I dont think hes gonna moved. One the asking peice is super high what ever is in your mind of price its probably higher. Nashville is stairing down a potential swayman ulmark style pairing. Two. After the free agency signings (which i love as a nashville fan) there is very little cap space for a big name trade like marner naces who ever, and to many extra pieces would have to move with him.
Barry wants a lot for him and so he should….. I’d keep him and see how the next couple years go…. He is under contract and if Wedgwood doesn’t work out, bring him up next year to backup…. Saros is small and relies on speed and he will lose a step in couple years. The contract is a good contract and trade him in 3 years, get a small return, and you have a 24-25 year old goalie for the next decade and coming into his prime:…. I wouldn’t trade a 11 overall pick, and a generational goalie for nothing but a massive package
Askarov will come to training camp and compete with Wedgewood for a backup spot. If he's not ready, he'll be sent to Milwaukee for more seasoning. The Preds are in no hurry.
I agree, no rush to move him, but WeW the return they will get for him will be massive. Trotz isn't playing around and he shouldn't with a blue chip prospect like that
This all happened with Saros re-upping with The Predators. Then Wedgewood signing is what added more to this. Im sure if this happened sooner Fitzgerald wouldve been on this more, but he had to make a move on Markstrom, im sure the price tag for Askarov was insane
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN agreed the price tags has to be high but, there was no need for us to trade for two middle of the pack goalies at the end of last year
@@Mechanicsville804 KK was a trade to get rid of VV contract and get more leeway in the salary cap. Allen is solid backup for one year during which Askarov can grow (if we can get him)
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN Preds organization isn't going to move him up until he shows ready for a few seasons. They dint prematurely promote guys to the NHL
One of the problems with trying to get Askarov is we are still conditioning Daws. He has almost 50 NHL games for us already with ups and downs but definately a promising future. So if we got Askarov would we keep Daws in the AHL semi-permanently? Interesting Wedgie is a solid #2 for the Preds now after we let him go twice but he was in that sort of situation with us. He spent many years as a Devil during the Brodeur / Schneider era when he had no chance of playing in the big leagues.
I know and he played so good with Dallas. Im sure Trotz wants him to develop, where the player feels im ready to show what I can do and hes got to spend 2 years in the minors. Then if that's the case, a backup, until Saros deal is done, definitely something to keep an eye on
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN yes why wouldnt they make him a back up to saros, but instead get wegewood, WHY, big mistake on nashville's part. whish the Leafs could get him.
Thats what bummed me about the Cotter trade, assets like that shouldve been used for a trade like this, not for a 3rd 4th line guy, but Maybe Fitzgerald tried and Trotz said no, who knows
Unfortunately, Tom Fitzgerald 🤡 & Martin Brodeur hitched their wagons to a couple of old washed up goalies. In the terms of Allen, totally washed. Allen only has a job in NJ because he is Martys old golfing buddy from his time in St. Louis. Markstrom also used to play against Marty. Notice a pattern here? I personally have zero faith in both Fitzgerald & Brodeur's abilities to scout, acquire, develop, & hold on to actual legitimate goaltending talent. Their track record to date has been abysmal. The Wedgewood waivers debacle for no reaso was one of the worst most baffling moves in NJ Devils history. Askarov wouldve been great, if we in NJ had a competent front office. On a side note, Stamkos sure is going to look oh so STUPID when he dons the brutal mustard stained Predators jersey. 😂
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWNWhile I would like to believe that, It does appear Fitz was singularly minded on Markstrom. FITZ blew the midseason trade and circled back to get him in the offseason. It was the only real smoke surrounding a potential NJ goaltender. After all, Fitz could have easily gotten Henrique AND Gibson from Anaheim if he was legitimate about winning.
@@yoholmes273I want nothing to do with that Gibson contract. You’d be paying a worse goaltender, with more term, more money than Markstrom. As for the mid season Markstrom trade, that was shot down by Calgary ownership, not by either GM. You can’t really blame Fitz for that.
The kid is a fool then. He is an unproven commodity. Couldn't even carry the Ads on his back through the playoffs and he wants to jump into the NHL? Please. I've been a STH of the Preds for 24 years, and after seeing a Vezina-winning Pekka and Vezina-nominated Saros, where else would a goalie rather be, especially with Pekka still involved with the organization and Mitch Korn returning to Nashville? If true, it sounds like immaturity and impatience. If he wants to go, then deal him for the right price...a first round pick or another such prospect of equally perceived value. Right now though...strong Brian Finley vibes and now doubting this kid's character and temperament.
I agree Brandon. I'd understand if he had more NHL games under his belt, but 3. He needs to gain more experience and see what happens. The Wedgewood signing is I think what set this all off bc now its at least 2 years before he can be a backup. Great signing with Woody. He played with us and we never got the best of him bc our teams weren't competitive but great add for the Predators. I think this will lead to an Askarov trade and that will be a great return for Nashville
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN I certainly agree...it is a great return for the Preds who just signed a hundred goals this offseason via free agency while still retaining draft capital. If Askarov wants to go then let's add to the latter. However, GMBT was taking calls for him at the deadline and during the draft...none opted to take the chance at the time...likely for the reason you and I outlined above. We'll see.
