Commonly called a sun coma out my way this behaviour is typical of young magpies finding a patch of sun out of the early morning southerly chill. First time I saw this my first thought was that the poor thing had taken a 1080 bait. There's a regular programme of baiting for feral animals on Nth Stradbroke Island so ... a fair inference. Turns out they all do this on crisp mornings, never seen the adults do this though.
