RU-vid wasn't huge back then tbh and wasn't really used as a news outlet for a long time. The older generation(s) tends to be much more reserved. Internet, mostly social media, has broken that barrier for a lot of people. Plus he doesn't exactly give off a 'professional' appearance at first. It's more of a satirical approach in all reality. He shows he is incredibly well informed while the interviewee tends to have a good time. Similar to a magic trick. Even nowadays a freelance no name wouldn't get the time of day from most people.
