I believe the double meaning is that, 1. Naruto had literally gotten heavier (since he's older), and 2. He now has more weight on him as a hero. The stronger Naruto became the more people that relied on him. Essentially, Naruto is carrying the feelings, hopes, and dreams of many comrades (and enemies), thus making him "heavier." Tl:dR- Naruto grew up and became dependable.

"He's gotten heavier" is a callback to when Kakashi carried Naruto after his battle with Sasuke in OG, when he said "He's gotten lighter."

After all that he lived and learned in that arc, he has grown...Now he lives for 2 dreams, one to be Hokage and accepted by the village and one to bring peace to the ninja world. He has a lot more on his mind and shoulder now, Pain is a hard lesson to learn at is fullest...More are yet to come...

The thing is Naruto learned from Pain’s message on a thought stand point but he never acted on it. And as we see in Boruto the cycle still just continues exactly as Pain said, Pain was right.

Considering the rest of the story and power levels climbing, in some way, its quite understandable why Kishimoto sensei concluded Jiraiya's story with such a hurry. More important, Jiraiya has finished his path by accomplished his mission.

That's not to say the following arcs are bad, they're just controversial, if you like the involved characters you tend to like the arcs (S and O). Also Konan does get more of a spotlight later. (Also there is the Mizukage.)

@ThePreator 11 same thoughts here! Ofc the war arc is 101 eps long, which part is your fav? The first third is more a variety of chars like darui, choji, gaara, etc. The middle is O, madara, K. The end is all the juubi jinchuriki stuff. I think if I were to rank them it would be 1 middle 2 end 3 beginning.

The scene where Ebisu reminisces the progress of Naruto is my most favorite scene of the entire show. It does not only recap the show, but puts Naruto and his position in the village into perspective, how he progressed, how his goal to be accepted came to be without us even noticing. It is truly amazing, and the only other scene that even comes close to it emotionally is that question of the last episode.

I really liked that they showed Naruto gaining everyones trust over time, it could easily have been sudden after he rescued everyone from Pain but makes far more sense this way.

Possibly the most emotional scene in the show. Always a happy/sad feeling all at once, seeing how he was treated when he was younger, up until people actually worrying about him and giving him props

I've said this for the last ten years but this is where naruto could have started wrapping up in such a satisfying way. He finally gets the acceptance he wanted. The final goal was never Hokage, it was acceptance and getting back the one person he felt actually understood him. But na, this is the end of the tutorial level...buckle up everyone

Yup... that's why I think hinata from haikyuu is a better character/protagonist than naruto. Until this point naruto would've be such a well written character ( amoung the basic characters, not even close to TOP TIER characters like, johan liebert, gatsu, gon, onizuka etc) but after this point it became such a trash character in his own series. It would be a great message if naruto dtop caring about being a hokage since his goal is already accomplished. Not gonna talk about haikyuu since it would've be a spoiler but, even if hinata is based on the popularity of naruto as a protagonist, it easily surpass him as a character

I agree with you to some extent. However, at this point there are still many loose ends like the rest of the Akatsuki members, Tobi and Sasuke. Remember Sasuke wanted to destroy the Hidden Leaf and kill every denizen of the Leaf. The Akatsuki still had all of the Biju barring a few. Concluding the series here would have been really abrupt here because we wouldn't have been able to find out the many things. But I still get where you are coming from since this could have been the perfect ending as well.

While I agree this arc was peak shippuden, i disagree that what happens afterwards doesn't come close. The 2nd half of the show ( specifically the war arc ) has some of the greatest/hypest/ most emotional moments of the entire series imo. And i also loved the actual ending of the show.

To me this arc overall is the best written Shippuden arc from its characters, pace, storytelling and emotional impact. While alot of what is to come is some good stuff a lot of the arcs doesn't live up to this one as a whole. To directly point the FINAL arc, it has things I personally hate in most storytelling that drags it down and the ending for me was just okay with some minor issues.

I'm getting tired of this shitty take. How would anyone be satisfied with the show ending here? No resolution to Sasuke and Madara issue. No naruto becoming hokage. It would be disappointing as hell.

@@hunterdalton6905 Exactly my point. I understand where Naruto fans get this sentiment that the show could have concluded here, since this ending is perfect. However, as You rightly said there are so many things unresolved like Tobi/Madara's goal with the Biju, Sasuke's goal of destroying the Leaf, the remaining members of the Akatsuki and then there is Kabuto as well. Had the show concluded here, we wouldn't have gotten any resolution to these issues.

It's all too perfect for an end and I think that maybe the first thought of Kishimoto was to end the story here. Maybe the Sasuke problem was meant to be already resolved at this point and maybe all the other things were just added after they thought about extending the story ? It's just a feeling about the narrative building, the end of this arc really feel like the end for the big story and I would not be surprised if it was actually first constructed for ending here (sorry for bad english it's not my language)

I legit teared up a little bit when the entire village was waiting for him and cheering him on after he saved them. Up until this point, the closest thing to recognition that Naruto had gotten for his accomplishments had been the applause he got during the chunin exams. Other than that, we had never been shown any hint that the village had finally started to acknowledge Naruto. But then this episode came and it was revealed that the village had been paying attention to Naruto from the very beginning and, gradually, Naruto gained their respect. One of the most amazing developments in anime ever.

Yep that’s the entire point of the lesson, if Naruto had decided to kill Nagato in cold blood then everyone in the Leaf would remain dead. By ending the cycle of hatred, Naruto was able to reach out to Nagato and talk no jutsu him into stopping his war against the world.

@@Roktall Spoiler Dude that wasn't naruto. Orochimaru himself decided to go on that path. When sasuke resurrected him, orochimaru became interested in what sasuke would do next and then decided his own path, no one convinced him to change, he did it himself.

Man is somebody cutting up onions? I tear up every single time I watch this. Naruto finally got what he wanted his whole life, true acceptance from the Leaf. This makes me mad that all those adults were so shitty to this orphan, but it does bring a smile on my face seeing everyone celebrate and embrace Naruto. And man, the small moments with Kakashi, Iruka, Sakura, all were just icing on this. Well done arc!

I just want to point out that Pain could’ve easily defeated Naruto if he didn’t use his Almighty Push against the Leaf. He used an insane amount of Chakra for that Jutsu. So when he fought Naruto he was already at a weak state. No one cares, but I feel like people don’t really talk about that.

This is the best epidoe in the show imo. All Naruto has been through has finally been recognized and hes respected by the entire village. When I watched this episode for the first time, i teared up and took a break from Naruto for 2 years cuz it really felt like the end then I got back into the show and finally finished it.

It does feel like the final episode. It's really setting up for the finale arcs of the series, which, from a storytelling standpoint, function as a single, very large story arc. Acknowledging his fame and adoration among the Leaf at this point in the story makes quite a bit of sense, considering the direction the remaining arcs go.

I just want to say that "Talk no jutsu" is the worst thing that Naruto fandom has ever created. With this arc Kishimoto wanted to tell a deep story and send a message about how, yes you need to fight to protect what you love (Naruto vs 6 paths) but if you really want to end the conflict and hatred you need to do this through talking and understanding, not killing. But today everything that I hear about this arc is "talk no jutsu, talk no jutsu". I hate this😥

i second to that. funny thing is, people who actually created this thing are the ones who are brain dead. they're probably dealing with their problems in an abusive manner. the beauty of this show is the life lessons it brings and i have benefited from it. these people probably didn't learn a single thing and just wanted to see a brawl.

Now hang on a minute, I just think it’s a joke based on the unique aspect behind naruto’s personality to connect with other people, especially those who are conflicted with hatred. I think the whole talk no jutsu is funny cuz it’s lowkey true. As much as naruto battles his opponents, he changes their hearts with his words, like he did here with nagato. But I see what u mean and I truly see the lessons that this show brings to life and how people benefit from it. After all Naruto taught me to never give up on your dreams.

What made me tear up is that kakashi was brought back to life and yet he went straight to naruto to help him out. Didn’t even give himself a few minutes to rest up. He woke up and was like wtf. Was told what had happened with naruto and ram to him. This arc was the end to naruto’s character arc. Getting the respect he sought out for so long. He’s finally achieved it. Now his new journey is to bring peace to the ninja world.

People say " oh god . THiS iS LAmE . WhY ThEy gOT rEViveD ?? " . I should point out 3 things . Unlike some other animes out there , pain didn't just caually bring them back to life . He GAVE his life and died to bring them back . It's the perfect redemption for jiraya's student . He used his power , to give everyone else a second chance since it was too late for himself ... . Second , we have the war arc coming . How the hell could they beat obito without kakashi ?? If he didn't bring them back , don't you think the villagers would've $hitted on naruto for the deaths ?? Third , the plot of the gedo art of rinne rebirth ... . And the guy that was supposed to get revived ... . And the fact that he gets finally revived with this .... . Kishimoto had a plan in his mind all the way .... .

I'm seeing a lot of haters in the comments talking about how bad Naruto (the character and the show) is shit afterward. I mean that's the usual pattern I guess... Then the reactor(s) reach the end of the next arc/saga (call it whatever you want) and thus the end of the "canonical" story, especially episode 476-479, and I almost want to bet that people I usually see commenting "Dude it was the best fight ends down, perfect conclusion to the best arc etc" are the same saying "The Pain arc is peak" and also the same saying "Chunin exam though" or even "Haku/Zabuza is the embodiment of the entire serie". I'm sure some are consistent but I want to see you try to make your presence known when the end of the next arc happens. It will be a pleasure to debate cause I've seen shitty arcs and shitty animes... it's not part of it. You can still enjoy this arc and jerk it off if you want. As long as you make it clear it's subjective (no "it's a fact" or "everyone think it's the best" nonsense allowed) and that you are reasonable with your criticism for the next arc (which I didn't see for the most part but that's to be expected).

Heck even sakura got way better in shippuden and especially in boruto compared to how she was in og. @@patricktorres1292 Have to disagree with some of those. Tsunade and Lady Chiyo were great. Konan and Temari were under-utilised, but had a lot of potential. Mizukage was disgraceful imo, she was powerful, but her entire thing was about how she was too old to get married, which did not rub off well on me. (Didn't say anything about Kushina because the Normies haven't met her yet 😅)

Honestly, that really felt like a grand ending. I don't know if I even wanna know what comes after. This feels like the peak. It's kinda how I felt with DBZ after Gohan killed Cell, and how everything after the Cell Games just felt...extra. This just feels like a proper ending. Maybe not a complete ending per se, but a proper one.

The only thing i really don't like about this episode is how Naruto just forgets about Hinata and what she did for him. It would have been much better if when Sakura was hugging him, he would remember about Hinata and rush searching for her. And after a short dialog would have hugged her and said thank you. And that would have been a great interaction between them and further develop their feelings for each other. Always seemed to me as a missed opportunity.

That whole relationship wasn’t the best tbh. Not a lot of leg work done in Shippuden for it. Maybe in the background while Iruka was delivering his monologue it would’ve been fitting. After Sakura it would’ve felt a little redundant. Their relationship could’ve developed more in the next arc imo, Hinata could’ve been useful and got her own development as well.
