

Got to love the Microgard consistency and quality. The Napa/WIX lineup has change hands and manufacturing in the past few years. Microgard, regardless of where it's made, is one excellent filter!!👍

Napa always has marketed itself as better than the rest, and they have switched their mid tier filter to Vietnam from USA... Should say something. Both filters are amazingly clean and look very well made. I wish the MANN&Hummell and trico (champ/fram) looked that good in their upper tier consistently.

They do look the same. But the Microgard Select is my favorite filter. Been running them for a couple years in trucks with heavy-duty driving here in the mountains.

I think I'd save the three bucks and get the Micro Guard. Pretty much identical except for a little more media.

The MicroGard looks better with more inlet holes and no burs at the end of the threads. The Napa Gold looks quite jagged @ 4:19 Strange since they're both made in Vietnam.

Mann-Hummel dumped the contract with NAPA, so they had to go find a new manufacturer. I run the Microgard Select exclusively now because of the build quality you see. However, recently had a report of a new NAPA Gold made by PGI missing the spring, so the filter element was rattling around in the can. Another reminder to check your oil filters before installing them.

I notice the heavier steel gauge on the Napa baseplate. Larger anti-drainback valve as well. Probably why NAPA gets more for it than O'Reilly's. Watch for sales!

Just a word of caution. I have a very great condition 1994 Thunderbird. AutoZone has an STP version of this filter in extended guard. It was identical as well to the microgard. I use the filter with full synthetic citgo 5W-30 motor oil. On engine start was anything from a light ping to a short knocking. I switched it to a motorcraft filter in the noise went away. From what you showed here, I'm wondering if the filtration paper can be too thick causing restriction.

They are not identical but similar enough that they look like they came out of the same factory. Both appear to be quality filters. I saw another video for a shop that came to the same conclusion - the Napa Gold is no longer made by Wix but is made by MicroGard.

Very nicely made filters. Looks like Vietnam is the country have oil filters made. Nice quality on both. Thank god no cheese grater center tube to restrict oil flow. I never buy those kind.

Two of the best filters I’ve seen. Super clean and great quality. However, the threads look cleaner on the MicroGard, whereas the Wix looks to have a lot of flash on the end. It’s a shame I can’t use them on my Mazda CX-5, because the bypass valve settings are too high.

I don't see why you couldn't still use them. It just wouldn't go into bypass as much.

The high bypass shouldn't hurt anything and some would say it's actually a good thing. You don't actually want your filter going into bypass. That's unfiltered oil cycling through your engine.

Ozark Automotive appears to be a distribution and importation network owned by or part of O’Reilly auto parts. Mann and Hummel has a factory in Vietnam . These are foreign made Wix and Purolator filters. That Purolator baseplate is unmistakable for anything else. I will say they look perfect and most likely made with close to zero touch labor and the plastic dust cap looks very sterile. Why can’t we build factories like that here?

Wix/Purolator are mostly made in Mexico and made in China now since they were purchased by Mann-Hummel and the quality has been poor. Vietnam has been producing the best oil/air filters on the market for a few years now.

@@kimmillard9445 Purolator is now owned by Mann-Hummel and many of their filters are made in Mexico and China. Some filters are still made in America. Purolator filters have also been shown to have poor quality control as people cut them open and show torn media and closed louvers.

Recently came across a new oil filter I haven't seen before. JEGS has their own brand. It's very competitively priced at 3-4 dollars and looking at the one picture they provide it seems decent. Have you seen these before?

I've never opened one, but I just checked their website, and the image they show of the inside of the filter looks very similar to the filters in this video, except for no silicone gasket. They claim high flow with a micron rating of 99% at 23 microns. I'll try and open one of these up soon.

MicroGuard is manufactured by Purolator/WIX. They're actually really good filters.

MicroGard is actually made by Premium Guard/PGi and yes they're amazing filters. Mann-Hummel now owns Wix/Purolator and the quality has suffered.

Every car has four main filters: the cabin filter, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter. The function of all these filters is to enable flows and catch impurities: the dust and contaminants in the air, the impurities in the fuel or the dirt in the motor oil. Could this be true? I had no idea

At first glance they both look like Mann and Hummel products. The filter on the right has a Purolator baseplate and the one on the left looks like a Wix. So they may be Vietnam built German filters. How Global of them to export more American jobs. I love me some Purolator but I like mine to speak English.
