When this album came out it got trashed by rap fans and by publications. I remeber rap radar putting it on "the most dissapointing albums of 2010" list. By this time the nas is "fake deep" and "preachy" narrative was at its height. Ironically this album performed well internationally and is certified in a few countries. Damian posted a while back on IG that its now platinum in the UK, Showed the plaque. The world tour was huge, they did close to 40,000 at wembly stadium in 2011. He was kinda ahead of the curve again with afro-fusion before it caught on in the states..
One of my favourite albums ever regardless of genre. This album is perfect. I was a Bob and Damian and Nas fan growing up so when this happened I lost it lol people don’t give Nas enough credit for flowing on these beats with lots of live instrumentals with Damian and Stephen Marley producing
Since he's doing most the production on it, it seems he was the creative driving force with Nas fitting in where he can. It would be cool to hear a follow up where Nas is more in the lead, but I don't think that makes the music any lesser.
Bruh, yall thought yall wasnt gonna have to see me? Illmatic is the most slept on because i can tell people not really listenin to it. Cheetah bars and whatnot 🤦🏾♂️
