You may not like ICP, but you've gotta give them credit where it's due; they know their audience really well, they gave Nardwuar the time of day and didn't act serious and standoffish (like Slipknot and some other artists), and they seem like a couple of good sports about their music, lifestyle, and fanbase.
Right, they don't harm anyone and they created their own empire which they completely own. Gotta respect them for that at least, they fucking own their music and every bit of it. Not many musicians can say that these days. They did it right, and are an example for other musicians whether you like their music or not.
Met these guys once in Pittsburgh and I didn’t even try to bother them, but I was nice to them and even held the door for them, and their roadies were assholes.
What's up ICP! Thanks for the shot out but I never stepped foot on a college campus. Kaos went to college but never ceased rapping until 1995. Kaos and I didn't make another album because the label wanted to release Dice, which btw I produced his debut album "The 40 Made Me Do It." I actually continued producing hip hop until 2007 under the name Lord Maji. In 2003 I founded a Christian Hip Hop label. Now I am the founder and CEO my non profit youth serving organization The Yunion. Take care fellas. - Mystro
If people get past the stigma of hating ICP they can notice by this interview of how educated and sincerely fans of hip-hop they are. Some other rap artist nardwuar have interviewed have come off more ignorant and plain boring than ICP.
you just gotta find the right songs man, theyve done 20 years of music and alot of its changed. but they have remade tons of hip hop classics, alot of nwa remixes. i did concerts with their label for about 7 years and they use to always tour with old school artists. they always brung old hip hop people back into the limelight. nobody else does that
Josh Dickey i like mostly their old stuff, so i really liked the first dark lotus marz and abk version i got to do alot of shows with them as solo artists. i didnt like the other lotus albums but im a older dude that likes older music. they have so much music out their though i personally think they have at least one type of cd for everyone to like, people just gotta give it a chance and find it.
+hippa2dahoppa2 yep. I'm 35 😢 and I only like the first dark lotus and I had to quit when bizarre bizarre came out. but I still live everything b4 then
That's absolutely not true, they know the music around the place they grew up "Detroit" but for you to make a statement like they know more about music than 90% of rappers is extremely presumptuous.
ICP are fucking hilarious, listening to some of their songs legitimately make me picture what’s happening and I can’t help but laugh, “To catch a predator” is one of my favorites.
fuckin legends right here. how many artists in hip hop can say they've independently released 20+ studio records & built one of the most loyal fanbases on earth?
I thought ICP was a bunch of weirdo clown psychopaths.... I am coming out of this super super amazed and impressed. They know exactly what they’re selling and who they’re selling to and that’s pretty damn awesome. This and the NERD interview has become my two favorite Nardwuar interviews.
@Von_Nightmare_ Luciferian cr tvs have good color reproduction. Also, I grew up with VHS and I dig the whole retro look movies have on them. I think it would be neat to start a collection of vhss
Things I knew would happen upon seeing this upload- 1.ICP would freak over classic records 2.ICP would show how passionate they are about hip hop 3.They wouldnt be all serious like a lot of bands Narwuar has interviewed 4.Despite the fact ICP are super cool, super chill people, dudes in comments will still talk shit just because they dont like their music.
Sugarwatermixlegit absolutely right. These are two down ass dudes that get a lot of hate. Say what you will about their music but they have worked their asses off.
it's good to see these guy get treated seriously by a respected music dude. these dudes have busted their ass for almost 25+ years and keep their own operation afloat and people paid and fed and fans happy. good on you icp and good on you nardwuar for giving these guys a good set of gifts.
i love how people are always asking him where he got the records, like they completely forget that he works for a radio station that has been around for many decades. if you are ever looking for a hard to find record, just to check it out, get in contact with the oldest local radio station that might have played something similar, you might not be able to rent it but you can probably check it out. they frequently have huge collections of demo disks from artists that never made it mainstream, along with unreleased shit just to name two broad categories that old radio stations frequently although not always have. if a radio station is over 30 years old it likely has a record vault.

Violent J is mistaken about the Nardwuar interview with the ICP and the gifts Nardwuar gave them. Nardwuar uses some items in interviews as items for conversation, and are not gifts for the people he interviews. He always mentions which items that are gifts. I've been present at some interviews that he has done, and sometimes the artist forgets to take the gifts with them after the interview is over. (Sometimes things are crazy backstage or the bands need to leave to do a show). Nardwuar got the cards and the Sir Mix-A-Lot key chain from me to give them. It was clear in the interview that those were the only items that were gifts. He has never taken anything back that he has given as a gift in all the years I have known him, and I have known him for 25 years.
I used to listen to their stuff in middle school. so hysterical and vulgar but I loved it back then lol. Anyway, despite the crazy stuff they say in their music, they are quiet knowledgable. Pretty cool lol.
Like everyone else, I love to hate ICP's music. Nardwuar yet again shows that these guys are much like other artists, and their music doesn't exactly define their character. They're obviously businessmen that love hip hop, and I have to respect that hustle. Most importantly, when given opportunity to bash people, they took the high road.
"It's only for those who want it." Absolutely amazing quote. 404 juggalo since 1994 I rep them hard but I don't push it in people's faces cuz I fully understand everything they do is just for me and the family. Whoop. Whoop.
I definitely appreciate the love icp is getting nowadays, there's still a lot of stereotyping and hate going on, but its nice to see people opening their eyes to some of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Do yourselves a favor and go to a gathering one time, shit go to a hallowicked, Halloween in Detroit every year. Much love to y'all 😎🤘
Spanish 2.0 hell yeah they gave basically the little speech I give to try to get people to give mix a lot a chance. Never knew I had so much in common with ICP
Shaun Pearson "i dont have a girlfriend, i just know a girl that would get really mad if she heard me say that." mitch was the best, actually watching him right now
I like to think of myself as a juggalo, not because i listen to their music but because they seem like cool guys who treat people right who deserve it.. plus i met a lot of icp fans and they have all been cool as hell and genuinely good people.. also props to nardwuar for not pressing the kid rock situation.
@@valentinarmenta4982 he performed a verse on their debut record “Carnival of Carnage” and later went on to form the band Twisted Brown Trucker. Shaggy wasn’t a fan, and on his 94 song “Fuck off” said; "I won't mix no rap with rock-n-roll / like somebody else I know" This started a spate of tit for tat disses that eventually petered out into nothingness. In fact, Rock’s drummer Stefanie Eulinberg later appeared on Twiztid’s Heartbroken and Homicidal and Boondox’s Liquor, Lies and Legacy.
ICP are hometown heroes and what really impresses me about them is that they are a true rags to riches story. They started out in a dirty basement in a detroit ghetto then become extremely successful self made millionaires. No help from the music or other related industries…they worked their ass off and built it all on their own backs. Two of the hardest working people I’ve ever seen. True masters of business and entrepreneurship. And these guys KNOW their hip hop and rap history, more so than 99% of others. They’re super nice guys in person too and down to earth. Only thing missing in this interview is Nard getting face paint 😂
18:40 - 19:16 this is the most genuine shit i've heard in a loooong long time and that's EXACTLY why people should care about ICP. Like them or not they're just in looove with their thing and they're truly passionate about Music. All happy and proud they respect themselves and they respect you.."the listener"..not the f@cking paper. Fuck the radio .!.
It's not icp that I don't like. Its the scumbag meth head fuckin piss smelling hoarding did I mention scumbag? Fan base. That I don't like, and give me some bullshit "tthey aren't all like that" the fuck they aren't.
@@bright7301 I'd love to prove you wrong lol! 40 yr old juggalo here, been down with the clown for the past 22 years, sure I'm not the "perfect roll model of society" lol, but I hold down a well paying job, keep my bills up to date, take care of my shit! I dig that alot of the younger folk fuck up the image, but I'd love to prove your preconceptions of juggalo culture wrong! Hmu! Fo real, much clown love ❤
@@bright7301 I'm a juggalo and I'm a clean person, recovering drug addict that not only has a full time job but I've been promoted. I'm respectful, intelligent, well spoken, well mannered, and I still have a few mental issues that I have to work past everyday. We're not all like that and the fact you think that just goes to show you don't get to know any of us. May your life be fortuitous my normie friend.
Violent J: "Man when you're high... not that I get high." he says while riding the blimp super hard 🤣 I love these guys so much... they feel like old friends I never see
So many people try to hate on ICP but they are legit a part of hip hop history and have influenced the genre in many ways. I'm 29 now and started listening to them when I was 13 and they were around 15 years before that. You can't knock their hustle and you can't knock their commitment to the fans. There will be a small bit of Juggalo in me until the day I die. Props Nardwuar for this interview
I find it as a slap in the face that just with the first gift they’re some of the most grateful people I’ve seen interviewed so shiii don’t judge a book by its cover
@Ethan Rhodes I read that comment like 4 times, and was trying to figure out WTF he meant. I think you're right, and he has no idea of the connotation of that colloquialism.
PrimoZero always judge books by their cover. There’s a reason for the cover. Also just because you don’t like the cover doesn’t mean you still can’t crack the book and be surprised.
No, I think Angry Black backed down. He was a slim dorky looking dude. My favorite memories though were the feuds they had with Kelly Osbourne and with the reviewer from that magazine.
+treetoptop actually the dud that came down isn't the dude they were talking to on yhe phone. the one that called and said he wanted to beat their ass never came down. the dude that came was just a random dude that was listening to the radio. And to be honest they both kinda back down. it's funny the same dude called up Howard Stern to bash them again in their new st interview with him. Now that's holdin a grudge
You hate ICP, we know, we know. They're a pretty big target for bashing, but they're savvy business men, and they do love old school rap. Honestly, they're really nice guys, funny, and great to their fans. They grew up with nothing, and made themselves into multimillionaires.
I don't listen to the music anymore. it's been like 8 years since I actively followed their music. I still follow Twiztid. but ICP gives the best interviews they're so interesting to listen to. they're such down to earth funny guys.
I understand these guys not being most people's cup of tea, but the almost universal disdain for them and their fans by mainstream media is kinda ridiculous. As far as big successful groups go these guys' music is forced down your throat the LEAST. You have to seek their music out to hear it. I think in some ways it's classism. Upper/Middle class whites denigrating lower class whites for their taste. They wouldn't dare disparage a black rap fan-base to the same degree for fear of being labeled racist, but the white "juggalo" fan-base is a safe target they can take out all their disdain for lower-class culture on.
Matthew Yniguez There's no shortage of rappers of questionable talent with stupid, violent, ignorant lyrics. They are not nearly as scorned by the critics. There have also been countless rock bands over the years who wear costumes and makeup as part of their act.
I agree with you. Until Miracles, I really didn't know much about ICP, but man was it easy to bash them and make fun of them. Really though, a complete trust and faith in science to capture the human experience falls short, and while I may not agree that scientists are always motherfuckers lyin', and gettin' me pissed, they do touch on some pretty real points. It took some humility to recognize that. I think it's great seeing ICP with Nardwuar, and I hope this helps other people be more understanding of them.
There are plenty of mainstream rappers these days who are worse rappers than these 2. Have you heard Chief Keef? Young Thug? Lil B? So many rappers these days don't even RHYME, let alone make sense.
I've had a couple songs of theirs saved on Spotify, awhile ago I was like fuck it and started listening to all their albums in order and it's pretty cool to see how they've evolved over the years, ive really liked only 12 songs out of the 32 albums I've listened too but still as I'm still going through the albums I can at the very least say I understand the appeal, these guys are genuinely cool people and honestly if a friend invited me to a concert I would probably go
Violent J sounds like Randy Savage when he's excited. Also this is the second Nardwuar interview I can remember that mentions Abdulla the Butcher's restaurant. That's pretty specific.
I'm super satisfied about this interview, as a fan of ICP and Nardwuar i've been waiting to see this video and to be honest i'm glad someone asked for this interview because these two have been big hip hop artists in their game so i'm happy Insane Clown Posse gets their chance for an interview by the Human Serviette himself, Woop Woop, MMFWCL
This is by far the best interview I've ever seen these boys in. You did such a great job at getting them to nerd out and talk about what they're into. The fucking coolest video for me.
I just want to thank all the people in the comments who are not fans, but showed love and understanding to the group, and to us fans. There's not enough people like you in the world today! Much love to all of you!
I've never actually heard ICP''s music before because I assumed it was terrible. The interview has inspired the ICP rabbit hole I'm about to navigate, wish me luck and hopefully I make it back no worse than when I started.
Man being from Metro Detroit I remember ICP’s 1st albums Dog Beats, Carnival of Carnage, and Ring, Beverly Kills, and the Ring Master. It’s crazy that they are still doing their thing because this was around 1993 1994 but like he says were not pushing it on people so good for them hope they keep having success.
Look at their deep knowledge of Detroit compared to Big Sean. Key example is the different reactions to the Mystro album. ICP drops a story about them, Big Sean goes “oh uuuhhh look at they clothes...yeah I would rock that. Haha cray cray.”
That end pose by Shaggy the most wholesome thing ever. ICP are legends bro my favorite track's ever! Chicken Huntin' Hokus Pokus Bowling Balls Another Love Song Homies
+A Bomplicated Man Do you listen to tap music? Is that Art? I'm not even a fan of ICP but I do recognize them as a classic hip hop group that's been putting out shit for over 20 years.
man I'm binging all Nardwuar interviews, is crazy how most of them don't feel like an interview but rather like friends talking, most of the artist get so excited and happy during this, is amazing. This guys were great, they were having so much fun with his questions and gifts.
Their personality is the only reason why I recently decided to listen to their music including Tech N9ne and Hopsin. Turns out that the lyrics are clearly pronounced, vicious, sad, angry and mostly remain dark and there’s even gallows humor. I really like the music.
I'm not into ICP'S music at all. They do have some dope beat on a lot of their songs but they're terrible rappers. however, I've ALWAYS admired their hustle and the fact they are self made. No record deal and they are STILL doing big things and are super successful. Love the hustle.
