In 1992, nitric oxide was proclaimed molecule of the year by the journal Science and was described as a startlingly simple molecule which unites neuroscience, physiology, and immunology, and revises scientists' understanding of how cells communicate and defend themselves.
In 1998, Robert F Furchgott, Louis J Ignarro and Ferid Murad were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery that the gas nitric oxide is an important signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system.320,331 When I first began to read about the benefits of nitric oxide I was astounded as to how one simple gas could influence all major systems and organs, help keep us free from disease including cancer, promote a longer life, and even perform better in bed.
Strangely, despite these life-changing attributes, it seems that few people outside of the field of medicine are aware of this gas and its tremendous benefits to health. Of the hundreds of people I have spoken to with high blood pressure, poor cardiovascular health, asthma, and other ailments, not one of them was aware of the existence of nitric oxide.
When it comes to nasal breathing and breath hold exercises, Nitric Oxide plays an important role. Nitric oxide is produced inside the nasal cavity and the lining of the thousands of miles of blood vessels throughout the body.

Mr. McKeown, your work has been a gift. I'm so grateful. I've had asthma since I was a boy (in a very stressful childhood home). nose breathing has all but eliminated any asthma, including physical exercise - induced. I believe that my shallow, fast mouth breathing as a boy (in response to a very stressful environment) created the lung constriction (asthma), and then my inhaler essentially kept that condition in place, so-to-speak. Had I learned to breathe through my nose I'm quite convinced that I would have eliminated my asthma right away. Thank you again.

Please help all of us gain a consistent understanding of nitric oxide production by addressing the following questions: 1) Are medical patients that are put into dive tanks to breath pressurized, pure oxygen hurting their nitric oxide production? 2) Do celebrities, rich folks and professional athletes that intentionally breath pure oxygen (sometimes even in pressurized dive tanks) hurting their nitric oxide production? 3) Do sleep apnea sufferers unintentionally develop better nitric oxide production? 4) Are folks living at higher altitudes better off? (They seem, in some studies to have higher rates of depression and suicide.)

The mechanics of breathing, and synchronization of all the diaphragms in the body and movement of the spine and the quality of these primary and secondary curves not to mention the the baseline neural tone of CNS ( anticipatory state) effects on the muscular tone of respiratory muscles.

I have obstructed sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine/mask nightly which when used correctly makes you breathe through the nose. After watching your video, it stands to reason that I should have a higher oxygen level content in my blood. Would this be a correct assumption?
@jbarkley4198
@jbarkley4198 2 года назад
I also have osa and have a cpap. I’ve wondered the same thing. I think it would be wise to practice some deep nose breathing with the cpap on before going to sleep, to really strengthen that muscle mind connection for nose breathing. And also practicing nose breathing throughout the day. But I believe the nose mask breathing would naturally help increase the oxygen levels
