Incredible! Just when you think Dr. Vaknin has covered every nuance of Narcissism 🤯. Also, Machismo is so huge with Latin Americans. It’s practically promoted. Stories of my Mexican grandfather being physically and emotionally abusive toward wife and children still give me the chills. Appreciate so much that we have a professional and experienced guide to help us understand, manage, and heal from Narc influences. Wondering if Dr. Vaknin has reviewed (in videos) major historical figures of the past and how their Narc traits and personality have influenced the world!? Would he very interesting
I'm conflicted whether to feel sorry for the narcissist or to judge them by their behaviour as an adult who should know right from wrong. If their behavior comes from trauma, should we have compassion for them and excuse their bad behaviour or should we condemn the behaviour? It's really confusing 😕 If we are dealing with a '2 year old' mentally, then how can we condemn the behaviour? Should we just accept that we took a loss in dealing with them (or in the case of a parent, unfortunately had them as a parent)..and try and move on as best as we can?
oh my God. "excuse their bad behavior" is EXACTLY what narcissists want! That kind of over-reaching empathy only enables poor conduct, and doesn't help the receiver nor giver. Every adult has issues to face, and it is not one adult's job to regulate/rescue another adult. It is the narc's job to get help, but most will never do so because narcs Like being who they are and are quite happy to see everyone else as the problem.
You make soooo much sense! I think if the psych field followed your reasoning then better treatment and healing can ensue for the suffering group of ingrown kids that never grew up…
Narcissism-an organizing principle of society 👏 Narcissism and a tool for understanding history, and we must consider cultures that entrain these traits. Despite prevalence of traits-this doesn’t mean it’s precisely a personality disorder in a person. Diagnosis is not based on behavior, but on the distinct delusional internal position of the person behaving in such a way. A psychopath or person with narcissistic traits KNOWS the truth, A pathological narcissist does not lie but is deluded within themselves, with an unstable inconsistent identity. Thanks for these distinctions. ❤️
One red flag: divorced twice. We need one or two more red flags for walking away... doesn't matter if we deal with NPD or something else like BPD or just a benign looser who must to clean the shit before entering in a relationship.
@@Lizbeth36961 For this reason, we need 1 or 2 more red flags. That means 2 or 3 red flags if you do the math. They don't have to be about divorces. It can be any combination. In the case of gambling addiction, one red flag is enough (maybe I fit in here because I play video games :)) ).
@@Lizbeth36961how close you with that person? Some ppl are great for strangers and event close friends, but horrible for closest one's partners. Shadow needs expression if it is supressed in relationship with you probably someone else pays the price (probably his /her EXes)
Dear Kristyna❤ I understand you because I was on the same shoes but different country. I left him and I lef the country. I can read a book how He treat and threatening me very badly. He tried to kill me but I am still alive😂after 21 years ZERO CONTACT. Thank you Profesor Sam.
Sam, I still become unsure about the exact differences and some topics between a Psychopath and a Narcissist, because many are both or Malignant Narcissists. Are all psychopaths/sociopaths also Narcissists and how does this affect all of these internal functions? I need to rewatch all your videos again on Psychopathy.. do they transition between processes on a minute to minute basis while in a comorbidity? I request another video about the differences of them, especially when they are combined. There’s also the psychopathic states Narcissists can hold, correct? I would like to email you in regard to a meeting for Q&A. You’re indeed the most knowledgeable professor on these topics. Many so called experts on these Disorders spread false information, as you have mentioned many times.
Watching your videos has helped me connect so many dots, but I'd love if you can theorize further about what borderlines and psychopaths can do to start to heal. How can we change our thought processes, like CBT, but specific to these pathologies
