Nashville community reacts after Covenant School shooter’s writings posted online

Brent Leatherwood, a spokesperson for a group of parents with The Covenant School, called for an investigation after images purported to be the writings of a shooter who killed six people at the school were posted online. He also called out the person who posted the images, saying “just be a human, for once.”

It gives the sane us citizens and parents an idea on how these ideologies are affecting their friends and children that are not sane. By people knowing what drove this person into doing what he done can help people prevent it in the future. The three pages of that manifesto speaks volumes on how identity and cultural politics are affecting the mentally ill. I am aware that there is more that hasn't been released. But what was released is pretty clear.

I don't know if he's doing it to protect the families or for any political reasons. But I would think if it was for a political cause he would want to put it out there considering he's republican. So I honestly think there is more of a chance of it being a ethical reason than a political one. Like I said I understand it but I don't agree with it. I read the 3 released pages, they’re very disturbing and hate-filled. The kids were referred to as tow-headed crackers and fa66ots, lots of hate speech. They mentioned this had been planned several years. Why release something that will further upset the community and the parents of these kids? There are lots of places to get a fix of distress, no need to publish a rambling torrent of hate speech that only shows how malignant this person was.

To the law enforcement person (if they are indeed that), thank you. The public does have a right to know. You are ensuring safety and protection of your community rather than the easy go along to get along route others take. This mayor may call you names because that is all he has. I read the 3 pages In total, Fired more than 150 rounds the trans male 6 hated Christians thus picked a Christian school he massacred a few and injured many he targeted a primary school children and staff died he stated that he hated crackers aka white people and children hated they're god and asked unidentified god probably specificed in the rest of the manifesto to make her wrath stronger then her anxiety so he can commit the act this man was 28 years old and was obsessive about the race of these children and the fact they had white privilege were Christian and were part of problem with systemic racism. The anti-white rhetoric in that manifesto is pretty standard for the contemporary American left. So I highly doubt a copycat is the main concern. The fact that the overriding reaction after the shooting was concern for the safety of the SHOOTER’S “community” and not that of the victims made it obvious that narrative control was priority number one.

The shooter's community Green Hills is one of the most affluential areas in Nashville, and is definitely christian conservative. There's a Trump sign in every other yard and it is a large Republican voting block. The shooter's community and the victim's community were one in the same. She actually went to the school/church where all of this took place.

Because it was tied up in the courts by the church and families of children killed. The Tennessee appeals court has just sided with the church and families of the children killed against releasing the manifesto. "The Tennessee Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of Covenant parents in the lawsuit to block the release of documents related to the March 27 shooting. The Covenant families have fought for months to have a say in what’s released, particularly regarding the shooter’s so-called manifesto."

I don't think people understand how much control churches have in Nashville. We are called the buckle of the bible belt here in Nashville for a reason. The speaker featured here is Brent Leatherwood, and is a spokesperson for a group of parents within the Covenant School. He is president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention. They are large lobbyist for conservative politics and have a lot of sway over laws and lawmakers here. Our Republican Governor Bill Lee is also tightly knit with this church and was friends with one of the teachers who were killed. I think our governor and the church commission had a lot to do with why these papers were not released. The shooters residence and this church/school are in the most affluential area in our city and she was a student at the church. I think the church felt this would negatively affect them therefore the continued fight to keep it hidden. Just a thought.🤔

The case for release of the manifesto was tied up in the courts by the church and families of children killed. The Tennessee appeals court has just sided with the church and families of the children killed against releasing the manifesto. The article reads. "The Tennessee Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of Covenant parents in the lawsuit to block the release of documents related to the March 27 shooting. The Covenant families have fought for months to have a say in what’s released, particularly regarding the shooter’s so-called manifesto." Initially, the Davidson County Chancery Court granted the parents’ motion to intervene based on the Victims’ Bill of Rights and Article 1, Section 35 of the Tennessee Constitution. The Court released its opinion Thursday, Nov. 30, ruling in favor of the Covenant families.
