My nasturtium plants growing, climbing, and flowering over 3 months. Subject: Tropaeolum majus Timelapse rate: 5 hours per second Music: Night Snow by Asher Fulero (Downloaded from the RU-vid audio library)
@@RobinSpiller haha so since you’re here I might as well tell you how my plants went: They went great!! I planted about 30 seeds in clay soil. They take a while to sprout and once they do they are the most adorable things ever! I suggest poking seeds into the ground and watering them once (unless your soil gets really dry). They taste like watercress and are really healthy, though I suffered from borers and slugs! They still did great though. Some plants did amazing and bloomed all season! I am in Toronto zone 5b. Hope this helps!
I just met Nasturtium for the first time in my life yesterday. The woman at the farmers market who sold it to me told me that every part of the plant is edible. She told me to try a leaf, ok now try a flower and when it is late in the growing season, you can pull up, wash the roots and eat them too!. She taught me all about propagating them from their own seeds (not that they need any help), so when I got home I put my Nasturtium in a giant pot in a full sun and conspicuous place so everyone can enjoy Its beauty. This time lapse video was the first internet search result I stumbled on this morning as I set about learning all about my new friend. Such a beauty and food! Thank you for this beautiful video - put a smile on my face..
I remember growing this just last summer. They were so pretty and colorful that all the neighborhood kids would come to my backyard and even help me water them. This year, I'm bringing it back but I'm gonna put them in a head-shaped plant pot to look like pretty hair.
I love Nasties! I found this video because I was thinking about time-lapsing my garden, too. When those vines get going- they go nuts! Thank you for this beautiful perspective of this living, breathing beauty!
A bit of advice from a fellow garden lover....treat them like climbing roses or peas for beautiful coverage...hanging baskets are also unique and absolutely show stoppers
I've not tried that before but as long as there is decent light I think they would grow OK. I dont think they would climb a tree trunk like ivy, but may climb smaller branches if they come close to the ground
@@TheTimelapseTeam Alright. That might work. One of my trees has about 4 feet between the ground and lower branches. Or there's putting it on an ugly shrub. Thanks.
I know this comment is late, but everything about this video is truly a work of art... From the filming angle to the music that accompanies it. Now I'm inspired to grow these guys! :D
It is beautiful but it makes me want to cry because all the Chemtrails are killing all the plants and the water and the soil and the insects and us. Gardening is getting harder and harder to do with all the poison there spraying down so I feel emotional for both reasons. I love the Flora and Fauna of this Earth I wish men would quit destroying it
Thank you for sharing this video. Before viewing this I purchased these seeds for large pots w a Teepee formed trellis for my front porch. It’s beautiful and amazing to watch this video… Thank You so very much.
I planted these with my morning glories on a whim and forgot all bout them. They completely took over. Not a bad thing, but I was surprised to find not one morning Glory made it.
I had tried several containers of Nasturtiums in zone 8b. I had no luck with them whatsoever. They started out great when I planted them in March and by the time June came around, they produced no blooms and the sunlight was iffy at best. My balcony gets 3-4 hours max of sun. I tried them in full sun and still no blooms. They all just dried up and it was an epic failure. Yours look so amazing. Thanks for sharing
I’m in 8 b as well and I planted mine in the raised beds with vegetables some as companion plants and some as bug deterrents…they did well enough …ate the buds and actually pickled some for capers replacements as well as antibiotic uses for us…so lovely with the flowers in a salad…nebst wishes
Mine were planted in March. It's July now and they never got this big but they are beginning to flower. I'm not the best gardener I don't till the soil I just put a seed in and see what happens.
Hello, this video is amazing, i love it sooo much❤👍 i plant mine since april and now it produce more and more leaves but no flowers, is it advisable to cut some leaves on this plants so it will produce flowers?.,or anything to do?
I just planted some seed for my window boxes. Located south of Paris. I noticed yours dying back in September. Where are you and is that the normal run, June through August?
Just planted my seedlings out along a fence. Very excited to see what they will look like. Do they just cling on to the wires with tendrils or so you need to tie them?
I've never tried to get them to climb high like that so I'm not sure. They usually grow about 3 feet up climb-able structures in my climate (UK). I think you may need to tie them to the arch as they grow to encourage more vertical growth
I'm in Utah. Is it too late to start them this week? I heard they die when hot summer kicks in but I have a part shade fence I can plant them by. Thank you for this. First time in this channel.😊
Hi Claudia. I'm afraid I'm not too sure. Your climate in Utah is so very different from what I'm used to in the rainy UK. Yes I would suspect that they may die in very hot climates in the summer. Welcome to my channel! 🙂
Theres so many plants that would work, pretty much anything that doesn't want to grow huge. As long as the pots are big enough and they are kept watered in the summer. I'm currently growing marigolds and dwarf sunflowers in pots. Growing mixed wildflower seeds in a really big pot cam have lovely results. I'm also growing blueberry bushes in big 30L pots and they are doing great
Hi thank you for your comment. I'm sorry but I cant seem to get a good translation on google for this and I dont speak your language so I'm not sure what your questions is. Could you translate your question to English? Sorry again!
@@TheTimelapseTeam Hi, I speak that language and can translate her query for you. She's saying that some of her nasturtium plants have dried up after being brought from the nursery. She's asking for your advice on what she should do.
Hi Sehjin, thank you for translating thats amazing! I think the best thing to do would be to give them a really good watering and then plant out in the garden once they show signs of recovery. I hope its not too late, and I wish her the best of luck!
^^ Thanks, I'll translate your answer for her now! @Rashmi Ray, aap plants ko achche se paani de, aur jab woh theek ho jaye tab unhe garden mein plant karein. @TimelapseTeam ne aapko best of luck wish kiya hai.
Yes in my experience they self seed very well. I've got a whole bed of them coming up again in the location that video was shot and I did nothing at all other than removing weeds this year
