My favorite edge lord is Marcel from nights of evening star. It’s on RU-vid, definitely the best way to play a edgy character.

@@notchomomma239 Only because no one knows how to play the paladin correctly, not even back in the day when they had more restrictions. That is why they made a handbook to explain not just the class, but the alignment back when lawful good was usually the only choice one had (though there was some exceptions). Such a book could really help these days. Even to this day, most have little idea what the alignments mean, nor how they work. An example is the chaotic neutral murderhobo, which is not even possible.

@@ernestkhalimov9560 A mix of that and... tbf now that I think of it I don't recall if it was an edgelord story from this channel or CritCrab, but the character wouldn't respond with anything other than mute stares to the point where it became a running joke.

Yeah, I don't exactly enjoy playing edgelords myself. I'm more for making something akin to weirdos. The closest I have to an edgelord was a changeling Necromancer who's afraid of fire.

@@vasudeanguy8523 I think the only 'Edgelord' type I played/still playing is a Dhampir Paladin (basically a Blade lite), but least he talks with people, the party, has shown to be caring to kids, and is adverse to drinking blood despite needing it at times.

edgelord characters can be really fun, if done correctly. most of them are spin on the "tragic backstory, lone gunslinger" western archetype that's very typical of old western movies. as long as you keep in mind where the trope comes from, a lot of pretty unique takes can be done on it. like, for example, astoshan is 100% an edgelord archetype, but with several very fun twists.

I drew Knight 5 times, Fool, Jester 2 times, Idiot, Flames twice, Eurothyl 2 times (Medusa card), and Key twice, and finally, The Fates Good thing he was an NPC created by the Knight card! He was drawing to try and bring Marbles (The Green Dragonborn Barbarian) who drew the card

Yeah! The two ways I've played a "edgelord" has always been a *be like skeletor* lich who talks just like skeletor and fumbles rolls all while maintaining he is completely serious. The second was to behave like a complete idiot. I would speak in gravelly tones the whole time while saying how beautiful the weather is, cowering beneath my black mantle abd being absolutely clumsy. Think of Emporer Palpatine but duct tape a troll face to his head instead.

Add funny elements to edgelord. Liches make skeleton minions that complain constantly about being overworked and wanting to file work place abuse forms. Assassins can get high on the poisons they make. Black knights can look menacing but make them big friendly dummies. They look scary, but sound and act hilarious

No, they were right. The plan was only to "pretend" to try to kill the queen. The other player (dont care the edgelordynes) just keept trying to kill the queen for real. Twice. And when they asked "Why?", she just respond " Because I want too. It makes me feel good". Thats just plain stupid.

Anything can be an edgelord class if you want it hard enough. The "That Guy" my group couldn't seem to get rid of for basically forever once was playing a supposedly friendly "bookworm historian" Warlord (a 4e healer class) Genasi, who half the time was a confused ditz about this not-water world she'd ended up in, and the rest of the time was starting fights with every town guard and militia, and anything else that *wasn't* supposed to be a combat encounter. I'm honestly amazed that our regular DM didn't just say "screw it" and stop putting guards and such in towns so the dude couldn't start a fight, seeing as he did it with *every* PC he played. That said, a shadow magic-using Sorcerer who swans around in bright, fancy robes and carries on polite conversations with the dead that he raises would be *brilliant,* and I think you should go for it. Just as anything *can* be an edgelord class, it's the player's choice to *not* be the edgelord. If you don't want your PC to be dark and dreary just because they use dark magic, then I'd say you're well on your way. You've also now given me an idea for a necromancer who walks around looking like the walking incarnation of Dia de los Muertes. All the skulls they wear are colorful and painted like the sugar skulls, etc. Thanks!

@@Mokiefraggle Thank you! I'm still new to DnD and heard so much about edgelords that I was just a bit worried how would it be perceived. And I'm glad I could help with that idea. It sounds awesome.

@@TheMara246 Yeah, edgelord's more about how you play the character than about the class or race of the character. I've played with a dude who could make an edgelord out of anything (the one who even made his healer go psycho murder machine at the drop of a hat), and people who could make the supposedly edgiest things (Drow assassins, Tiefling anything) into rainbows and puppy dogs. As long as you don't play that PC that always sits alone in the darkest corner of the inn, hood up, clad in robes/armor blacker than the blackest black times infinity, who was programmed with the most tragic backstory in the game, and who doesn't speak to the other PCs except in monosyllables and grunts, who tries to kill all the things, I imagine you're probably good on avoiding any signs of edge. And any one of those things by itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when you throw them all in the pot, often along with the choice of some "dark" race like Tiefling, Drow, or Shadar-Kai, and make them an assassin or something, then you're definitely edgelording it.

Nah. Both my shadow sorcerers are bubbly and positive people even though one of them was raised by a vampire lord. Only edgy when they actually needed to be and they never enjoyed it.
