You can the hear the commentator say “passive offered” then says “passive confirmed” meaning the ref offers passive toward a certain wrestler and the chair official can white paddle it/deny or “confirm” the offer. I’m not certain the confirmation goes through 2 officials. Just trying to be helpful!

The shot clock is needed, influences offense. If the shot clock was a thing in Folkstyle maybe Dean Heil wouldn’t have got away with a lot of stuff

I think you need a shot clock. Defense in wrestling gives you the most advantage with many more options than offense. This is especially true in freestyle. So wrestling conservative is the most consistent way to win. It ends up with two guys just sitting walled up and no one opens up to risk. If they are relatively evenly skilled literally the match will almost always end in a tie over and over. The shot clock promotes action regardless of if the other guy gets to stall. They were both stalling to cause the shot clock in the first place. The other guy just made a more convincing argument with his actions.

@@ushift I agree with most of what you said, but disagree about the necessity of the shot clock. Wouldn't a sudden death overtime accomplish the same thing without leaving up to a biased referee? I'm not saying the refs are intentionally biased, but everyone is biased in some form or another. The more you can leave up to the athletes the better. With push outs being a scoring technique in freestyle, even 2 evenly matched defensive wrestlers should be able to score without the match dragging on for extended periods of time

Ref makes the call, if you aren't controlling the center, if you are mostly defending and if you aren't coming forward. They are kind of a 1:1 if one person gets passivity the other wrestler is usually next. They are very debatable and usually argued by everyone but they are only needed when wrestlers are taking half shots and circling or just hand fighting. The better wrestler usually wins either way.

i love folkstyle but think freestyle is pretty lame, and i think the passivity calls are one of the reasons i don't enjoy freestyle more.

They have taken control of the match away from the wrestlers, and given the refs the ability to determine the outcome whenever they want. It is abused, it is applied illogically, it is forcing the sport to a place where it is no longer a competition. It is an exhibition, the result decided by judges, a la gymnastics and figure skating. It is the difference between refs being objective and them being the sole deciders of many matches. Defense is no longer a value, as it is not entertaining enough for people that have no idea what they are looking at. Real competitors know that the score is what makes things exciting. A 0-0 match with 20 seconds left to determine the match is as exciting as it gets, one mistake and you are toast. This sport comes from the tradition of physical combat, where defense is just as important as offense. The NBA, NFL, I could go on and on. They are taking the toughness out of it, and changing the game for TV, like all the rest, diluting it, giving the ignorant fan what he wants at the expense of grit and determination. There was a time when the best wrestlers were not necessarily the best athletes. They are trying to eliminate the guy that figures out how to beat the best athletes by being tougher and smarter, and making it more of a sport where your natural ability becomes a greater asset, and your mind becomes less so. The guy who works the ref better wins. Since when should the refs feelings be something that becomes front and center in determining a winner? They are rewarding the best actors, stealing the focus of the wrestlers from their opponent, and forcing competitors to think about what the ref likes or dislikes. Who gives a shit what the ref likes? He is supposed to be there to judge when points are scored by the athletes, stop dangerous positions and illegal holds, and be an impartial decider of facts, not an arbiter of entertainment value. The refs now are in a position that they have to get involved, whether they want to or not, and now the refs have to live with second guessing themselves, making snap decisions about who deserves to win, and living with the result that they ended someones career because they decided that they were not entertaining enough, and carrying that decision with them for the rest of their lives. Good refs want no part of that situation, yet they have no choice now. He is now part of the match, a factor in his own right, with unlimited power to steal the match from one competitor, and give it to the other. Can you say NBA? It is disgusting. I know EXACTLY what I am looking at, and the way the rules have changed in the last two styles are disgusting and disheartening. You wonder why casual fans are confused? You wonder why wrestlers and announcers are constantly calling out officiating? The sport has lost it's way here, giving the power of life and death to the officials. It has become confusing, unfair, and impossible to watch. Disgusting. It has worked it's way into folkstyle as well, high school officiating has become arrogant and hyper-sensitive, and in response, they give ridiculously bad referees MORE power in determining a winner, and will not even discuss calls with coaches anymore. WRONG DIRECTION, heading for the abyss.

He's from Jersey - with a name like Ralphie, you may know that. Used to like to watch the South Jersey car dealer promos at the inlaws when we went there (philly stations). The car dealers were some of the brownest people I've ever seen, except for the contrasting gold. "Three free TVs with each new car!!!"

He was put on the clock and then proceeded to score the only takedown of the match. Suriano has great defense and capitalizes off mistakes. Nate didn't make any mistakes and Suriano didn't go get it. Zero points, not even a push out.

Y'all can stay what ever you want about Nick but he was a four-time undefeated state champion in New Jersey where's there's only one state champion he already has a 1 national championship and he's a two-time finalist in two different weights I got news for you he's going to win another national championship this year 2time NCAA champion and 3 time finalist when it's all said and done And in 4 years from now will probably win the Olympics so haters can just hate on him And he admitted he's a better folk style wrestler than freestyle freestyle wrestling don't transfer over to f****** fighting and MMA folk style does because you have to have the ability to hold somebody down and not get held down that being said in 4 years from now I hope you're the best wrestler in his weight in freestyle make the Olympic team and probably win the f****** gold medal

nah it seemed more like hes trying to get his head in position quickly but missed the timing. he immediately shows respect afterwards too. surianos confidence is definitely sky high rn tho and this loss is only going to make him work twice as hard.
