National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation:
As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. His hick cousin, Eddie (Randy Quaid), and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark's employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is a 1989 American Christmas comedy film, the third installment in National Lampoon magazine's Vacation film series. Christmas Vacation was directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik, written by John Hughes, and starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid with supporting roles by Miriam Flynn, William Hickey, Mae Questel, Diane Ladd, John Randolph, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, Juliette Lewis, and Johnny Galecki, and special appearances by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Nicholas Guest, Ellen Hamilton Latzen, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Natalia Nogulich. Based on Hughes' short story Christmas '59 which was published in National Lampoon, it tells the story of the Griswold family spending Christmas vacation at home with their Christmas festivities being attended by their relatives as Christmas hi-jinks occur.

2:04 - When they made the 2nd film (European Vacation) Anthony Michael Hall had a scheduling conflict (he was making either Breakfast Club or Weird Science) so they recast Rusty and Audrey. It became a tradition with the series (Vegas Vacation even makes a joke about the constant recasting). No actors played the kids more than once. 17:49 - Something I find hilarious about this scene that so many people don't seem to notice: Clark puts some lightbulbs in the cart and Eddie immediately crushes them with a bag of dog food.

I picked up the light bulb thing for the first time a couple years ago. There are so many throwaway jokes in this movie and I love them all. Another one I like is at 14:30, where just about all of the presents on the table behind Clark are the exact same size and shape of his gift, suggesting all the mid level employees buy Mr. Shirley the same thing for Christmas.

12:39 Chevy Chase actually broke his pinky when he punched the Santa decoration. Him kicking the rest of the reindeer decorations was really him kicking in pain. And that's the actual take you see in the movie. :) Also, Aunt Bethany was played by Mae Questal, who provided the voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl back in the 1930s cartoon era. May God rest her soul. :)❤💖

I'm guessing you're joking.. Cause Johnny Galecki is playing Rusty. He's referred to by name several times. The only time "is Rusty still in the navy?" Is brought up by Aunt Bethany who is clearly senile. She 1. Makes jello with cat food, 2. Wraps her cat as a Christmas present and 3. Breaks into the national anthem at the end of the movie . "Play ball". 4. Asks when they moved to Florida, 5. Asks if Clark and Ellen are "still dating"?

20:06 I haven't put up an Xmas tree in 3 years because the last one I had, my siamese cat chewed through the power cord of the lights. They weren't plugged in at the time, so she was fine. But it ruined the lights....and about 6 android charge cables....and my 3DS power cable, and the WiiU cable. and probably some others I haven't found yet. She's a fucking menace. All the National Lampoon Vacation movies have different actors playing the kids and in case you didn't notice, the kid playing Rusty grew up to first be David on Roseanne, then later became Leonard on The Big Bang Theory. Also of note, the man on the cover of People magazine Clark is reading at the beginning is (the snobby neighbor/Elaine from Seinfeld,) Julia Louis-Dreyfus's actual father, billionaire business mogul, William Louis-Dreyfus.

For real though, am I the only one who felt bad for the squirrel? Picture this: you’re a cute fluffy squirrel and you’re settled in your comfy tree home after spending weeks storing your acorns and nuts for the winter. You’re about to go to sleep and BAM! A nut case with a chainsaw cuts down your home and brings it in a bright loud place and suddenly you’re chased by screaming people and a snarling snot-dripping dog; wouldn’t you be terrified?! But seriously, I love this movie.

The swapping of kids was a bit of a joke after they couldn't get both for the second movie. They decided to go all over the place with them. The scene with Clark in the turban and gloves watching movies is a callback to the character Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. She was an crazy old silent film star who nightly watched her own movies.

The kids are cast differently in each movie. Mainly that's because of the time frame between the movies. The kids got older, as kids do. The stories themselves, In the "vacation" universe take place like very close in time frame to one another.

I think the movie pulls a stronger punch when you see it as a kid. I agree that the 1st one is better, but I don't think by much, this one I think has a TON of little things that grow with you as you grow (I could just be speaking for me though, I saw it at 12 & it's been a staple perched in my top 3 favorite Chirstmas movies ever since). I will add though that it's only in the last 15-20 years that Christmas sequals have been the cash grab because every Christmas movie wasn't Home Alone, Christmas Story (which I recommend if you haven't seen it, but I'd be shocked if you or anyone hasn't seen it) was a flop when it came out, same for It's a wonderful life, truth Is Christmas movies famously did better on home video & broadcast airings on TV & Cable than they did in theaters, this really was a good hearted take on what a Griswald Christmas would look like, and in that sense it really stands on it's own away from the rest, it's the only movie we're getting a sense of what The Griswalds are like in their own environment, I LOVE that the neighbors hate them because with how Clark is how could you live near him & not? LOL. Overall I think this franchise is pretty solid (the 1st 1 & this one are EASILY the best, like TOP tier. Part 2 is what i'd give a B-/C+ to, but Vegas Vacation & the Sequel/Remake one are easily D's at best for me), but I think the kids being different in each movie but Clark & Ellen being the same is the interesting mix of, yes this is a continuation of the Griswalds, but it's also very much it's own version, like I love that there's no direct callbacks to any of the previous movies, however it's all in the details. Just my 2 cents, Im glad you loved it though, I love your reaction & can't wait for you to watch more!

Absolutely love your reactions! The daughter - Juliette Lewis was in a lot of films, including Natural Born killers and The son- Johnny Gallecci was in Roseanne (David) and played Leonard in The Big Bang Theory. Definitely check out Birdemic and The Room..

The first movie is better, but this one is still really great. It relies a lot on those little moments that everyone recognizes from the Holidays, family squabbles, mindlessly watching a Christmas special, the old people sleeping on the cough, and so on.
