This is the film that not only introduced me to the film's of Roman Polanski but also to the amazing beauty of the relented miss Kinski..and I have been of both of them ever since.
Recently watched this movie again after many years,,Still , the most beautiful, sad tragic movie .The part where Angel and Tess, are finally ,and settled for the night in that abandoned house at the end of the film where he is taking off her boot ,and after ,the embrace, as they fall together kissing is the most touching scene of true love that I have ever seen .The lovely music makes it even more poignant
@@derdritte7957 it was different, there have been improvements in technology, camera stabilisation for instance, different lenses, etc but as an art form it doesn't mean that its improved.
@@lw3646 Yes, it was different. But in a way that, I would argue, was even much better. By a long shot, in fact. Today, filmmakers seem to have no idea how to color grade their scenes properly anymore to the point that the gorgeous look from the scene in question here can't be achieved in our century anymore. The change to digital doesn't help either.
The great Geoffrey Unsworth photographed "Tess," with additional photography by Ghislain Clocquet. I was fortunate enough to see the film on the big screen and the photography practically glows. I'm hoping the Bluray edition does it justice.
Nastassja Kinski celebrated her 60th birthday on January 24, 2021. She was born in 1961. She is a German actress and former model who has appeared in more than 60 films in Europe and the United States. Her worldwide breakthrough was with Stay as You Are (1978). She then came to global prominence with her Golden Globe Award-winning performance as the title character in the Roman Polanski-directed film Tess (1979). Other notable films in which she acted include the erotic horror film Cat People (1982), the Wim Wenders dramas Paris, Texas (1984) and Faraway, So Close! (1993), and the biographical drama film An American Rhapsody (2001). Kinski is fluent in four languages: German, English, French and Italian. She is the daughter of German actor Klaus Kinski.
A golden globe award when she was 17 years old when Tess was recorded. A feat in itself. She made the right decision to work wih Polanski, he clearly gave her good direction that helped her to unfold as an actress
Beautiful countryside, but it's definitely not Dorset. Filmed in France, since Polanski would have been extradited to the US had he dared to set foot in Britain. This is a very good film but I don't think it's necessarily the best version. Nastassja's Tess is too passive, and Polanski omitted some key plot elements. Still, not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon. Gorgeous cinematography.
Elfoscuro, yes I know, but the two other versions included these crucial elements, including the fact that Tess and Alec meet up again by fate - he has become a preacher, and is giving a sermon she comes across him by chance. Polanski left that out, criticizing it as "too Victorian" , giving a ridiculous reason of Alec reappearing in Tess's life when her mother wrote to him - after her abandonment by Angel, when she could have written to him when Tess was pregnant.
@@Muirmaiden Polanski dedicated the film to his wife Sharon. She had read the book and thought it was good material for a film. He deviated too much from the book in my opinion.
It had been shown on British TV in the past! I recall seeing it one Christmas! Although it is a film based on a British novel the main actress is German the daughter of Klaus Kinski and the Director is French Roman Polanski I used to love this film as a child!
Я смотрела в Тэсс другую актрису, тоже очень красивую, но она играла гораздо лучше Кински, очень чувственно и профессионально. А Кински здесь холодная и немного наигранная
