pamela, perfect description of the original dress: " the original looks like literal silver flower petals hanging off of that woman. absolutely stunning." Thank you!
Omg I was shocked how gorgeous that “older” dress was. It held a secret because it looked so much better than Natalie Portman’s dress. I don’t blame her for wanting one inspired by it. But the original was jaw dropping!
I agree, and since that was the year I was born, it makes it even better. Yep, I'm 74 years young. I miss the elegance in the 'Hollywood' displays. It seems so many of the actresses, models, feel the need to show off their naked body parts. Truthfully, they need to keep it covered, it's not as great as they think it is. Leave something to wonder about. That intrigues a man much more than laying it all out there for the whole world to see. Your body should be an intimate thing to behold, kept private behind closed doors.
The original is stunning yes. But let’s be thankful she didn’t pull a Kim k and ruin a piece of history. The new one isn’t a bad take on the gown at all however.
Well one is in favourable lighting and in video form. The other is just a picture in full bright light. So you can't see how possibly shiny and reflective it was
2023 was good but 1949 was STUNNING, MOUTH DROPPING, AND SHOW STOPPING. Just down right gorgeous, elegant, and like it was made from a whole nother universe 😍
Doubt. more like dior wouldn't let anyone destroy their archived stuff. They still draw from the original garments heavily in the modern fashion shows and silhouettes. Whereas Monroe's dress was owned by a private collector, who seemed happy to make some money off of one piece so they can better preserve their other items in the private collection. No shade on anyone in particular but if we know one thing about most of the celebrities, its they are pretty narcissistic. You have to be to make it in the industry. If she had the option to wear the original, I doubt she would have stopped to think about the implications of it. More like she didn't have the option.
@@veilbreak5867she’s respectful because she’s respecting the history of the dress not only by not wearing the original but basing her dress off of it. Most celebs js come in whatever bin bags they can find.
agree it's much more decorated and flowy, but I'm glad she wore a recreation because wearing the actual would be to damage a piece of art history from the met
I agree although I do wonder how much the visual of the dress is impacted by the lighting and the cameras used to film each instance the dress was worn.
A real class woman who understands the value of precious original and keeps it preserved for the future and wears the beautifully done replica of the historical dress. And I thought I couldn’t love Portman more already ❤
👍 agreed. Natalie's dress is very pretty, but the original is just chefs' kiss 💋🤌👋 😘. It's absolutely stunning. The fact that it sparkles like that in a movie from back in the 40-50's is just absolutely amazing. 👏
Natalie’s recreation is beautiful but the original is breathtaking!!! The original just looks so elegant and flowy!! Like silver flower petals gracefully layin on the fabric. It’s a beautiful piece! I would love to see a recreation of the exact dress!
In 18th century France this was called Tambour embroidery. In India, where it originated in the 17th century, Aari embroidery. It uses a special hook and you work from behind or under the frame the fabric is assembled on, typically silk. It’s tedious to say the least because every bead and sequin is strung onto the hook and sewn on. I saw a tutorial on it on RU-vid. She gave the background of the technique and specifically talked about this dress! It was exciting to see it recreated, although I agree it’s more stunning on the gray/silver silk! The original is in a museum.
I agree I think the colors from bottom to top top to bottom blend better with the original then with the new stylized version both are beautiful, but the original surpasses the most recent
The original dress is beyond stunning and innovative for it’s time with the beading . Natalie’s dress is gorgeous as well but the original is just ethereal ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's amazing to me how you can intimidate people you don't even know. If you have to make a page on this platform to insult me, you're clearly a hater. And yes, I am your Queen 👑, thanks for noticing. 🖕
Oh my!!!! How I lov-e a beautiful dress. I often find mysepf watching the old 1920s to 1960s movies just to see what the ladies back then were wearing. Never disappoints!!!
@@RoseLeThey could've made an exact same replica while leaving the original dress untouched. That what the original plan for kim as well, but she felt her relevance slipping so staged the stunt with marilyn's dress to make noise.
natalie portman is otherworldly beautiful. her face is so sharp and angular but somehow still so soft and dainty at the same time. she only seems to get more beautiful with time
It’s amazing how designers can almost duplicate the old dresses in a different, much lighter material than previously used. The way they work with materials they never would have imagined using back then…is so neat.
With the way the original and new one drapes (or not, in the case of replica 😂) on the body, it seems like the newer one is made from heavier material than the original.
Lol do you sew or make any clothes? If you do you would know the original is much better more luxurious fabric that flows and drapes better. One Nathalie is wearing looks like cheap thick polyester or blend of cotton and synthetics. It’s really badly reproduced. Beading work is terrible on the replica, the original has much finer detailed work and looks like silk organza.
@@KittenBowl1agreed!!! The replica looks so heavy and the scallops just bounce up and down. The original, however, has the appearance of almost being weightless and floating. The replica, sad to say, looks like a mid-grade prom dress from Macy’s-which is a shame because you just know it cost a small fortune. The original is absolutely exquisite! I have to wonder if Natalie wanted it changed to look this way or if the designer took their own creative liberties while designing the dress.
@@KittenBowl1 I agree…I believe the original has much more authentic, heavier, more durable material. Natalie’s dress is beautiful, but more light weight material. They tried to make the dress appear to look the same. Rather than actually recreating it. I do not sew, although my mother and best friend’s mother did my entire childhood. I spent alot of time in the fabric stores growing up.
@@misfitmuggle I feel like Natalie’s dress is makes from a much lighter material. They original has much heavier and thicker material. It has heavy sequins or rhinestones trimming it. They both are beautiful in my opinion
Both are absolutely stunning! But the way she is working the original got me. That is jaw dropping gorgeous! I can definitely see why Natalie Portman would want a dress like that. I want it now too.
