Yes, I find it sad as well. Orochimaru and Madara did plenty of evil, but their back stories give a glimpse into their humanity. You definitely get a glimpse of Danzo's humanity when he's dying.

Danzo is one of the underrated character in Naruto. He did all the dirty job/sacrifice for konoha's peace. He did what he did to protect the village. Yes he had differences with Hiruzen, but both of them have the same goal that is to protect the village at all cost.
Danzo was freaking terrible. Just think of all the crap he pulled in the series. The guy made my blood boil more than Orochimaru ever did. Okay, that final sacrifice was kind of honorable but that's NOT enough to make up for everything he did, not by a long shot.
Danzo was a great man. He was a necessary Evil needed to keep the village's stability and International Status high. He is what made the Hidden leaf village Great. If it wasn't for him I'm sure the village would've lost the Third Great ninja War or the Shinobi Alliance Would've ceased to exist. What ever he did was a necessity for the village to be strong. For that I thank him. He deserves to have a face portrait on Hokage mountain.
Y'all don't understand, in order for a nation to survive. Someone has to do the dirty work, do bad things to keep others from harming their nation. They portrait themselves as vengeful and they too are human who want to shine. However their job is a thankless one and might make them antisocial and criminal at times dragging them to a bottomless pit. But they burden themselves with more sacrifice than the heroes and good leaders. They embrace a path that truly is the least traveled and in the end they're hated for it.

Yes I agree, but in reality is not practical. Businesses, Countries, and individuals want to survive "basic instinct", this is only achieved through money, power and political control. In order to survive like any other animal we seek to protect our own interest. Leading to actions taken by leaders to preserve one's community and family which pit corporations and people like you and me to make everyday choices that cause a demand of goods. To maintain such demand we promote, business, treaties and war in the interest of our preservation. This creates agencies and individuals who must do work "under the table" to ensure that some people live comfortable lives. And the cruel reality is that in order for some to live comfortable some won't. The result is resentment due to inequality of living privileges, resentment leads to conflict, which leads to aggression, to prevent aggression from turning violent some unfair stuff has to keep them shut. And if you don't see this point look at history, look at today's conflict zones, read on the rise of rebellious entities, read on the fall of economies across the world. example "Venezuela"...But in the end is not about defining who is good or bad. but the intentions and the reasons...I'm all for everyone being happy and having equal living standards. but it just wont happen. Because there's just no way you can have everyone agree in the first place, everyone want's to have their own Idea become the norm...I mean just look at us discussing this on an anime clip.

My only fault with Danzo is that when he was only willing to help the village in his own way. Example Pains attack on the village if he had his own army then they could have helped instead he did nothing and waited to pick up the damaged tree. I know he loved the village and a working system need a dark under line but still the fact that he constantly made unneeded moves that sometimes made things worse, I guess it's the selectivity that annoys me

It would have been a tuff battle. The gold and silver brothers would've both had to use their nine tail powers to fullest. Tobirama would have used the reanimation jutsu but the brothers had the ability to seal any undead with their sage tools. In the end i think Kinkaku and Ginkaku would have been the only survivors of their unit and they'd be in bad shape.
Nope, in the original japanese line Sarutobi says that Shisui is a *descendant* of Kagami, not his son. I didn't watch the english version but maybe they got it wrong and you as well.
I guess it was a translation error since I also remember reading that chapter when it first came out saying that Kagami Uchiha was Shisui father but then later on the error was corrected to descendant of Shisui not father

Everything's Alright Hokage knew that the coup was gonna happen but Hokage's mistake was that he hoped to talk to tFugaku even when the tine for talk was over. Moreover murdering all the Uchiha atleast saved their honour and made them appear as victims. Everyone sympathized with them after they died.

Many may not agree with me but danzo did a lot to help hiruzen behind the scenes and did his best to help the village even when He did try heinous stuff like trying to take kakashi's and shisui's eye,his eventual change of heart towards hiruzen and the massacre of the Uchiha, like most other villains in Naruto he did it because he thought it was right and for his village
i'm all for japanese voice acting, but i think William Frederick Knight did it better here. In the japanese version it just sounds like last dying words, in this english version the voice illustrates the contrasting "light" in the tone of voice, compared to Danzo's life of darkness. the reason it hits the spot is because of the bright memories it displays

Danzo was initially an ambitious person. But his ambition caused him to lose sight of what's more important. This was why the first hokage said what he needed to say at 3:23

So, Basically Harashirama wanted to pick Madara as leader to strengthen bounds. avoid conflict and make the leaf stronger than it ever could. But Tobirama goes: No democracy! Tobirama himself then just elects the next Hokage after himself. Also Danzo was not as much a villain as he was just simply haunted by an inferiority complex to Hiruzen, his best friend and rival. In time he grew power hunger to surpass his old friend, and further down the line the Second Hokage's village above all else was taken to the extreme by him. He is actually a rather tragic character the created so much evil, with the intentions of being good. and as we saw with the Itatchi patch Hiruzen was a horrible leader, he never could act on his own and allowed others to tremble over him. Danzo did what he thought was best for the Village one of those things were trying to ensure a proper leader to the reins, basically himself. His inferiority complex grew to such lengths and his hunger for power too. Danzo's goal was never peace but the security of the village as a whole. the best villain of Naruto indeed.
The guy was good in his own way I guess. Even though he has done terrible things, it was for the sake of the village. He knew sacrifices must be made and he got into it thus making lots of enemies. In the end he was on the right side, but his methods were cruel. Im sure Hiruzen was aware of how much he cared about Konoha cuz he forgave him a couple of times for his drastic actions.. What I didn't like at all was the fact that we never got to see him use Shisui's eye. His most powerful weapon. He thought Sasuke won't strike through Karin. so he didn't activate it and he was stabbed brutally. Anyway, he was a needed and at times interesting character.

well , reality was not a fun place itself , thats why the goal of madara was to create a world without reality. in reality , we have the instinct to protect the person we love from harm and we did everything for it , like danzo itself he love konoha so much but using other method to protect it , to make peace through fear. he was a hero in his perspective yet it never was an hero on the side of reality , because in the same logic all people should be hero in their own story yet , he ( danzo) delete other people dream to realize his dream without their concern (all blood he sacrificed) , than why he is not the real definition of hero but he just a normal human with ambition. what make naruto a hero in reality is how he beat some sense into people in the same time he still let people choose what their heart to follow.

Don't get me wrong I dont particularly like Danzou either, but he had his own way of protecting the village, and went to extreme lengths, putting his goals before his desires each time, to reach it.
I get the fact that these two brothers are essentially Sanin level and the 18 ninjas that accompanied them were Kakashi level so it would make sense that the second Hokage would have a hard time considering he was wounded or very tired but this is what doesn't make sense; Madara beat up an entire army with all the hokage's of the entire villages and Tobirama was able to defeat a prime Madara when they were young he was also accompanied by the future third Hokage, regarded as the strongest Hokage the leaf has ever known according to the narutowiki, and Hanzo a threat in himself. The other shinobi we can just assume are powerful. It sounds like if they all united and attacked the 20 ninjas sent to kill Tobirama they would have all survived or at the very least trasferred enouph chakra onto the group running away and teleported when the time was right.
Kind of makes me wonder.. if only Danzo had made the decision first to be the lure.. Tobirama would have probably then picked him to be hokage instead and there wouldn't be any Danzo you see in the show. I think Tobirama was waiting for someone to say it first then planned to pick that specific person as hokage only because of the fact that that person was willing to give his/her life. Now I see why though.. Danzo stole all those eyes to not only try to become more powerful and to try and become hokage BUT to put the Sharingans power to better and more good use for the village instead of the sharingan being used for evil purposes in the leaf like most of the Uchiha you see in the show used it for. I think basically every side you see in this show (except for the people who side with naruto) are all evil and are all bad in their own way. Both the Uchihas and Danzo were evil. Danzo should have known better to aquire his power through different ways rather than stealing others for his own purpose. I wonder if Hiruzen knew he had Sharingans implanted all over his body.

It's to be expected that people doesn't have maturity to appreciate Danzo. Keep in mind that Naruto is a shonen and it has a very manichaean philoshopy and justifies criminal characters with alien bullshit or over exaggerated sad backstories. Danzo didn't have that treatment so people hate him. He's a real character in an unrealistic world with unrealistic and poorly done characters at worst and mediocre unrealistic characters at best
I dunno but I felt saddened by his death, though not literally sad. Danzo and Hiruzen both had good and bad intentions, both made wise and wrong decisions although Danzo was a bit darker than Hiruzen. At least at the very least, what Danzo wants was for the good of the village.
This last ditch effort to "redeem" Danzo via flashback is not enough for the entirety of bullshit he did after. * Ordered the massacre of the Uchiha because that's the ONLY thing he could think off. He wanted the status quo with the Uchihas always getting the bad end of the stick in governance. * Sided with Hanzo against the fledgling Akatsuki that made the organization even more potent in the future. * Have tried to assassinate Hiruzen many times by hiring mercenaries and hiding his trails. * Leaked Naruto being a jinchuriki thus giving the boy a traumatized childhood. * Conspired with Orochimaru and the Sand Village against the Leaf during Chunin exams. * Have done countless human experiments and treated his subordinates expendable, but he himself is not and even used others for his own power. * Waited when the Six Paths of Pain attacked Konoha, Even going so far to kill a scout toad to alert the invasion. If not for Pain reviving everybody, Danzo would possibly stage a military coup to the already weakened Leaf Village. * Used underhanded techniques to get a leverage in the Kage summit. * Even as he died, Danzo only kept Shisui's eye away from Tobi, which should have not in his possession in the first place.

Danzo thinking that sacrificed himself is the way his grandfather and father did, that's why he was scared. Hiruzen is instead thinking about protecting others. That's why hiruzen is chosen to be hokage. Instead in later years, danzo chose to sacrifice others for the sake of village, through deception, lie, threat, that's the reason why his victims like sasuke or kabuto chose to destroy konoha, and he end up defeated by sasuke. Those leaders who protect by sacrificing others are just sowing the seed of destruction, just like kabuto who once betrayed by danzo is the one who started the fourth war.
Danzo cared for the village. He would do anything to protect it there is no question about that. However his approach was wrong. He wanted to rule konoha with an iron fist and he was to some extent power hungry as well. He did not understand the concept of peace and trust. He was too paranoid and didn't trust anyone and wanted to rule the village by fear, blackmail and intimidation. That's why he's not fit to be the Hokage. Because it's as the saying goes "a person doesn't get acknowledged because he became the Hokage a person becomes the Hokage because everyone acknowledges him.
