One of my favorite themes, is how Rusty is always right near Clarke. Clarke always calls his name and he is like literally behind him. The part in this where he walks up right next to his dad, and Chevy Chase face is just priceless in that scene.

I've actually been to a Christmas tree farm where a few people had clearly Griswold'ed a tree out (root ball and all) and left 3' deep, 4' wide _craters_ in the ground. Dad tripped and fell in one; it was hilarious. All Mom and I heard from around another tree was "Oh, no!" *THUNK!!* 🤣🤣🤣

A moment I really liked was when as soon as the boss said he retracted all the Christmas bonuses, the chief of police chewed him out on it, despite being the one held hostage. Even his wife. Like: "You did what ? No wonder these people kidnapped you".

I think what makes this one so much more rewatchable than any other Vacation movie, is the Christmas aspect. It just nails the winter vibes and you can put it on every Christmas.

Also, and maybe it's just me and juxtaposing this reaction vid of the Wally World Vacation film, but Clark comes off as *wayyy* more likeable in Christmas Vacation than in any other National Lampoon film and especially the first. He's still Clark Griswold, bumbling hornball family man, but he's far less outwardly meanspirited and not nearly as...problematic, for lack of a better term. I mean, in the first film, a side plot is him actively attempting to cheat on his wife, not to mention stashing a dead body outside of a family member's house while they're away or actively holding a man at gunpoint when he has his "snapped" moment. And maybe that would be to a similar story's detriment, not going full bore on Clark's fuckery, but it works perfectly here and he feels way more relatable.

The reason Lewis was able to burn down Clark's tree inside the house so easily was because it was dried out. They foreshadowed this earlier when they showed Snots drinking the tree water, and Clark mentioned the tree will dry out if he kept doing that.

Fun fact: the scene where Clark (Chevy Chase) punches the plastic Santa/reindeer, he punched it so hard, he broke his pinkie, so the rest of the scene where he kicks the display and chops off the antlers is all improvised

This is one of my two favorite Chevy Chase films the other being "Spies Like Us" with Dan Akkroyd. Clark having a meltdown and going "Hallelujiah! holy sh*t!....where's the Tylenol....?" always makes me laugh most.

This is one movie I watch every Christmastime. It is a great comedy, but it is even more of a Christmas movie. The Christmas part of the movie is entirely sincere. Though few families will ever have things go as crazy to the extent that the Griswold's do, we can all relate to the craziness, bad turns, family drama, and high expectations of a family Christmas. At least, when I was growing up, we could. My mom even called my dad "Sparky" when I was a kid.

This movie is a mainstay of my family. Anytime my dad wanted to do a big decoration scene for christmas or w/e it was always called a Griswold moment, especially if things went wrong. We even went on vacation one year to Florida and tooka a day trip to a water park, only for it to be closed in July. We fondly remember this event as the Wally World fiasco.

For my family it was the tree, we had a vaulted sunroom with a 14 foot ceiling, and every year my Mom would have us cram a 16-18 foot tree in there, which we called the Griswold family tree.

This film is SO FULL of stars from other shows and movies. You guys caught Julia Louis-Dreyfuss from "Seinfeld" and "Veep." There's also Doris Roberts (Marie from "Everybody Loves Raymond"), Johnny Galecki (Leonard from "The Big Bang Theory"), Brian Doyle-Murray (from basically every movie his brother Bill Murray ever made), and Mae Questel (Aunt Bethany) was the original voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.

You were talking about Eddie. He was wearing a 'dickie'. Which is basically only the turtleneck part of a turtleneck sweater with a little bit of front and back to remain in place. You wear it under a thinner vest or sweater so you can look 'neat' without having to wear two actual layers of clothing. Of course... this doesn't work when you wear a deep black dickie and a thin white vest...

The whole bit with the neighbors Is always hilarious. Funny there actually was a filmed final bit as a post credit scene where Julia Louis dreyfuss character reconciled with the guy and there in bed trying to look on the bright side of things and hearing jingle bells they think if I remember singing Santa claus Is coming to town. Then the santa claus and reindeer ornament that flew crash into there bed.

Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie with A Christmas Story being a very close second. While A Christmas Story appeals to the kid side of me around the holiday season and the memories of waiting for Christmas when I was a kid, Christmas Vacation appeals to the adult side of me with making sure the decorations are up, presents are wrapped, food gets made, etc. and trying to make sure that everything goes smoothly.

It’s also right of passage for any new member of the family, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wife’s etc… If they don’t like it, they’re out! 😂 Also, it’s great to see how Russ made a success of his life going on to become a brilliant Physicist, only 2nd to his best friend, the greatest physicist ever, Sheldon! 😂👍🏼

Apparently the shooting script called for the Santa and reindeer seen shooting off in the sky at the end to eventually land in the neighbors' bedroom just after telling each other "he's had his Christmas, it's over and we made it." Not sure if it was shot or not or if there's footage out there but that's what was intended; would have been hilarious

Clark got the tree out of the ground with a shovel. He bought it for a ridiculous amount of money from the tree farm owner in a deleted scene that has been lost to time.
