The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has shown the population of Nigeria's multidimensional poor people. Nigeria has 133million multidimensional poor people according to NBS. NBS has also broken down the 133million multidimensional poor Nigerians into geopolitical zones. The NBS has shown that North West has the highest number of multidimensional poor Nigerians with 40.5million; followed by North East, 20.5million; North Central, 20.2million; South-South, 19.7million; South West, 16.3million and South East, 10.9million.
Why does the South East, the heartland of the Igbo people of Nigeria, the most marginalized zone in the Nigerian federation, have the lowest poverty rate in Nigeria? This zone has never produced a president since 1999, when Nigeria returned to democratic rules after years of military dictatorship. In this video, I will attempt an explanation of why the South East has the lowest poverty rate in Nigeria.

Why would South East have up to 10 million people living in poverty? Honestly, it is absurd. The govt and our people must do better. The number is huge. Forget that their figure is smaller than the other regions mentioned here, yet, it is nothing to be proud of.

Thank you for doing a good analysis on this subject. The problem with the majority of the other ethnic groups is that they don’t want to compete which is one of the attributes of the Easterners. They would rather try to pull them back and in the process they forget that if the south easterners do well, it is a win win situation for Nigeria. Keep up the good work

SOUTH WEST has more people living in their areas. Over 50 million people live in the South west, compared to 25-34 Million in the south east Hence why south east has 10 million poverty, vs the 16 million in poverty in the South West; it has to do with population size . However when you look at poverty rates for each state, SOUTH WEST, NOT THE SOUTH EAST, has the lowest poverty rates in Nigeria. What happen to peoples brains😂

They have the lowest poverty rate because half of the population of Igbos are living in Southwest, and the Northern states are putting pressure on the food and the infrastructural facilities of those regions. The reverse would be the case if the Igbos stayed in their regions... there is no gainsaying that the price of foods would be expensive and poverty will likely increase too.

It's difficult for most of you to do without hate bias. You just thinking bigotry will bring some benefits to you. With fuel costing as higher as a thousand naira per liter, 133million will be a child's play and be ready again to blame southeasterners. Banditry, herdsmen and Boko Haram, governance failures have continued to fuel food inflation and poverty. It's childish to think that only Yoruba residing in south west will eliminate poverty is a deception of an idle mind. Population naturally should provoke increased economic activities.

And according to you bizarre thought process those Ibos in the North and West are not economically productive but depend on state handouts. Some of you are blinded by bigotry to the point of absurdity. Be informed that Ibos will NEVER stay in their region until Nigeria is dissolved. Therefore poverty rate in Iboland will remain low. You now have the option to sit in your dingy Ayetoro batcher and eat your heart out or go to other regions, use your own skills set and earn an honest living thereby reducing poverty rate in your region according to your logic.
