Hi Ian. I remember this race well as I was one of the commentators calling this race. We got so entertained by the antics of Jordan Cox and it was clear that people who were watching the live feed via the Bathurst 12 hour website agreed. Twitter blew up with close to 200-300 tweets during the race. It's a pity that the whole race is no longer available because you could see how tightly sprung the car was, because every time Jordan would make the left hander into McPhillamy the left rear tyre would be up about an inch off the deck. Improved production is a great category of racing in Australia. Everything from Falcons and Commodores to BMWs and an old Toyota Celica campaigned by Leigh Forrest. Jordan is now racing TCR and I would like to think the awareness of his skill as a driver partly came from the races he was in over this weekend.

I've never heard of this driver before (I'm EU, obviously) but you are absolutely right. To make that kind of move in a race requires a keen knowledge of your car. Truly man and machine merging when he absolutely yeets that civic in that turn. He is carrying so much speed that he opens the distance in matter of seconds. Absolutely on the limit.

if i remember correctly, he's got another amazing pass, i can't remember if its at then gold coast or adaleid, its a 8 lap dash between jordan and a toyota ae86, where jordan passes him on the outside of a chicane
@NLRevZ
@NLRevZ Год назад
Yes, this. The sheer lateral movement he did in that chicane pass makes it all the more exciting. That AE86 running a turbo 3S-GTE versus an NA K20-powered Civic made for some insane battling. Mind you, Jordan Cox went on to race for an actual contract team (drove the Wall Racing TCR Honda Civic Type-R) so the commentator's remark was on point!

Superb driving, no doubt about that. Allow me to disagree though, because the best passing of all time was performed by Nelson Piquet on Senna, in Hungry 1986. True, That was one INSANE pass. Got to give kudos to that Toyota Celica also, that's an early 1970's car, racing stuff from around 2000 onwards. Where he dived through there , end of Skyline into the First of the esses , he probably got Airborne . No wonder he was on two wheels trying to stay out of the Sand . His Testicles are heavier than his Car . Probably only 1600cc's too . Because he didn't lose momentum into the Esses , it's no surprise he was simply GAWN after that . Great to see a Pretty little Silly-Car (Celica) running around too . The Yellow car . Great Racing . Proper , as they say .

At this spot i think the civic got a huge advantage, because it is so light and agile with that shorter wheelbase, and that skyline had to be sooo much earlier on the breaks with all that size and mass ... still incredibly brave move, to exploit the civics strengths on that particular spot of the track like this.

It's not just driving. It's the difference in car. on a track which is mainly longer straights, and long sweeping corners... or an oval track, That Holden would dominate the Civic, day in, day out. But on Bathurst, on the mountain, the Holden has nothing on that Civic. While the Holden can hold the Civic back on the longer straights, due to it's power advantage, the Civic has weight advantage, which aids it in braking and turning. Hence, the Civic can brake later, and turn harder. Weight is one of the most underestimated advantage by people who aren't in to motorsports. or aren't that well versed in actual performance. While big power helps you to accelerate, especially on higher speeds. Light weight helps you to brake, turn, and accelerate on lower speeds.

Best pass ever? Not even close! That honor should go to Mika Hakkinen for his hair raising maneuver to pass Michael Schumacher during the 2000 Belgian Gran Prix at Spa Francorchamps. That day Mika clearly had the faster car but Schumacher was in front and blocked everything Mika tried. I don't recall the lap # but, through Au Rouge Mika was glued to Schumacher's rear end, as they approached the hard right hander at the end of the Kimmel straight, at 200+/- MPH down the middle of the track, Schumacher jinked left at the last second revealing to Mika a previously unseen (by him) much slower car directly in his path. With lightning fast reflexes Mika went to the right of the slower car, then hard on the brakes to overtake Schumacher into the right handed and from there walked away to win the race! Truly a white knuckle, thrilling moment I'll never forget!
