Do you guys ever hear a song that you haven't heard in a long time and once you hear it again you get rushed by a ton of memories, little glimpses of your past again?
Makes me think that they live in the underground. Conscious of the world around them. Spending their time rappin, hustlin, drinkin and smokin. This photo looks like they recently came up from the underground and are looking at the world. Society and how people live. Looks like they plottin something. Up to no good. Surviving in the ghetto. Remaining in the shadows..
We take for granted how effortlessly Nas makes conversational rap. The complexity of the rhymes while still being coherent in the narrative he’s creating is what separates him from the rest.
@@anatorres-ym8ke I don’t know one Eminem song that I like. His voice, choice of beats and cadence is irritating. Em don have a song like this in his catalogue.
My friends Dont listen to Nas cause they cant comprehend his rhymes but at least i cud come on to RU-vid n chill with Fans Of Nas from different parts of the Globe.
Personal opinion, but I feel as if Nas, especially early Nas, is the greatest MC to ever touch the mic. I love BIG, Big L, Mobb Deep, Scarface, Masta Ace, all of em. Nas just gives me that raw emotion in almost every song. I find myself breaking down his lyrics as if studying poems. Like an onion going deeper layer by layer and becoming more fascinated with each new thought learned. Truly beautiful.
Well I mean, I've written some insane shit since I was 12 and I just turned 20. But then again, this is Nas, and I'm not Nas haha. I did think about it though, and my fucking head hurts now
Cerwercker No, Deja Vu was confirmed to be made during the development of It was Written along with Everything is Real, Understanding and Life is a Dice Game but were later scrapped. The only songs that were Pre-Illmatic (1991-1992) were Nas Will Prevail, On The Real and Just Another Day In The Projects.
Man I almost forgot what a real lyricist sounds like. As guilty as I feel saying it,to many people are giving Tupac the crown when the King is still out there. This is some real shit.
Stephen Granville 100% correct realist comment ever. Tupac was great don't get me wrong but we are still blessed with one of the greatest living lyricist ever PERIOD!!!
Even though Nas is very good, he's not even in the top 3, and in my opinion, he barely makes it to the top 10. Even though he's great, there is better than him.
I agree with you on that,I've heard rappers that were deeper, more charismatic and just all around more interesting, but the rappers that are "up there" like Nas,Tupac,Biggie,Snoop Dogg etc,the classic hall of fame rappers Nas is about the best. I mean if we get real technical we could start talking about all the rappers that cant even rap like lil dicky lol. That would just be a disgrace though, and illmatic is a staple in hip hop history.
1:40 *Nas is the perfect combination between rhyme and coherence.* Poets can paint vivid images without rhymes, and rappers can rhyme so much that they sacrifice meaning and narrative structure. And then there’s Nas.
"But miracles never leave the churches, instead it hits the pockets of the preacher just to purchase a house with a swimming pool, labels ME a sinning fool, I'm just a ni**a who inherited a winning jewel." Are you kidding me?? Those bars right there makes it SO hard to not rewind this song
NaS and AZ were like Coffee and Tea. You had one of them that you liked a little more than the other. "Time is illmatic, keep Static like wool fabric" ✌️
@Jmatac999 Not yet broda, I've been deep into Japanese Rap lately, so i been Outta the loop for a good while. I missed AZ a lot man. It's definitely gonna be fire 🔥
Nerman ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XoF0xXjULe0.html only idiot could say that Chino is shit, he would bash most so called mc's in lyrical battle. Nas, Xzibit,OC wont have power to handle Chino, now with Big L shit might get hard.
MuseR only the mainstream! in the underground there is more dope music being made than ever, it just doesnt get recognition bc the trash ass mumble rappers get pushed on us

@@4ourbid in that case it sure would have been a hit, in this case it stays a kind of mysterious and nostalgic. Like a hidden gem for us Hiphop fans, just my humble opinion.
Haters in hip hop media have been hating Nas for outshining/outrapping their favorites when it comes to rap, so they have routinely tried to downplay and outright ignore his greatness for years. It’s a shame, because they could just promote the versatility of the artform by presenting songs like this to the masses…but here we are. Real ones know
@Mike Paras Because pacs wasn’t getting credit or relevancy when he had with the complex lyrics like he did in his earlier days.... Nas can’t touch pac
"when im deceased my inner beast will rise like yeast to conquor peace leaving savages to roam on the streets" thats like him saying when someone gets killed multiple people come back for revenge to avenge his death
"When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast" He's referring to the "seeds" he planted aka all hip hop fans he's influenced with his music to "stampeded the globe," his legacy will have longstanding influence long after he's gone.
This isn’t a happy song or a sad song.. this song is REAL and that’s why I love it.. whenever I need something to relate to and feel less alone I play this song right here..
swaggy p Yepp. Bro that's exactly what I tell people everytime I listen to this song and all of the OLD Nas classics. Truly was the golden age of hip-hop.
I WISH SOMEBODY WOULD ASK HIM ABOUT THIS TRACK IN A INTERVIEW OR SOMETHING. I WANNA KNOW HIS MINDSET, THE HISTORY, WHAT HE WAS DOING IN THE STUDIO... EVERYTHING LOL...
Im a Nas fan dont get me wrong but Nas himself said . "Big L scared me to death When i heard that on tape I was scared to death I was like theres no way i can compete with this if this is what i gotta compete with" he said that on audio you aint know hip hop
+Anthony Paul Oh here we go, someone saying you don't know hip hop cos somebody said something. Big L isn't even top 10 ever. NIGGA DOESNT HAVE A CLASSIC. I don't give a damn what NaS says. He's better than Big L. Dude ain't even better than Ghostface, Raekwon, or Kool G Rap, lmao. L is more of a punchline battle rapper type of nigga. Stop trying to be different.
Listening to this song gives me chills because it reminds me of what Hip Hop and lyricism sounded like before southern influence(excluding the likes of Jay Electronica, Ludacris, Big Krit and so on) my only question is what 56 people on God's Green Earth with two working ears could listen to this song in it's entirety and then fix their finger to click the dislike button. If you don't like this song you don't like Hip Hop and probably don't even like music in general
Bro....as big of a Nas fan I am. I've never heard this joint. I feel like I unlocked a secret world or something. This shit is 🔥🔥🔥 honestly a top 100 song ever just from the first listen I get those vibes. Sheesh.
Bro...I’m with you...embarrassed to say it’s 2020 and I just got open...pre Illmatic heat. This beat is so dirty...reminds me of a rusty swing set swaying in the park
Wow...I can't believe this song has *5.7 million views.* That's crazy. I thought this song was hella obscure and unknown when I first found it several years ago. It's beautiful to see that there's still people who appreciate real hip hop as much as I do
@joey That was in an interview Nas was doing in response to not caring about Jim Jones trying to diss him. Nas was just mentioning a few names that would make him nervous like Pac,Big and even Canibus, and how he would have to go all out if they were going to battle. But, that's something anyone would say about the great MS's that they respect.

This reminds me of riding the N train through Astoria staring out on the graffiti covered rooftops with the city in the background on a crispy Fall day in late October in 1995. Take me back to my youth in Queens.
