I have pretty Pale skin with olive undertones because my dad is half spanish and half italian. This makes it very hard to find a good foundation shade that at least kind of matches me. I think brands need to step up their game and try to make Shades for everybody. Your Makeup is so beautiful and Classy in this video by the way. Just stunning!
Thank you!! I’ve been doing a lot of reading on undertones lately and olive is one of the hardest to get right, especially on the fair spectrum so I feel for you xx
I have the same problem. I am often paler than the lightest shade but I am not pink at all. I have a cold yellow undetone, leaning towards green. The closest I've come to find the right color is the fit me foundation but it's still not green enough, and it is about two shades too dark. I try to lighten with my white foundation mixer but it just makes the foundation paler, not lighter... the yellow tone disappears. In color theory with oil paint you use white to lighten towards a colder tone and a light yellow to lighten towards a warmer tone. I know it may sound weird with all the warm and cold tones, but even if yellow is considered more warm than pink, there is still a warm and a cold yellow spectrum. I would probably need a very bright greenish yellow to mix the right shade.
Me too, I'm italian and i'm super pale and i never find pale foundations with yellow undertones, i loved nars siberia, but this colour is not available in this line
I'm so glad you mentioned this! I never thought I was olive but through a ton of trial/error, reading, etc. - and the fact that my neck looks green.... and trying to explain that to someone matching you is basically a disaster. At one point I had someone say, "just add green - that's olive." Do you have any foundations/shades that do work well for you?
I don´t really wear foundation that often due to the shade problem but I find that Maybelline Fit me and Loreal True Match have a good shade range and the Nyx control Drop foundation has a medium olive shade that i sometimes mix in with a lighter yellow-ish shade. I also like to mix in yellow or green correctors sometimes to get a different tone but if nothing works, you´ll have to blend the foundation all the way down your neck :/ (i hate foundation on my neck so much! ugh.)
arna your reviews are so comprehensive and helpful! you remind me of thataylaa because you both put in so much work and really show what the foundation looks like. thank you for being an amazing pale youtuber, bummed that this foundation didn't work all that well for you!
I'm so pissed at nars. Siberia is my perfect match and just a few brands make yellow pale foundations. I hope they don't abandon siberia with their next releases. Btw, your make up look so damn flawless today, like wow! You should include which products you're wearing on your infos!
Love your reviews! I think I am about a shade lighter than you, so these videos really help me judge if a face product would be light enough for me to try out. It’s so disappointing that 80-90% of the time brands don’t bother worrying about the fairest of fair or deepest of deep . Yes, I can add whitening color adjuster (and I do for more affordable, drugstore foundations), but I refuse to do that with a product that costs $30+ in the US. If you can’t make a shade light enough for me, you won’t be getting my foundation money. Maybe one day foundation lines will have more shades that cater to the people on the extreme ends of the shade spectrum. So irritating.
If we keep complaining, they will listen! It's certainly working for the other end of the spectrum as brands are STARTING to listen to POC's requests... for the most part!
I was so excited for this release because I love Siberia as a shade but Sheer Glow doesn't work well with my skin. Soo gutted that they didn't release Siberia for this range 😭
You should try applying the foundation with your fingers! I got such a full coverage and it looked 10x better than when I applied it with a brush and a sponge :) Nars foundations are generally best applied with fingers to warm up the product xx
Ok I’ll try it! I’m usually never a fan of fingers because it’s messy haha perhaps I should start including that method in my testing process though ... for science haha
Nars foundations are meant to be applied with fingers. I have All days weightless and Sheer Glow as well as stick foundation (Mont Blanc is honestly best shade match I ever got in fondation). Applying with fingers is the best way for me.
I wish they had Siberia in this product shade range too. Despite all the shades, it doesn't have one for me because I can't wear pink foundation and don't trust neutrals for the most part, as most of them are just less pink. Gobi is too dark. But it's winter here and I'm happy wearing my Porcelain Bobbi Brown foundation stick.
I wonder why they haven’t just add Siberia with initial launch? It’s such s classic shade! I won’t be purchasing it later as they didn’t bother to release the only shade that works for me.
Jackie Aina was saying that NARS foundations work really well with NARS primers. It’s annoying that you would have to buy a new primer with a new foundation, but it makes sense that a brand would most likely test their foundations with their own primers, and if you had a make up application at a counter, they would only use their own products.
Thank you for pointing out Nars is no longer cruelty free so few youtubers point that sort of stuff out. Hopefully the more they do the more awareness is out there and the sooner all products go cruelty free and people like me will finally be about to buy anything we want.
Yes because this colour would probably be great for you since, from memory, you like a pink base! It’s such a shame with NARS because they went backwards 😪
Your memory is correct I am very pink so yes it's very sad I cant get this foundation it's so hard to find really pink fair shades. You are so right since Nars sold to Shiseido they have really gone down hill.
I'm also pale with a yellow undertone. We don't have a lot of choices. I really like Bobbi Brown's foundation stick in Porcelain. If the shade suits you, it's worth a try.
Great review! Your makeup was so pretty in thus video. I had a sample of this in a slightly darker color, but the color match from the Sephora employee is crazy! It is SO pink and dark that I don't even think I could test it if I was going anywhere.
I love your make up in this video! I would love to know the lip color you’re wearing and what is in the crease of your eyes. I think the shorter hair suits you so well!!! 💖💖💖
Hi! I've been following your videos for a while and I've loved them so much! You're so professional in your reviews and so nice talking about every topic!
Hey! First of all, I'd like to say thank you for your dedication and your content. You are one of the most trustworthy youtuber (especially in the beauty sphere) and I always enjoy your reviews. Then, I saw a new Clarins primer which looked interesting. There's a green one for redness and it hydrates too. It is called the SOS primer and there is one for every skin problem and it retails for 32,50€ in Belgium (must be cheaper for you because things are hella expensive in here). I thought you might be interested in this. XOXO!!
I just recently discovered your channel and I have to say I really find your videos very helpful! I am a very pale girl myself. I have a pale skin tone with a neutral to yellow undertone and it is so hard to find my shade in any foundations! I always have to mix foundations! the closest match is Gobi in the Nars brand for me and I have to add my lighter mac studio fluid foundation just to get my shade! I love the content you make and I'm looking forward to watching future vidoes!!!
I appreciate the review over several wear days. Much more useful than a first impression. In case this helps anyone with shades: I just picked up a sample from Sephora and I found the shade Gobi is a very good pale, yellow. I fell in love with the tone and depth of Gobi when I had Sheer Glow, which I don’t plan to repurchase because it broke up for me. I am not the palest of the pale (Siberia probably matches my inner arm but is slightly too pale for my face), but am too pale/warm for a majority of foundation lines. I found that Gobi was too dark in the All Day Luminous foundation, but in this formula it is slightly lighter. And! It did not oxidize at all the one day I wore it. I don’t have great longevity with NARS foundations, but Gobi is the best match I’ve ever found. I wish that this one actually lived up to the claims!
It’s so weird that they skipped on Siberia... it’s my perfect match but Sheer Glow has a formula that doesn’t work on me at all. Thank you for this review though! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Badgerpaws Mcgee Have you tried Luminous Weightless Foundation ? It’s more for oily skin I believe. I have this one in Siberia, but thinking of getting Sheer Glow. I was looking forward to trying this new foundation but as they skipped my shade I’m feeling disappointed and touched :/
I got samples of Oslo and Mont Blanc...I had to mix the two to get my perfect shade. I loved the finish and how it wore, but can’t talk myself into buying two shades to be able to wear it. So sad they don’t have more options for fair skin! 😩
Love your review! Ty for always doing the swatch comparisons. It helps so much! I was so excited when I first heard about this foundation. I work 13 hrs, so need long wear foundation. But I have dry skin, so most long wear foundation don't look good on me. But then I saw they didn't have Siberia as a shade. And I have a neutral-warm undertone. Which Siberia in sheer glow is borderline too yellow, but I make it work. I can sometimes make slightly cool undertones work cuz I sometimes get red on my chest too. But I don't think I could pull off Oslo. Bummer. Fingers crossed they bring out more shades. Lmfao.
Totally agree with you on the fair shades. I had to purchase the shade Gobi and just mix in a white foundation mixer because I have a neutral/warm undertone but am very fair. Was a bit disappointed the fair shades all had a pink undertone.
I tried this in Gobi (too dark) and it looked beautiful for maybe 2 hours and then I would find myself saying, "what happened?" I totally agree less is more but I do wish the first 3 shades weren't all pink.. it looks gorgeous on you and this haircut/style is so amazing on you
I’m so bummed at the shade range of this foundation; they have some decent fair shades in other foundations/concealers, I wonder why Oslo is so pink and dark... Either way, I’m glad I waited for your video before I tried it out.
I am currently mixing fenty 100 with tf born this way in swan, i feel like switching out the tf for the nars might be a better fit. Fenty is like a perfect match but way too drying on its own for me. I can get away with too faced but just barely. I look slightly jaundiced with it lol i was hoping to not have to mix the nars one but ugh what can you do. The never ending search for the perfect shade
this one matched me quite well because I’m more on the pinkish side but for some reason it looked heavy😅so glad in my case there is a more pink option though haha
I’m late to the game in trying this, but Oslo seems to be a perfect match. I wear it more like a spot concealer and to even out my nose area. I’ve stopped wearing foundation all over as my skin looks better bare. Montblanc makes me look sickly as it’s too grayish on me.
I bought a week ago this foundation in the shade mont blanc, (gobi was definitely too dark) and surprisingly it matches me pretty well. I'm very fair with warm undertones, and mont blanc might me neutral, so that "skin-matching technology" works somehow
I’ve been just binge watching your channel since I found you this week! Love the content! I’ve put so many things on my wish list from your recommendations! Pale girls unite! I have so many questions but I’ll leave with; what is your all time fav primer and setting powder if you could only buy one? Thanks! 💞
I was going to order this until I watched this review and seen how matte it actually turned out. Can someone plz recommend a very very very RADIANT/DEWY FOUNDATION with med- full coverage? I would appreciate any suggestions! 💜💜💜💜💜
Arna Alayne ... A friend told me about it yesterday. I'm going to go to Sephora and test it. Would you suggest the HD liquid or the stick version?? I did "match" to Blanc in the Hourglass stick foundation but it is so expensive. It is the dead of winter here so I am at my palest. Though I leave for my first tropical vacation in 2 weeks ... my skin might see a little sun.
Arna Alayne ... can i ask one more question?? What sunscreen did you use on your vacation? Even summer here in Alberta, Canada is very short and not generally all that hot. I will get my MAC NW13 Nourishing foundation tomorrow (hopefully) and MAC sunscreen so praying it works.
Where is Siberia??? Gutted!! this video answered all my questions and I am so glad that I waited until you filmed it before purchasing!! I think I will go for the new Bobbi Brown one instead!!
I was surprised Siberia wasn’t included. I had the same experience applying it with a brush - it was so streaky I actually thought it would end up being a terrible foundation. I’ll see if Incan wear it during winter; I’ve gone up a shade too and my freckles are getting out of hand 😂
It's such a shame the shades for Nars foundations seem so off...for the pale shades anyway. It has great longevity though! also where did you get the maybelline fit me in ivory 5? I have been searching the internet high and low and can only find it in the UK. xx
Yes such a shame! Awww a lovely subscriber of mine sent it over to me from the US!! Very lucky! It’s pale enough, especially for the drugstore - about the same as the Collection 2000 Concealer x
Hi Arna! As always your content is amazing. Thank you for this review: i was going to blindly buy this.. Also can I ask you about the Lancôme foundation? I have the same but in the shade 005 (the lightest available here in Italy), do you think that your shade, 008, is much more pale? I would like to buy it but I can't really see them in comparison..
I was very disappointed with the foundation. I bought Deauville which was a bit too dark for me (NC15-20), maybe my summer shade. It transfers as you said and it disolves on my skin (dehydrated combination skin). Looks super nice when freshly applied but gets cakey on me...
Good to know, I won’t be purchasing it later as they removed the shade that was staple and the only match. Being an afterthought pale person, no thanks x
Double comment because I have a question - do you know of a green corrector that works well on fair skin? I used to use the NYX HD one in the tube but it was too pigmented to cover with my foundation/concealer.
It's was way too pink for me when I swatched it in store. I have siberia which I do wear even though it's too yellow but I think I can pull that off a little bit more than a really pink undertone foundation. The maybelline fit me concealer is that a new shade available in Australia?
I don't get in Australia why there are really no good budget options for porcelain skin. Is the same true for New Zealand (I really want to visit one day)? It's so annoying because some degree of makeup is almost essential for women these days.
Hey Arna, I’m shade 005 in the Lancôme Teint Idole (which I think is reasonably pink) and pretty perfect match for Urban Decay Naked Skin 0.5.... do you think this shade would work for me? I live regionally and can only order online from Mecca. Thanks for the review! :)
In terms of the depth of shade, this would be fine as it’s a similar depth to UD Naked Skin 0.5. However, it is much more pink than that so if you like the Lancôme shade 005 (which I’m not familiar with) but think it’s pretty pink, then I’d say it’s a pretty good chance you’ll like it xx
Haha yep everyone is different! I could very easily still see my freckles and blemishes through it so it definitely wasn’t full coverage (when applied as I did). 4 pumps gets you to a full coverage, but as I said, it looks like a pink mask!!!
do you know how Mont Blanc (light 2) compares to Oslo? I’ve heard it’s more neutral but it says it’s pink undertones as well. Idk if you’ve swatched that one at all
Mont Blanc is way more neutral - it actually looks yellow swatched next to Oslo because Oslo is so pink! I like the colour of Mont Blanc but found this foundation didn’t wear very well for me personally.
I have them both and I mix them together. Mont Blanc slightly too dark and orange and Oslo is slightly too pink and light. If you have pale neutral skin these work well together.
It’s certainly more pale-friendly than the previous lightest shade! For the drugstore, it’s great - although I also have the age rewind in ivory and that’s a better formula IMO!
I didn’t like it because when I was in the store I tried oslo but it was darker then me so I didn’t buy it also it was a bit lighter than my hands but my hands are darker than my face and chest
So annoyed, I’m very neutral and this is way too pink for me and everything else is too dark. I’m incredibly annoyed at brands saying they will expand their range, release it with all the shades! You’re looking beautiful by the way. X
Haha my boyfriend is also an Alex and I swear every time I kiss him, I somehow get makeup all over his glasses. It's a curse. Also I love your highlight! Do you remember what it was?
Such a shame this isn’t that pale. I was hoping it’d be a great addition but it seems to dark :( especially cause I wear more makeup in winter as it’s colder and it’s less humid so that shade will probably not work at all, oh well. Great review though!
Yep it’ll be too dark for me in winter, but I’m not mad because the tone isn’t quite right either and I wasn’t amazed by the formula - overall I’m kinda like meh, it’s okay haha
Arna Alayne that’s true! If it had of been an amazing formula it would’ve been sad but honestly at the moment I’m quite happy with my MUFE and the new double wear nude shade wise so this saves me some money 👏
Damn Sibera is too yellow this will be too pink. What a shame Nars do pretty good foundations. Have you ever had a foundation that is transfer resistant?
Never one that is completely transfer resistant, but I find ones like my MAC Prolongwear waterproof really good (and heavy ones like Estée Lauder DW or Kat Von D)
Haha it’s the best spot on my body (except my booty) for showing my real winter shade 😉 I am loving summer - especially this week is lovely! 36 today!!
