Have travelled, on this Railway. The only train connect India and Nepal. It is between Jaynagar in India and Janakpur in Nepal. This was started by than British government. This has been lifeline for peoples of that region. Further this steam engine get replaced by diesel locomotives in 90s. Current status is entire route get converted to broad gauge with modern rolling stock with the help from Indian government.
Lucky you, to have travelled this line. It's sad to see the demise of this beautiful old steam system but great news that there is now a working wide gauge rail system to replace it from Jaynagar all the way to Kurtha. Maybe next year when I plan return to Nepal I will travel by rail from the border up to Kurtha. There are further plans to extend this track from far East to far West Nepal with a branch line up to Kathmandu - and then another line from KTM to Tibet/China. This will be so good to help the current overcrowded and often jammed road transport system in Nepal. But I may be an old man before all that is finished, as I'm already over 70. 🙂 You may be interested in this beautiful, but sad video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mnlN0_IQvRA.html 🙏
@@swetasah8475 ji probably This video was filmed in 1991:or 92 just before the steam locomotives were replaced with Diesel locomotives from India. This video is taken from Janakpur section of Nepal.
I remembered that moment like that, 50 years ago, when I was a boy lived in Sukabumi, wlWest Java, Indonesia. I watched and played around the train station beside a" table" for rotary turn back the locomotive. What a beautiful memorable moment.
Thanks very much for your comments. The West Java scene was always fascinating and I loved the vintage electrics at Bogor, as well as the steam action at Bandung. It's a shame that not too many railfans visited the lines west of Jakarta.
Excellent. Now I remember my childhood days narrow gauge steam engine operated BDR Railway ( Bankura district, West Bengal, India), which is now modernized into broadgauge and electrified railway -- but lost its charm.
Lovely. A peaceful little railway with a well-used locomotive getting the job done in beautiful surroundings, without fuss or fanfare. Truly delightful. I wish I'd been there too.
India has donated two Diesel engine trains to Nepal . Also, a new rail track has already been laid by India . The train in video used to run a few years earlier. This train is not being operated these days.
So glad you enjoyed this. There is still a rail connection between Jaynagar and Janakpur, but it is now a broad-gauge connection, thanks to a very welcome initiative by India. You will find many excellent videos of the line as it now is on RU-vid. A few months after my visit in 1993, second-hand 2'6" diesels were made available by India to replace the ageing steam fleet and the line ran in this mode for a number of years before closure and commencement of the broad-gauge upgrade. Again, if you will find videos on RU-vid of this interim period of operation.
And also request the Nepali government (perhaps with help from Indian government) to restore the old engines and buildings in this video. I think it would be such a tourist attraction to have this as a museum for international steam train enthusiast 🙂. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mnlN0_IQvRA.html
Terima kasih banyak atas komentar Anda. Ya, agak seperti Indonesia di tahun 70-an dan awal 80-an.
As the engine coming into the rail yard by itself one waits for the engine to pass before crossing over the tracks, but back in the distant crowd two small kids, run out in front of the engine and lye something on the track, the engineer blows his horn at them and they one by one run back to the crowd as the engine passes over the object that had laid on the track ,as the engine passed they ran over to see and try to collect there little treasure of the day.Thank you for finding my childhood memories tuck safely in the depths of my mind, thoughts I haven't had for 68 years. But as an adult I rent to work as a brakeman and fireman on the C&O B&O for a while, dangerous but great adventure!
Yes, I had a laugh at that - also the people on their bicycles riding along the track and getting off just before the train came and then, some boars running right in front of the train !! It was probably a Nepalese coin the kids laid on the track - when I was a kid some of my friends would do this, for the fun of showing the other kids at school the next day a flattened penny 🙂
IN INDIA I MADE MANY JOURNEYS IN NARROW GAUGE FROM KURUDWADI TO LATUR ROAD IN MAHARASHTRA INDIA IN MY CHILDHOOD MY WAS NSRTD NIZAM STATE LATER MERGED IN INDIAN RAILWAYS WE USE TO GET FREE PASS

I can't answer for certain. My understanding is that all the steam locos were stored at the former workshops at Khajuri when the line was closed for regauging but I don't know what has happened since.
I have a vague memory of hearing they were trying to sell the engines off a few years ago and a price tag of $80,000 (probably US) coms to mind. The problem would have been getting them out, which is probably what put off Puffing Billy and other 2'6" gauge outfits. Personally, I'd have loved to see the Ducroo and Brauns 0-10-0T saved. I would suspect that the works and the stored engines would have been annihilated with the broad gauge conversion.
What an interesting video. I guess in Nepal they don't have the means to maintain the rolling stock! Don't those people have the time to clean & paint the coaches! I can't believe that little engine can pull all of those coaches overloaded with people! I know Nepal is a poor country but this is pitiful! It's a miracle that there are a few Nepalis who maintain that cute little 2-banger!

Did you read the description? "Enjoy Ross Sadler's historic views filmed at Janakpur just before the line was dieselised in 1993." Even if English is not your first language, Google Translate could have told you this.
🤣❤️🙏love to see this train wow long long time ago people travel with this train superb 1960 are MOOR years ago people was love ❤️ to much I like old time train
The line has been converted to broad gauge and there are many good videos of the modern line available on RU-vid. For the record, this video was taken in late March 1993 and steam was replaced by second-hand diesels from India a few months later. At least one steam engine was still available for charter some years after.
