This is a look back on Nate Thurmonds Hall of Fame career. Nate Thurmond will be remembered for his defense first and foremost being almost perfectly made for basketball. Going down as one of the best defenders of all time. Utlizing his size, speed, strength, and IQ. Helping himself become a 7x all star and make 5 all defensive team. While also rebounding the ball at a high rate. Going down as one of the leagues best rebounders holding the record for most rebounds in a quarter. And being one of 5 players ever to average at least 15 rebounds per game for his career. One of five players in NBA history to average at least 20 rebounds per game during a season. One of four players in NBA history to record 40 or more rebounds in a game. Those weren’t the only record Thurmond holds as he became the first player in NBA history to record a quadruple double which only 3 other players have ever done. Despite all the accomplishment he slips the mind when people think of great bigs as he fell just short multiple times on winning an NBA title. But he will forever be remembered as one of the best players in the league with the Warriors and his everlasting impact on the Cavaliers organization being the spark for the Miracle of Richfield.

Nate Thurman is one of those 6 foot plumbers that Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain played against. That's the lie the young generation tells.

Nate Turmon was supposed to be the Center addition to my beloved 1970s Chicago Bulls to put us over the top - to have a great or very, very good center Like Kereem , Wilt or Bob Lanier... we were always trying to replace our big a big slow, didn't jump or dunk White center Tom Borwinkle. But for some reason Nate Thurmon didn't work out. Tom Borwinkle stayed around a long time and was a good backup to Artis Gilmore. Sure, Tom B didn't dunk even though he was 7 ft tall, but he was a great passer and solid defender. Our Bulls had great defense in the 1970s with Jerry Sloan, Norm Van Lier, Bob Love, Borwinkle all he Dick Motta teams played good defense.

Glad you mentioned that Nate the Great officially recorded the first quadurple double in NBA history and one of his later life interviews Thurmond admitted that he wouldn't be the first if blocks counted before the 1973-74 season which the honor should have been either Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain. Had the league track down blocks for the first 10 years of his career, Thurmond would have been third all-time career block shots leader behind Chamberlain and Russell, but ahead of Kareem unofficially while the official all-time career block shots leader Olajuwon would be drop to 5th to 8th all-time unofficially. Keep it up.

These stats are not valid because a lot of Wilt and Russell stats wasn't documented
@markjackson6431

Wilt’s stats and Russell’s stats not being counted doesn’t invalidate Thurmond’s stats. when he was comparable to BOTH of them in terms of rebounding, shot blocking, and overall defensive impact. Thurmond gave trouble to both Wilt and Kareem and both of them freely admit that.
