One thing Watts didn't count on was Shannan having an incredibly loyal best friend. She was less than an hour late for her appointment and Nicole was at her doorstep calling the police, calling her family. She said my friend wouldn't leave without her shoes, without her kids carseats and medication. What an amazing display of love. I'm so sorry that Nicole had to deal with the death of a friend that she clearly loved a lot.
Knowing how much she loved Shannan it's really hard to see Nickole standing in the same room as the man who killed her and the kids. It turns my stomach.
Have you seen the body cam footage when they find the phone and her and Chris both reach for it and she pulls back, shaking her hand after? I always felt like at that moment she knew, maybe not consciously but something warned her that he wasn't to be trusted
I love how Chris’ mom has spent every moment since the murders exhibiting exactly the kind of behavior you’d expect from the mother of a sociopathic murderer.
Yes, she has somehow found a way to make it all about herself or this bad thing that 'happened' to her son...like he didn't cause any of it? In regards to her saying she wasn't worried about Shannen being missing, what she really means is she was happy it sounded like they were separating!
Narcissistic personality disorder, while not "genetic", gets passed down through the life provided a child and young adult during their formative years. My mother is a NPD/APD covert. Has ZERO emotions other than for herself. Like Chris's mother, these people do not see their children as separate people from themselves and anything a child does reflects on the parent. This is why the parents of murders, like Watts, will defend their children at all costs.
Right .. I was like how insanely petty and fkd up to bring up such a tiny “mistake” or small mistakes Shannan made…. WHEN UR SON LITERALLY KILLED HER. Like.. it goes to show how LITTLE dirt on Shannan.. she couldn’t even think of a good reason… and to GRASP AT STRAWS to put her down after she was murdered blows my mind….
I'm really struggling to understand her perspective. Is she implying that killing small animals is worse than her own grandchildren? Utterly bizzare. edit: I got the context wrong; she's saying he didn't do such things as a child. Still a weird comparison if you ask me!
And she's clearly not smart enough to realise her logic chain says ok, he didn't kill small animals, therefore not a psychopath, therefore he killed his wife and drowned her granddaughters in vats of oil just because they were inconvenient to him. But hey that excuses her because she never raised a psychopath. Denial on a truly insane level right there
The fact that his mother did an interview AFTER she and her grandchildren were brutally and heartlessly murdered by her own son talking about how she didn’t like her daughter-in-law for the most petty reasons is just too infuriating. I didn’t know she went on tv and did that. Disgusting and shameful.
Cindy blames Shan’nan for letting Chris murder her. It is disgusting how Shan’nan has been vilified. It doesn’t matter if she was horrible, which she was NOT, I have never before seen/ heard victim blame like against Shan’nan. She was gorgeous, loving, a devoted mom and wife, adored friend, beloved daughter, sister, cousin, niece. She suffered terribly with Lupus and was very sick, yet seldom complained. Those precious little girls were her life. It is a bizarre phenomenon how a victim of a horrible, brutal murderer’s life has been so picked apart and judged. She did not deserve Lupus. She did not deserve to be mistreated by her husband’s family. She didn’t deserve to have an unfaithful husband. She didn’t deserve to be murdered. Why is that so hard to understand?
It really is disgusting…she didn’t care a THING for her grandchildren. A self-absorbed loser; nothing better to do than meddle in her son’s life, and talk shit about people.
Oh my god right?? This drove me crazy!! She’s talking about how she didn’t like what Shan’nan said about her sons hair…. Uhm excuse me? Ma’am your precious baby boy murdered his wife, the mother of his children, and their three innocent children. Kindly, stfu. Forever.
I couldn't agree with you more. Pitiful woman. She said something like he needed to have someone good by his side. Ironically the person by his side for the previous 6 weeks was his mistress.
I think the fact that his mother badmouthed the woman who WAS MURDERED BY HER SON AND IS NOT ON THIS EARTH TO DEFEND HERSELF, tells me a lot about why her son is the way he is and felt entitled to do what he did. Disgusting. His mom is just as disgusting as he is.
I do wish he would have taken Cindy's advice and left Shannan long ago. Not for his sake, of course, but for hers. He didn't deserve a drop of the love she had for him, he didn't deserve the absolute trust and unconditional love of those two little girls (one of which his mom wanted to fuckin poison! And then when Shannan stood up for the safety of her kids, the Watts just like... decided to say fuck it and ignore their granddaughter's birthday. God Chris just did not give a shit about that, wtf.) They loved him so much. Even if Shannan sucked or whatever, how could he do that to his daughters. I'm ranting in this comment section but god, its just all the subtle ways he and his parents were evil to his wife and kids, even before he committed his vilest act. And Cindy is still just a nasty bitch.
Even on the ring camera, you can see Nicole wait to make sure Shannan gets inside safely. She's truly a bright spot in this awful situation. My condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy.
@@csugar100 I always feel so bad for the surviving family and friends in these cases... the guilt and self blame must be immeasurable.. and the "what if i did this, would she have survived"..
Oh my ex mil beats her by a mile. She got mad at me and her son, because we went to the fair with our 1 and a half year old son but didn't put on a pair of tennis shoes that she had bought our son. So she wanted the shoes back. Punishing her grandson because his parents didn't do what she wanted. Yep fun 9 years with that as a mil.
do u really think he was gunna get away with it if it wasnt for the fat neighbors? there was literally no way he was getting away with it chris is an idiot.
he wouldn't have gotten away with it regardless. If Nicole Atkinson didn't call the cops do you think law enforcement then would've just assumed shanann and the kids just disappeared into thin air? The neighbors surveillance camera would've prevented him from ever getting away with it.
@@thescourge6989i think we've all watched enough true crime to know obvious killers will slip through on technicalities. she gave him NO time to hide or destroy anything further and was first to let everyone know how NOT NORMAL this was for Shanann.
That right there is the difference between a good man and an evil man. Nicole is a wonderful woman, and she's raising her son to be a great man. That's why he shines compared to Chris
I’m not shocked at how Chris turned out, his mother is repugnant. You literally almost killed your grandchild because you don’t believe her mother and then have the audacity to be upset with her over the situation. Then you automatically believe that your missing daughter in law was on a vindictive get away. AND THEN you continue to talk shit about her once she is found dead. Chris is a horrible horrible person and the apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree.
Of course she would automatically assume Shannan was being vindictive because she (Cindy herself) is such a vile vindictive person. Like a Karen who can't seem to comprehend that people help others out of the kindness of their hearts and not because they are being paid to do so as such a thing would never cross their minds.
@@Ordovician71 Hi, I'm curious about what ways do you think they are similar?? And please know that I am having thoughts about this. Holler back and let me know what you think. Appreciate your time
There was a case a few years ago where a guy in Moscow Idaho paid a co-worker 50 bucks to murder his fiancee. I don't know what it is, but some people apparently have homicidal ideations about their intimate partners and apparently they can't just break up. It's disgusting.
A lot of times it has to come down to shame. There was a similar case with the disappearance of Mike Williams. His wife set him up to be murdered because she didn't want a divorce. It would have been seen as shameful, it would have made her seem like a failure. (I'm giving her perception, not saying I agree with it). So her logic was if her husband was killed during a boat trip, it would seem like an accident, which happen. Thus no shame. This makes no sense and really shows how evil some people are, but there you go. It seems to be very similar with Watts. He clearly wasn't interested in marriage anymore, and divorce seemed like not an option for him. Could have been financial reasons, logistical reasons, etc. In his mind, killing his wife and family would somehow make him a free man in a way divorce wouldn't, even though logically he'd be able to be with his new girlfriend like he wanted. So really, who knows why people think the things they do? Nothing about what Watts did makes any sense, yet somehow it all did to him.
most of the time it comes down to men losing their houses , more than half of their income ,and losing the rights to see the children . The courts heavily favour women in custody of children . Men see no other option than murdering which is evil
it should not be baffling. femicide has been going on for thousands of years and if you count these psychotic people....there are always a few who don't feel empathy like normal people.
I’ve studied crimes for years. I went to school for forensic bio and law enforcement. That was the first child to make me cry while looking at or listening to a case.
If anyone is somewhat curious about what happened to Dieter, their dacshund dog, he ended up being adopted by Shanann's family and is primarily taken care of by her brother, Frankie. He still occasionally posts updates about his well being and they take good care of him because Dieter is their last living connection to Shanann and the girls. Edit: as of May, Dieter is now 12 years old and still living happily with the family. He has made an appearance on Sandy's cooking channel here on RU-vid.
Thank you so much for the update! I had in fact been wondering what became of their dog and am relieved to hear that he's with Shanann's family (and not Chris' family nor a shelter)! That is the only positive in this deeply upsetting case full of negatives.
we all know damn well Chris' mom, Cindy, reads these comments. Hi Cindy! You're a horrible monster of a woman! Go on! Celebrate your murderer son 🎉 He's never getting out of jail ❤
Chris's interview with the police was yet another classic case of "I can simply talk my way out of suspicion and/or any trouble. Surely I'll just be believed." He probably thought him taking a polygraph was iron clad proof he was innocent because after all, why would he take one if he something to hide? Lucky for us, Chris Watts was another example of a very dumb criminal.
@@badxradxandy Exactly right. Chris figured he'd have time to make up a story and manufacture evidence after getting home from work. Probably had plans for a dinner date with girlfriend that evening.
His mom had the NERVE to say "he didn't have the right person at his side..." this is infurksting. Lady, you raised a freaking murderer. The worst kind, the kind that killed his entire family. By saying he was a normal kid and never showed any violent traits, and he just grew more comfortable (whatever the f that means) and ended up doing this because he didn't have the right person by his side is literally saying "oh that woman he married turned him into a murderer". Like WTF. This woman is just as bad as her son in my opinion
The neighbor, when he says, "He's not acting right..." gives me chills every time. I can't imagine the fear he must have felt upon seeing his friend acting so suspiciously.
everyone knew he was acting strangely from the beginning. i remember when he was on the news asking for his family to come home, and it just did not sit right with me.
@@jeffreydrozek-fitzwater4649 It's absolutely wild. I feel like each person involved has their moments of realization. I cannot imagine the tension in that house that day and hope to never know such a dreadful feeling.
The most chilling thing about the body am footage is how Chris doesn't interact with Nicole. Like at all. He doesn't greet them when he turns up, he doesn't address her when searching and he doesn't try to comfort her. The guy is so transparent.
And then upstairs he tries to get her to come look at Shanann's wedding ring and save his sorry a$$ by going oh of course, well clearly she ran off - and Nicole literally turns her back and walks off. She's awesome, he's a pathetic turd
Makes me absolutely sick that Chris' mother claimed "He didn't have the right person at his side." , as if to imply that it's Shanann's fault for her and her kids murders, not only is his mother removing blame from him but also removing any theory that the way she raised him could affect him at all, from how his mother acts after this awful case it's no wonder her son turned out the way he did, absolutely vile.
My thoughts exactly. A rotten apple from a rotten tree. The fact that she deliberately put her grandchild at risk because she doesn’t believe the child has a food allergy is really telling. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s an undiagnosed psychopath.
Thank God for that neighbor with the cameras, Chris is literally caught in 4k like a moron. Also it is so wonderful that Nicole is such a great friend, or even best friend.
The way Chris looks at his neighbor while he his showing the videos. You can see the „why do you have to be so vigilant? Why do you have to have such a good security system? Why couldn’t you just keep this to yourself?“ written on his face. And the neighbor just shutting down every option he has is so gold
I knew Cindy was heavily opinionated towards Shannan but dam saying u think she’s lying about a serious illness and saying your own granddaughters allergy isn’t real just because you don’t like ur daughter in law is honestly psychotic behavior
It does happen. Shannan seemed to have some kind of need for her kids to be sick. However, it wasn’t Grandma Watts’ duty to test it. I might question some of Shannan’s odd behaviors, but I’d never question whether or not she loved her kids.
@@dwightrenfield2241 having an allergy isn’t “being sick” tho. And quite frankly if there was evidence to the contrary, it would have surfaced by now. Seeing as it hasn’t, there is no reason not to believe Shannan.
Shanann was my friend and I'm sick and tired of people demonizing her. She was an amazing woman. She was a career woman, a wife, a mother and a lipus patient. She did not deserve to be murdered. She worked for an MLM; not the mob. Her career choice should not even be a factor in this. Shanann and the children were murdered because Chris is a coward. He couldn't keep it in his pants. He didn't want to have to pay child support and lose the house and his lifestyle. He couldn't man up, get a divorce and do all the things divorced dads do.
That's the exact same conclusion that TrueCrimeLoser came to in his series of videos on this case. I think he, & you, are right. Even the thought of something like what he did is so vile & disgusting it is light-years beyond (or beneath) me. That he could do something so utterly monstrous for something so insipid says everything there is to say abt him as a man (which he is not.)
Stay out of comment sections. You’ll find both good and bad and the full range of opinions. You knew her - we didn’t. Please let that be enough for you to be at peace about your friend.
I am so sorry for your loss. 🦋🕊️ Having lupus is rough. She seemed like such a sweet person. Her and her babies did not deserve to have that monster hurt them. I couldn’t imagine what kinda 🧠🪱🪱🪱 would say anything that monster did was justified. She said exactly what it was like to be diagnosed with lupus. My doctor said “you’re taking this well”, I was like “is it that bad?” I didn’t even know what it was other that a painful rash I needed steroid shot for. When I looked it up it explained so much.
I agree with staying out of the comment sections. There are some sick people out here and don't have empathy. I'm very sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful person.
While Chris is certainly a murderous monster, he is also one of the stupidest criminals I've ever seen. This has to be the clumsiest, least thought out murder plot in the history of crime. Also, his mother comes off as a cold-hearted b***h in her actions and attitudes toward Shannan. It's not hard to see why her son became a sociopath.
Yeah, I'm not sure narcissist is an adequate characterization of him. He strikes me more as an utter moron incapable of understanding how actions lead to consequences. He killed his wife in a fit of rage, then got rid of the "witnesses" in a panic. And I don't think his lover was involved, despite her (apparent) terrible personality.
I think both of his parents are horrible, thought I remember something about the dad being real weird towards Shannan and ofc the mom is just a bitch to her for no real reason
I mean, when you consider why they're abhorrent in the first place, it becomes pretty easy to empathise with people who buy into them. Like, they almost exclusively target mothers - offering an opportunity to escape the rat race and provide a high standard of living to their children. Who wouldn't want to be their own boss and have more time with their kids? Most people who actually buy into MLMS don't even know that they're in one until they go bankrupt. I've had several friends buy into MLMS over the years and legitimately believe that they're running their own business (or at least that's what they said when asked about it).
@@meg0769You’re right. Nicole is so on-point, she's 100% responsible for closing the time gap Chris had to work with. She gave him NO wiggle room, it was "Shanann went in at 2am & never came out". Chris had no time to turn cameras off, pretend Shanann left later that night, NOTHING
He could turn the cameras before she arrived, so he is ether stupid, forgot or didn’t plan on doing this and was acting out of pure emotion/ rage and or hate. He was already feeling pushed to the corner and Shannan threatening him ( if true) made him snap. And for Cici , Bella and Niko I have no idea other then covering his own ass. Getting rid of witnesses to fit his shallow story and having nobody to contradict his account of what happened.
@@rafalIL29 i believe his original plan was to get to work on time for an alibi, then around 5pm get home & turn off the cameras, saying she ran out with the girls that evening. The problem was that Nicole arrived while he was at work (mid-plan), so he had to report her missing a full day before he had planned on it. If Nicole wasn't SO worried, Chris did have a plan. She changed the plan.
It makes you think, there must have been something off with Chris or he put out some bad vibes because Nicole was so certain something was wrong, she didn't even consider that Shannann might just be late to work or at home sick she KNEW something was not right. That's an amazing friend right there.
The best thing that can be said is that Chris Watts didn’t enjoy even a night alone with his mistress after the crime. He underestimated how quickly a truly caring person can sense when something isn’t right.
Absolutely, and that was something he never could have figured out even if he was smart enough to try to build it into his plans, because psychopaths don't feel true care - it's just not a concept they can understand. They can have long relationships that satisfy them, but they're purely transactional. Saying "be careful of your wife's friends, they'll just know it's not right" would seem like nonsense to his brain.
@@100th_monkeyIt reminds me of Joel Guy Jr. thinking he had plenty of time to clean up the house after murdering his parents, not realizing that his mother's coworkers would realize right away that something was wrong when she didn't show up for her retirement lunch. Did I hear correctly? Her friend Nicole waited 2 HOURS outside the watts house or Chris to come home from work? I love this cop, he rarely takes his camera off Watts. He obviously thinks Chris is acting weird.
Could Chris’s mother be anymore horrendous. Putting pine nuts in that baby’s ice cream after the mother told you she’s allergic. Like Shanann doesn’t know her own child.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 That’s NOT EVEN a tad bit close to what supposedly happened with the NutGate incident!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Good Lord learn the truth before you make a statement!! 🙄🤦♀️
I remember the film "127 Hours," and one of the simple themes was "let someone know where you are, or where you are intending to be." The guy's entire ordeal likely could have been avoided if he followed that simple rule. It's the reason why no matter where I am, I'll text at least one person "hey I'm here." Because you never know what could happen to you. Or even something simple like one of those "check ins" on various social media platforms. Chris very well might have gotten away with this if it wasn't for the one friend he seemingly didn't know about.
@@sorrowfulvixxx I meant more in terms of I don't think he expected Nicole to act as quickly as she did. The way I worded it was misleading, I'm sorry. 1. I think Cindy Watts is probably the most toxic narcissistic immature mother in law that I've ever seen. I love that Shannan protected her children and didn't bend to Cindy's mind games. 2. The fact that Chris didn't give the officer permission to just bust that front door open to find out if his wife and children were safe is a HUGE red flag. She is demented.
Agree….what the mom did with the nuts was literally the equivalent of handing a toddler a loaded gun, because the mom wanted to prove to someone that it wasn’t loaded to “score a point” in some petty drama. And the arrogance and stupidity that Chris’ mom was so sure she was right…she risked a toddler dying and her brain never chimed in “wait…but what if it turns out I am wrong and Shannan is correct?”
Not to mention the pussywhipped boomer father who just blew it off like "ehh. You're faking your child's *lethal* allergen. She wouldn't have died." I come from a pretty hermit family, but this is by far appalling. How do you let petty indifferences build up such a skewed view to the point the parents are like. "He wouldn't hurt a little animal." *killed his wife and kids* They're weird in general.
Wow his mom is PURE evil. The tree nut thing? Even if she was “making it up”, you are the grandmother NOT the mother, and you don’t get to have a say in her kids’ diets. That is TOTALLY overstepping. Chris could have saved his marriage by laying down the law with his mother, but he was way too much of a coward. Cowardly men are dangerous.
Dudes mother is a psychopath. Who tests out their grandchild’s allergy bc you think the mom was lying. What’s the worst that could happen , she could just go into anaphylactic shock ?
Froot Loops have tree nuts, (it has been listed on their warning label for years ) CC love fruit nuts and was given them all the time by Shanann and also the Thrive birthday cake bars which Cece loved and ate often had tree nuts. I’m sure Shanann must’ve known this, so it gives me doubt as to whether CC really had allergy to tree nuts.
I’m going to say this as respectfully as I can. As far as Chris and his parents go. That apple didn’t fall far from the tree and whoever could blame the victims needs serious help.
Like, even if you want to believe that Shanann was such a terrible, controlling person that she drove Chris to do this (🙄), what about the girls? What did they do? Even his original lie that Shanann killed the girls, and then he killed her out of rage... so you don't call 911 to see if they can be saved? You just dump their little bodies in oil?
This is one of, if not *THE* best piece of content on the Watts case that I've ever seen, and I've read/watched everything. The narrator's interjections are well timed and extremely insightful. Excellent job researching and writing, really well done!!
The fact that he stole her ring from her dead finger to place the blame on her is an awful detail. In her messages she was fighting hard for her marriage. She wouldn’t have taken it off willingly. He tried to sell the house, unenroll the kids, and start a life with someone else before she was even reported missing.

at 17:36 "we didn't attend [their wedding] because we couldn't get along" that means: Shannan was a strong woman who knew what she wanted for her wedding, and refused to let Cindy insert herself to derail the planning. I'm glad she didn't attend, she'd have just made it miserable.
Why should they suddenly like her now she’s dead? Who likes Hitler now he’s dead? If you hate them when they’re alive, it’s likely that’s not going to change when they are dead.
I will always be in awe of her friend for her gut reaction that was so on point. She completely dismantled his plans and ruined his window of opportunity to get rid of crucial evidence. We would all be SO lucky to have a friend like that.
Honestly I think this case changed the way I look at relationships forever. I no longer hold back from looking paranoid. If I’m worried for someone’s life I will ring ALL the alarm bells until I’m sure they are safe and well, no matter how stupid I look.
I do have a friend like this…and I try to be the same in return. We have coded words we use if we’re in trouble. If we don’t hear from each other every day…by the end of that day or first thing the next and we still can’t get ahold of each other, we start reaching out to other friends and family. We post on social media asking them to reach out and check if anyone has heard anything. Every woman needs someone who is willing to do this for another woman. It can be a sister, cousin, friend…we need to network with each other! I love men and can’t imagine life without them. However, we need to do this together. @@gurutruecrimeguru1405 oh I always thought that was the same friend we see in the footage. It seems like she had a good network of people looking after her. It's just tragic it didn't stop him.
The difference between that mother+son combo, excellent parentage and it shows in the kid, vs. the Chris+Cindy combo... certainly stands out in sharp contrast.
They had the audacity to tell Chris they forgive him right in front of Shannen's parents and brother too, totally disrespectful and lacking in empathy for her family 😠
The Watts are all a family of psychopaths, his mother being pure evil. She comes across as being happy that Chris killed Shannan and their kids, just because it got one over on her. It isn't surprising Chris is the way he is, given she could have killed her own granddaughter with that pine nut stunt and has never exhibited any remorse for it. In fact, she still claims that she was justified to do it. These people, as well as anyone who sits there and slags off this dead woman or defends Chris, should be on a fucking list. Throw Nicole the mistress on there, too, given she was pretty much stalking the wife of the man she would go in to have an affair with long before they even started communicating. Just a grouping of hateful, vindictive, sociopathic monsters.
i truly believe Nicole’s immediate response to her friend being late is the reason this case was solved so quickly and that Chris got justice for what he did. she is an incredible friend who clearly knows her best friend (better than her asshole husband does) and cares deeply about her. Nicole showed an incredible strength during this whole process and she deserves massive respect.
I 100% agree. I wish for her and shananns sake she could have saved her, but I’m so sure that vital evidence was preserved because of Nicole’s perseverance alone. I hope she is doing okay
nicole is genuinely an angel for caring about her friend so much, i hope she is living a wonderful life right now, and i hope she knows that she is the reason shannan got the justice she and the children deserved
if the world was perfectly just, we would also scrutinize the family’s of the killers. The parents are usually just as messed up as the killer if not more.
But her telling her entire life to social media for validation wasn't narcissism? This was toxic from the start. Two narcissistic people usually don't end well.
@@chopperdave3868there is a difference between putting parts of your life on the internet and thinking it’s okay if you murder your wife and children bc you believe you deserve better and are too smart to get caught. Imagine having just committed multiple murders, and while you're hiding the bodies, you get a call and realize that the police are ALREADY at your house, and they are not going away until they see your murder victims. This is basically Chris' worst case scenario other than 1. Having a police officer walk in on the murders, or 2. Getting pulled over with three bodies in the car. Fate was stranger than fiction that day, and I hope Chris hates that fact more and more as the years go on
Yea that always crossed my mind, he had no time to get rid of evidence, come up with a solid story, or even enjoy his mistress (wife free)....even if the cops left and said Shanann just took off to blow off steam, now her friends and family would hound until they saw Shanann and the kids. It was over for him so fast. And that’s a relief, because he deserves hell.
@houserhouse Oh he does hate it. He's said multiple times that "a man shouldn't have to spend the rest of his life in prison for one mistake." Yes he called it "one mistake."
@gurutruecrimeguru1405 that always left me speechless too. Like sir, you've made at least 4 mistakes in this scenario considering its a quadruple homicide.
He was already at work when Nicole went to the house. Its still so sick though. He killed his entire family earlier that morning; his kids were killed on site. Hearing him say one of his kids last words was “No daddy no”, is just so heartbreaking. He had no reason to murder his family. I know he wanted shannan out of his life so he killed her. Which is stupid. But at least theres a reason in his mind, no matter how dumb and evil it is. BUT I just don’t get why he also killed his kids? I just don’t get it.
If her phone was her lifeline, how could she run off without it? His mother is disgusting and was jealous of Shanann’s position in his life. She didn’t even show sympathy for the girls.
Same with the parents of Chris Coleman’, who committed a very similar crime. And the killers parents seem to show no grief for the murder of their grandchildren, like they forgot that part or it didn’t matter. They are only focused on defending their son, who they view as a great catch despite their sons being average at their best, and heinous at worst.
@@aromaladyellieagreed but i think it goes even deeper than that. we see this happen with pretty much every case of familicide. if the spouse isn’t perceived as the “perfect victim” who can do no wrong, they’re automatically vilified. it makes absolutely no sense but we see it all the time.
Agreed. It only proves why Chris was even capable of what he did, allowed or was a part of. It ALWAYS goes back to the parents. Which the damage done to a child is usually unintentional. I think Chris’s mom was jealous of Shanaan bcuz she was such a great mom & those kids were smart. His mom’s rant is she constantly put Chris down. I guarantee you Chris didn’t teach the song his daughter sang in the beginning of this video, Shanaan helped her to memorize it. I’ve not one time ever heard Shanaan in any of her post put down Chris. My guess it’s the mother who would constantly put Chris down & why he was closer to his dad. His mom is obviously not a good person to have no respect for the mother of her grandchildren. Nutgate is proof that the Chris’s mother had issue‘s & was disrespectful & would prove it even by putting her own grandchild in danger, obviously. I would NOT let that evil woman around my children either. Which is even more proof Shanaan wouldn’t be strangling her child when she could’ve just let the girls be around Chris’s mom again. The reason most people don’t like someone is bcuz they have what they want. Chris seems to of learned his lying & his utter disrespect for Shanaan & his & Shanaan’s family from his mother!! How dare his parents not attend their wedding for their own selfish reasons!! That’s terrible way to be & act from any parent. They should’ve been happy for Chris & attended the wedding for that reason & that reason alone. They showed total disrespect to their son by not attending his wedding!!! Shameful parents indeed!! They’ve no right to talk about any of them to anyone. They are evil, hateful, very selfish & utterly disrespectful people. PERIODT!!
Do people really say that? That's just mind-blowingly sad. I can't imagine thinking that 2 precious little babies and their mommy somehow invited their own murder.
It always chills me when the neighbour accidentally flips to National Geographic and the two images on the advert are of a foetus in an hourglass, and a skull emerging from oil. This entire case completely floors me everytime I revisit it
The fact that there are people defending this guy at all because they thought the wife was weird, when he also killed his kids just shows how far gone some people are.
True. No matter what people think of the wife, those little babies were perfect and innocent. The video of the little girl singing to her dad, who was the monster who would kill her, broke my heart.
Sadly, it's the world we live in today, but the devil will lose in the end. Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
thank you so much for including those clips of shannan telling her story. it feels like so often people glaze over the lives of the victims to these terrible crimes in favor of profiting on the story of their deaths. it's so refreshing to have seen her maintain some sense of agency over the life she lived that was taken far too soon. she and her babies do not deserve to be reduced to what that man did (and how evil of his parents to try and slander her character, even further)
The mothers in both cases are chilling. None of those two let their children to lead their own lives and take their own decisions. The mothers being friends would be a match made in hell for sure!!!! @@angelicahancock7939
They were both horrible people. Chris Watts is a monster, but Shanaan Watts was a full-blown narcissist with munchausen syndrom by proxy. What mother puts her children to bed at 6:30 with cough syrup so they would sleep, and never provides them a healthy meal? The girl's daycare providers reported that Bella and Cici were always hungry. Shanaan didn't give them breakfast, had Chris pack them junkfood for lunch, and then ordered Chris to feed them (as well as do everything else for them) a snack of chicken nuggets or some other frozen junk food as soon as they got home from daycare and then put them straight to bed, so that she never had to deal with them at all. If Shanaan was still alive, she should be in prison right next to Chris. She continually over-medicated those children, and didn't give them the time of day unless they were starring in her crappy videos for her own self promotion. People, including you, need to stop elevating this depraved woman to sainthood status just because she's dead. Instead, look at ALL of the facts of this family. Both of Bella's, Cici's, and Nico's were sick in the head. Those poor children never stood a chance....
Chris’s mom is awful. i honestly cannot imagine having to communicate with her, especially if she 100% believes you’re lying about something. Something life threatening, no less..
@@TheProdigy_916That beast killed his own wife and children because he had an affair and that other beast still had the gall to badmouth her knowing what her son did, they can repent for the rest of their lives for what they did
"She said she was always going to be the other person to him, which is what happens when you're the other person to someone" absolutely sent me. But in all seriousness, thank you all for the informative videos that always gives so much respect and correct attention to the victims. With so many True Crime RU-vidrs today, people use these stories to create their own fame and make a mockery out of the subject, and often the real victims of these stories are collateral damage.
I’m disgusted by the watts supporters who shit all over shanann and her memory. She was a pregnant mother who was MURDERED along with her babies. I can’t believe how messed up some people can be. She wasn’t perfect like none of us are. She admitted her faults and wanted to fight for her marriage and family. You can tell what a loving mother and hard worker she was. RIP Shanann 💔
I’d challenge you to consider if you are spending too much time in the wrong spaces. I have never heard anyone defend Chris. Granted, now that you’ve brought it to my attention, I guess it isn’t surprising. But I think, given how you have the adjective “watts supporters”, in your mind, this is some block of people with numbers in the tens of thousands and I think your brain is tricking you. See, the brain has this tendency to assume that what is familiar to you as an individual is what is normal for most people. When most people, even true crime people, aren’t aware that anyone supports Watts.
Was she actually controlling or was she just a pregnant, hormonal woman who is feeling insecure because her husband was growing more and more distant? She was probably under a ton of stress between being primary caregiver, working, being pregnant, managing all the finances, and having a chronic illness. She was literally the head of household, of course she's going to be "controlling" she's the one managing everything! Not to mention her husband had no backbone when it came to his own mother which is enough to ruin a marriage on it's own. I feel so sad that people bash this woman when she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.
That sweet little Angel calling this human filth “daddy” and trusting him to the end even when she knew it was trying to hurt them is the most heartbreaking aspect of all of this for me.
For thirteen years many crimes have been committed in my country . This crime still hurts me. I am a father of two daughters. I cry every time I watch Bella and Cece. I cannot imagine how this happened. Bella and Cece you are in a better world now. From Syria....❤❤
Wild that people participating in an affair think that a person who treats the pregnant mother of their kids this way won't turn around and do it to them when the feelings strikes.
Girls love validation or to feel they up another girl who had it all. This made herfeel beautiful deep down. Special and that she still had it. But if he got away with this murder here she would of been next later down the road when he got tired of her as well. A man that can not only just do that to his wife but his kids especially after watching a video of your kid calling you a hero is a pure sociopath. This generation of fmeales love men that treat them like sh*t its actually nomral now. They only complain after they are beat and then they percieve that man to be all the men even the ones they don't talk to and place them all in one category. Trust me that girl loved every bit of that affiar and got off and it made her feel alive again that she is worth something even though she know deep down she aint. I was amazed at how he disregard his kids lets just drop that the girl was his wife but his kids he dismissed as if they were fodder. He was insanely disconnected and that video was the only thing that got a pure rise out of him. i can be detached cold even but to do that to your kids. I don't think i could do that. As you said the mother was willing to test and see if her child would die or go to the hospital. This shown her to be a monster as well. Imagine i say guns kill ppl in an argument so please keep the clip out and you argue me down to say most ppl survive gunshots and then percieve to shoot me to see if you can prove that point that i may survive or not. This lets me know that she know of more behavior of her son but refused to share and im not mad at her for having hsi back but that ice cream thing sold it for me. Im not mad about how she thinks of his wife its whatever but she was trying to hurt the child to prove her delusion in her head. Being i met some ppl like her and know how monsterous they could be living with. i can also see how he is the way he is. But man his own kids. his wife was not perfect but she tried and i say do a lot better than the females ths age. She tried when she should of given up. Me as a man when i seen he was being distant i knew he was cheating and when he stopped czaring about the stress of her pregnacy. I felt it becoming dark then but man oh man i did not percieve that he had disconnected this much. I believe in theory he let his mom say things which pushed him over the edge and he ended up hating his family. You can't do all this with out hate. Most people wouldnt feel bad if they killed Hitler and he had to had mad at towrds his family to do this i mean very deep down spiteful hate that he justified. Justified hate allows ppl to do things without them feeling remorseful about it. I normally don't watch this kind of content its not my thing but i was trying to understand the killer but the kids last moments rubbed me the wrong way. I think i get him but not happy i do. Imagining the kids last moments as he is killing them and them confused turns my stomach the most. They had no idea what was happening and died in those moments. That bothers me to my core its made me not want to watch another video like this to be honest. I don't think i could not murder a man like this if i found out a kid of mine died by him and i don't have kids. Cops would question me and ill tell him he killed my kids so i killed him i feel no empathy for it either and would do it a million times in all lifetimes. I took a monster off the streets and if i have to be punished for it so be it.
Yeah! He'd be worse to her! Because, in time, and probably sooner rather than later, any guilt, or regret he'd have, about leaving his wife and kids for her, would translate to him being horrible to her. It would also probably translate to him later constantly acting paranoid about her "prior lack of respect for committed relationships." I'm just guessing though!
@@LavastormSWCrazy but most women who sleep with married men don't think of them as cheaters. Cheaters are men who would sleep with anyone, but not that man, that man has a family, a pregnant wife, and yet he chooses to sleep with her because she's better and way more beautiful. L In their heads, they think he's doing that for who she is, not who he is, so it's obvious he won't cheat on them. That's why most of the time when mistresses find out the man was sleeping with more than just them, they go insane. Even worse than the wife. Because that means they're not the special treasure they thought they were, but another one of his cheap sides.
This is literally the most heartbreaking case I've heard. If anyone is a narcissist here it's Chris's mother... Holy hell, giving a child nuts when she's allergic because she thinks she knows better... Unbelievable.
Reminds me of the reddit story where a grandmother killed her grandchild by putting coconut oil in their hair because the grandmother didn't believe that a black child could be allergic to coconut oil. The one thing I remember from that post was at the end when the OP said that she told the grandmother that she could come back into their lives when she brought their child back.
@Lovely2291 Damn that cuts deep. We can only imagine the pain those parents felt. That breaks my heart for them all because someone had too much pride and ego to not to be wrong. 😊
The story of Chris' mother trying to "test" Cece's allergy out of sheer spite towards Shannan trully explains a lot ... What sort of a psychopathic selfish idiot does that?! Apple didn't fall far from the tree in this case, it only became even more rotten.
I'd rather be right that they're faking it and never find out then find out I'm wrong. What was she going to do if her granddaughter got a reaction? That's so messed up.
Nicole is an absolute HERO, and a total nightmare for the murderer. It's funny how the murderer can't ask his wife's best friend to just leave the house and let him deal with the police himself, as he would look so guilty if he did so (I am sure her presence and action taking annoys him immensely!). So he has to put up with having her in the house, and her supplementing information on Shannan's concerning health situation, etc. Nicole behaves in an exemplary way!!! From raising the alarm very early on in the day and getting the police to the house even before the murderer could be bothered to come home, to being calm an informative towards the police throughout, updating Shannan's parents, etc. She must be screaming with worry inside, because everything is just looking bad and then even worse, but she remains calm, concerned and very helpful and an excellent witness. I quite often think of Nicole even all these years later. What a TRUE friend Nicole is to Shannan and her three children. I send her well wishes. And blessings to her loyal son who had to grow up quickly that day while he was supporting his mum during an absolute crisis.
Yeah, the JCS video mentioned this and it was all for nothing, because forensics recovered all the messages anyway. It's how they discovered his affair and why notably he was never asked about it during his interrogation, because they didn't need to. (And sure enough he lied about having an affair during the interrogation even though it was never brought up).
yeah idk why people think they can do that, the message goes through a 3rd party, the wireless carrier, it's not encrypted, it's stored for an amount of time for reasons like this to pop up they just need a warrant or some NSA loophole bullcrap to look at it
Chris showing Nicole the ring and her walking away like “yea ok buddy, that means nothing” and him desperately looking at her as if to say “please believe me that she ran off” is hilarious in a terrible situation. He thought that would be the golden ticket. And she wasn’t having any of it. He was desperate and Nicole just kept on it. He was probably sooooo pissed at that woman for ruining his plans. Thankful for her.
I see a lot of people downplay what she did or try to say she and her son tainted a crime scene, but that's all so ridiculous, Chris went in before anyone and tainted it himself. The one thing that really nailed Chris was he couldn't unlock Shanann's phone. If he had been able to do that he could have pretended he was her for days before any red flags went up. He even says it in the video, she changed her passcode, his timbre immediately changed when he said that as if it was something very significant, but only to his plan. Who knows what would have happened if it wasn't for Nickole.
@@j.n.4806 did you not watch the video? If a murderer of 4 women can be immortalized in a video saying "my daddy is a hero" then Shannan is beyond deserving of the title. Get fked
I'm around the same age as Chris was at the time of the killings. I'm unmarried, have no children and both of my parents are deceased. Chris Watts had so much in his life; a beautiful wife and children, a large, comfortable home, a good job, two living parents, great friends and everybody fit, healthy and happy. And yet it wasn't enough for him. He wanted more and in pursuing more he destroyed multiple lives, even his own!
You're describing a fairy tale life that simply did not exist in reality. The family were deeply in debt and the large , comfortable home, belonged to the bank and there was a good chance they would have to leave it. Shannen had a lot of health problems and his mother couldn't be trusted not to give nuts to a child with a nut allergy. Even in families, where the couple get along and that doesn't have significant financial problems, working and taking care of two small children and another one on the way can still be very stressful. So, all in all, they were not living the fun life you imagining.
No. What he says still stand and is true. House might belong to the bank but most people rent apartments anyway and never have a chance at even visiting a house like what they were living in. Shanan and the kids were still alive and happy and relatively healthy. He couldn't see what he had. And neither can you, it would seem. I mean to be fair it never matters if someone was killed or died, you should always view alive and dead people critical, their pros and cons, their mistakes and also consider the bad parts about them (the most start sugarcoating people once they died and victims while ignoring all their bad behaviors). From this video She was also no angel how people here again describe it. But the mother is the best example of the ignorant parents that think of "my own blood is most important " while being ignorant about any facts and stay in denial to keep their own sanity
If my daughter and husband disappeared without a trace, and a neighbor said they have camera footage is this direction, I would glue myself to that TV to see if I can see them or where they went. The fact that Chris can't even look at the TV is very telling.
This, this, this!!!! There's a very disturbing clip of her talking to CW when he was in jail. Cindy was talking to him about the memorial they had, and how the audio track kept switching and she thought it was CeCe. No no Cindy, that was Shannan ruining your little pity party one last time. “Not realizing how well loved she actually was” is such a way to sum up how this all blew up in Chris’s face. All he had to go off of was the crooked and clouded opinion of his mother and his own selfish needs. He never considered that behind Shannan and the two girls was a bounty of people who loved them and cared for them deeply. Chris was too dumb to realize this.
Shanann's final letter to Chris is heartbreaking. And in contrast to Shanann's grotesque haters who claim she's some kind awful narcissist the letter shows her empathy & pain. She's self reflective, admits fault, and desperately trying to understand her husband and work on their marriage.

Chris was so unprepared for the extent that people deeply loved his wife. It almost seems like he thought that other people stopped caring about her when he did. I always return to this case because I will never wrap my mind around his actions ever.
Same here. It haunts me to see the videos of Bella and Celeste. They loved him and clearly never got a bad vibe from him because they were ENAMORED with him. They idolized him. He was either the best actor on Earth, which judging by his interviews he was absolutely not, or he did genuinely love them. So why??? I just can't understand and it eats at me whenever I think about this case.
Selfish mindset does this. It's incredibly saddening to see people who respect and care for themselves more than others, especially because shanann was such a beautiful and likeable person.
