loved this interview! im so glad the hate is dying down, i genuinely like some of their older tracks. they just seem like good dudes i loved all the classic canadian rock talk
every story i've heard from my friends in the music business who have worked with or run into nickelback over the years confirms what this interview confirms, Nickelback are very nice, smart, funny, and down to earth people.
The fact that nardwuar remembers everything from each conversation perfectly like 5 years later is just wild to me, I wish I could have that kind of memory for motivational quotes
So many wholesome stories out of these guys! That call to Mike was also a great addition (the 'breaking eggs' bit made me laugh so much), awesome interview!
All of Nardwuar's interviews are researched to this depth, dude is a true Journalist. If you haven't watched any of his other interviews I'd highly recommend it, there's an amazing back catalogue.
I’ve seen these guys live 10 times and they kill it every time 🔥 I grew up just like them in a rural Canadian town playing in cover bands, even a few of their songs. So this was great to see, awesome interview
Saw these guys about 10 years ago in concert, went to see daughtry, very glad these guys were headlining. Super entertaining show. Chad can play the guitar!
Not my go-to band but they're great at what they do, and much respect to anyone who gives Nardwuar the respect he deserves. This was very Canadian - can we get a long-form roundtable interview with say, Chad, Alanis, Celine and Alex Lifeson? I wish you had gotten to interview Gordon Lightfoot.
I would recommend watching the whole interview. Chad even calls his brother and puts him on speaker, and it's just an awesome wholesome interview in total
Shoutout to poison City Records, on Ryans Shirt. Based in Melbourne Australia and have put out some great albums. One of the driving forces keeping Alt/Punk music alive in Melbourne.
Nardwuar is so F-ing sick! He literally makes anyone he’s interviewing open up cause he brings them down memory lane. They seemed to just be happy talking about stuff they never talk about……lol….apparently not even to each other. Amazing. Thank you.
Nickelback isn’t a bad band imo, I watched a video recently where a guy did a study on why they were so hated & it basically stems from the radio playing their songs back to back (these guys made some great songs but were overplayed) which annoyed everyone & someone on the internet started a trend that “hating nickelback is cool” & whoever trashed them is part of the “meme”. People love being a part of the mob & are afraid of being left out.
They were overplayed but from what I remember, it was songs like SEX and Animals that were just a little too on the nose and cemented them as a kind of pop rock band, who, with songs like Rockstar, were trying too hard to be actual rock stars. They probably wouldn’t have had deeper album cuts get popular as singles if it wasn’t for their success more generally, but that’s what I remember being the thing that pushed them from band that makes decent ballads/jams to the meme choosing them as the poster child of the dated-sounded 00s rock era.
Man, I kind of want more bands from this Era like Seether, Saliva...90's, early 2000's grunge and alternative for Nardwuar to interview. Also surprised no current country artists are available for him to interview....I love deep diving into all these artists with him.
Amazing interview as always, loved that they had the opportunity to be interviewed by the legend himself! :D (Nardwaur, Please Sign My Evaporators Record!!)
I love that they all have some connection to nardwuar just by being canadian lol the rubber room in vancouver connection between chads brother and nardwuar is hilarious
Thank you thank you thank you. keep on rocking and stuff. No doubt that this is gonna get some heat, but please keep acknowledging Canadian bands. How about Joe Evil from Grim Skunk? Or Damien Robitaille? Or so many more...
Silverside up is still one of my favourite all time albums… it’s an unpopular opinion, but also one worth considering if you go back and listen to those tastey riffs
This is hands-down the best Nickelback interview I've ever seen. I've been an obsessive fan for years, consuming and remembering every bit of information on them I could find, but I didn't know half of the details they talk about from their early days. How Nardwuar knew any of these things is incredible.
