Side note: the actress that played Aunt Bethany, Mae Questel, was a very successful voice actress. She provided the voices for Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.

The guy who plays Clark's boss is Bill Murray's older brother and the child actor who plays Clark's son is Leonard from The Big Bang Theory

This is one of those movies that gets better every year. As we grow up we identify with Clark more and more.

It's not just you guys, Eddie breaking the windmill thing instantly is the funniest part of the movie.

The creation of Cinema Rules was one of the few happy highlights of 2020. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

This is one of those movies that if it's on tv while I'm switching through channels I'll stop and watch it until the end.

Whenever people watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation for the first time and like it, it warms my heart. Doubly so if they're from another country.

The opening of this movie where they go to get the tree always cracks me up as they drive through a scenic mountain landscape to go buy a tree. These people are supposed to live in Chicago you'd have to drive 100s of miles away before you see anything but FLAT.

My favorite part of the movie is when he's in the attic and he's stepping on all the boards. It's so stupid but makes me laugh every time. The way there's a pause and you think it's over and he lands on the third one.

That's a middle class to upper middle class house, depending on location.

In the Midwest it is pretty easy to afford a house that size or larger for a middle class person. Especially when this movie was made. Fun fact: the boss is played by Bill Murray's brother.

Take these films for what they are, pure laughs for adults. All of the Lamppons are worth a go. Have a good Christmas all!

My Family and I have watched Christmas Vacation every year for 20 plus years as a family holiday tradition. I love this movie.

Every Christmas we watch A Christmas Story (1950’s USA), Christmas Vacation, and Elf. They always make us laugh 😄

Most of those American houses are made from wood not brick, that's why they are so big, because you get more for the money. A 200k British house would buy you a HUGE American wooden house

You guys nailed it. Most people here in the U.S. do not usually have homes this huge. The exterior shots were on a back lot at the WB studio, in a fake house, and some of the interior shots were either inside the back lot house, or more often than not, inside a sound stage.

Christmas Vacation is probably one of the greatest comedy films of all time in my opinion. Now that you've watched this one though you have to go back and watch the first one. Vacation and Christmas Vacation are pretty close in terms of hilarity but I couldn't choose which is better. European Vacation is good but very different in terms of the comedic tone as it feels more like....well....a European comedy. Vegas Vacation is good just not nearly as good as the original or Christmas but I do like it better than European. Hope you guys get around to watching the first one eventually and love the content as usual!

Eddie is Clark's cousin by marriage. He was in the first Vacation movie.

This movie is very, very special to me. My grandfather used to watch this anytime he wanted, even in July. Also being from Illinois it has a closer to home feeling than other Christmas films.

Loved watching this movie - it was one of the funniest and laughed my ass off!!! Funny story someone actually did a Christmas house display . From this movie they put a ladder against their roof . Then put a domy next to it hanging from the gutter. After 911 was called out a couple of times. They finally put a sign in front explaining . It was was a scene from this movie it made . The news an everything .

The house that Clark lived in was upper middle class, not exactly rich. There is an on-going theme regarding Catherine and Eddie, throughout all of the Vacation series of films. Eddie is not an Uncle to Clark, he is the cousin of Ellen. The lady that played Aunt Bethany, is the original voice of Betty Boop.

What's really FUNNY!!! Is when Clark is stuck in the attic and he falls through the ceiling.... why didn't he just crawl through the hole to escape the attic?? LOL!!

I don’t get people who leap frog over the first 2 Vacation movies. Their first stop is the UK in the second film. Definitely, like to see you two react to both films. Curious to see if you recognize the British comedians in European Vacation.

Loved your reactions! Just to shed a little light, the American economy peaked in the mid to late 80's, and unfortunately, many houses and characters were portrayed as rich or at least very well off. But I can confirm that the average american did not have a house that large. I graduated high school, class of 89, and graduated college in 93, just when the economy was starting to plummet. The economy is much worse now in 2020, and yeah, it seems a little silly to stress over something as luxurious as a pool, but it really is a reflection of what time was like when this was made in 88/89. Of course, many of us other Americans live like "Cousin Eddy", on the brink of poverty. The next door snobby neighbors were what we call "Yuppies". My favorite moment: Great Aunt Bethany saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and then singing the National Anthem, ending it with, "Play Ball!".

Loved this reaction video. (A year too late, glad I found it.) Btw, home sizes in the USA vary greatly. I live in a typical middle income suburban community in the US and homes here are as large (or larger) as the main home featured in this film! It’s a pretty standard-sized home in suburban America, at least where I grew up and where I live now. It’s really interesting watching foreigners critique US films-a lot of the classic 80s and 90s American movies really do encapsulate what it was like growing up then in the States. Those films are hugely nostalgic for us. Great video, thanks!

This film is great. I remember the first time I watched this film was on VHS with my family. When he went sledding and shot down the hill, we all lost our minds. Rewound to it over and over. Good times.

That house probably wasn't that crazy in the 80s. I remember my childhood house, it was big, 3 floors and sold for 160k cad around 2000. Right now, its probably worth closer to 300k+. The prices keep increasing on the long term.

I think you have to realize that Clark Griswold is a satirical representation of the typical bumbling middle class dad. The National Lampoon magazine and movies are basically Americans making fun of ourselves. You absolutely have to watch the first and best movie, National Lampoon’s Vacation. That’s a childhood favorite for most of us. European Vacation is generally considered the worst one but it has some very funny moments particularly Eric Idle’s cameo when they’re in London.

One of the main reasons people in these movies live in big houses is just because it's easier to shoot in. You have the cast, crew and camera angles to deal with and it's just much easier if the house is bigger.

Now this movie is funny. It's hilarious as hell with Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase. By the way merry Christmas to the both of you and keep me laughing. A great Christmas gift. And here's one for your stocking, don't forget to review Lady in a cage with Olivia de Havilland and James Caan, a really great movie. Happy Halloween boys🎃🎅🍺🍺

Fun fact: Aunt Bethany was the voice of Olive Oyle in the Popeye cartoons. And also the voice of Popeye in one because the real voice of Popeye was on military service.

I like the first 3 Vacation films a lot. European Vacation is probably my favorite, mostly because of nostalgia since it's the one I watched the most as a kid.
