Dude has more clout and longevity than half the artists he interviews.

That sonic youth interview looks literally like school ground bullying. Like when you're 14. I think it goes to show that hip hop rappers are only 'bad' when you disrespect them. I'm glad he continued after that and found home interviewing people that actually have hearts; of whom we dont see very often.

Respect to the hip hop community for embracing nardward. Hands down one of the best interviewers of all time.

Interesting fact: The drummer in Blur who treated Nardwuar badly has opened up a few times about this incident. He said it is one of the biggest regrets in his entire life. He also was on a lot of drugs at the time. He is sober now and he mentions that any time he has struggled with his sobriety he will open the Nardwuar interview he has saved on his phone and watch it. He is so disgusted with the way he treated such an "incredible person" and feels physically sick with himself when watching it.

The fact Nardwuar turned out a bigger name than Sonic Youth is cathartic.

I am 'Pete' the original bassist for the Evaporators. Well done documentary but some details are wrong. The Evaporators was started when Nardwuar was still in highschool . Nardwuar was a great promoter and got our band into so many gigs all over Vancouver. Lots of fun.

nardwuar found a home in hiphop culture, it took a long painful road but he found it, man gets treated better by rappers than he did by rockers, bros such a genuine dude

Most of the people that have treated him badly weren't "rockers." Most were crazy punk bands, who's scene he's into himself. Most rock artist are extremely kind and appreciate him. Not all rap artist are kind to him either. A lot of WuTang clan were pretty rude to him as well.

Nardwaur is an example of a person who had a vision, made it a dream, and then a career. Very inspirational, go against the grain!

my aunt used to work as receptionist in the same building Nardwuar did. when he was asked if i could meet him, he invited us all out to his interview with Sir Mix-A-Lot. we ate dinner with the two of them and Sir Mix-A-Lot's entire tour bus. it was surreal but Nardwuar was so courteous and grounded through every moment. people shouldn't discount how intelligent he is.

It's disgusting how poorly people are capable of treating misunderstood individuals. Divergent brains are physically built different than atypical brains. This dude found what he loved to do, and didn't allow anyone to tear him down. Researching to learn and ask intelligent questions + passion for his craft = a brain and heart built for this. That's Divine energy, when the brain and heart are aligned, words and actions working together in union with integrity. 👑

The way the hiphop community embraced Nardwuar just shows how they all just want people to trully listen and see the human behind the character something that Nardwuar also wants for himself and it was the hiphop community who also gave that aproach to Nardwuar The way Nardwuar and Lil Uzi Vert hugged was so wholesome, just shows that if we looked at eachother without egos or pride we would find that we all want the same respect and appreciation

nardwar is truly a gift. he is so raw and always giving out gifts to artists. you can always count on this man do to his research and just always go above and beyond. you can tell he is so passionate, kind and patient. all of these traits just make him so likable, just an open hearted guy doing what he loves. he deserves respect 100% from everyone.

He's the closest thing to a magicial elf we have: he knows everything about you (that you even forgot), presents you with wonderful gifts free of charge, and all he asks for in return is for you to say "doot doot". If it were the 15th century, people would assume he was some kind of wizard.

I remember his interviews from back in the 90s/2000s on Much Music. Nardwuar was always the best. Each interview was a combination of performance art and social experiment. It's disgusting how some of these artists treated him.

His younger videos feel very much like a young man with ASD with a special interest in music, and so many of these bands were just straight up bullies to him. I’m so glad he kept at it because we all adore him now! Well, most of us.

Well done mini doc! Fascinating to see the world catch up to Nard's qualities. He really shines a light on the nexus of machoism, rock star attitudes and "coolness". Absolutely LOVE that over time, Nard's niceness has triumphed over wankers like Rollins and Lunch, and the way African American culture heroes have embraced him. Give you hope for the world.

It’s a testament to the rap community that they would embrace such a genuine soul 💪🏼🔥

I will tell you a story about what a great guy Nardwuar is: I’m a full-time musician in Canada and to make a living I have to play with multiple bands. One of the band’s I had the good fortune to play for was the hard rock band Helix. Now, I did this from 1997-2004. There was a music message board I used to frequent (I won’t say which cause A: it blows now and B: I want to respect Nardwuar’s privacy.) Anyway, I took a lot of heat on this board, as I was in the band after it’s 80’s glory days. That, and the fact that the nature of this board was sarcasm, negativity and mocking. Now, I admit it could be fun, posting on there. But some times, people would dog pile on others. And get really, really mean. Well, on one occasion this happened to me (posting drunk and high didn’t help me). And I got taken apart...at times I’m sure I deserved it. But, one time, someone found out personal information about me, posted and shared it-and some of the posters became really hurtful. Now, in perspective, it wasn’t a huge deal-I didn’t lose any sleep over it. But it was cruel. Well, Nardwuar private messaged me and proved to me it was him...and he was a sweetheart. He really took the time to tell me not to believe what they were saying and that I should be proud of my Helix past etc. He also defended me in the board discussions. Point is, he didn’t have to do this. He was hiding under the cover of anonymity, and a username, and just could have let it slide. But he didn’t. I’ve never told this story as I’ve respected his privacy but at this point it’s almost 20 years gone past-and frankly, that BOARD is now past it’s sell by date. Nardwuar once mailed me a fanzine in the early 90s because I called his CITR radio show to ask about Jello Biafra being in an accident. He didn't know me but still took the time to find the answer and get it to me. He is one of the most humble and generous people and I'm still a huge fan. Keep on rocking in the free world, Nardwuar.

I’m a musician from Singapore, and not particularly famous on any worldwide scale, practically invisible in most contexts. 4 years ago Nardwuar followed me on Instagram, liked a few posts, and also replied a story of me freaking out over him following me 😂 I had never felt more seen or recognised. I still don’t know why he did, what he possibly had to gain from it, the only thing I could conclude is that this guy must be endlessly curious if he’s looking all the way in my corner of the world for artists and musicians. He made me laugh more than most other interviews I’ve seen. He has always left me amazed and my jaw on the floor, so many memes and clips come from him and remains in my mind rent free

I'm not a doctor and I don't know if he's diagnosed with anything but he seems neurodivergent and like he could possibly be on the autism spectrum. So many people on the spectrum are super intelligent, unique and creative. I work in education and have seen this in a lot of young people. I'm neurodivergent myself and think that our differences and unique talents are what makes us amazing. It broke my heart seeing grown people bully him. What terrible people. I'm from Vancouver and still live there. He's an icon. ❤

Nardwuar is the litmus test of human decency for celebrities

The Sonic Youth interview is a perfectly good example of people with power/acclaim punching down on one with less power/acclaim at the time, in spite of their complete inability to recognize talent and what gains notoriety in the first place. Not a surprise Sonic Youth's sound died by the time of the Nard interview yet Nardwuar is able to book an interview with the world's foremost pop star tomorrow and absolutely floor them.

Though I've only seen snippets and never full on interviews with Nardwuar, I wasn't exactly sure of his persona and character, I'm glad to have seen this and understand him a little bit more. Thanks for this video!

I'm a girl with ASD, and the way he was bullied by that band made me cry. It's the trademark for how autistics get bullied. They figure out something is "wrong" with you quickly, and decide to make your life hell because of it. I got a bit triggered by it, wow, it brought back lots of memories of me as a kid.

I met this guy at a a small clairo concert in Vancouver I think 2018 or 2019, he’s such a kind guy and even told us to follow him up to a better viewpoint so we could enjoy the concert. I honestly don’t understand how anybody could be mean to a guy clearly passionate about his work and so appreciative of the artist.

I love that it was mainly the hip hop community who welcomed him and actually realized how great he is as an interviewer. Although I do think it’s really sad that he was mainly inspired by punk rock and he was treated so poorly by some of tho ppl who I’m sure were his hero’s before that.

I actually met the man when I was volunteering at a student journalism conference in Vancouver and he genuinely is the exact same way in person as he was in videos. He was incredibly generous with his time, eager to share with us his experiences and so full of life. Also I managed to get a picture with him!

Nardwuar talking to Gorbechov really put it in perspective for me how long he's been doing this. He's an oddball, but he's extremely thorough with his research going into interviews.
