I think it’s awesome and righteous to hand in item to the museum ❤good job saving history. Some of the items have been waiting 4000 years two more is nothing 😊
Just stumbled across your channel. Thoroughly enjoyed watching - thank you so much … 😁 I have lived in Australia for decades, and although UK born and bred, I have many happy memories of time spent in Scotland visiting my Uncle Jock and Aunty Aileen. You sound very much like my uncle … 😁 so nice to hear that lovely accent … subscribed 😜
I just want to say thank you…I’m watching from the USA 🇺🇸 and I’m able to see so much history through your channel John that I truly feel blessed. This world of ours really isn’t so big, ya know? 🥰✌️🤍
I'm British and thought I knew an awful lot of our history, how very wrong I was! I've learned so much from John, I visit Scotland regularly as my daughter lives near Glasgow, I try and visit as many places as I can, Stirling Castle is next on my list! Love Chez in Lliria, Valencia Spain 😘
I have noticed when I am out n about in the woods, that our climate near Pittsburgh, is right on time with Scotlands. The same flowers and mushrooms bloom at the same time. I used to watch a girl who went on walks around Scotland, took photos, and came home and painted them. I don't believe her channel is any longer active as she moved across Scotland. But I also photograph and paint flowers, bugs, mushrooms, ect that I find here. And low and behold every time she would be painting the same object as me the following week. I imagine it took her about a week to get the painting done and the video uploaded so that would make it the same time they popped up here. I plan on going to Scotland in 2025 or 2026, and hope to be able to confirm my suspicions. So you are absolutely right.. it is a Small world. Take care.
Thanks for the update John and I am really happy your detector is ok. I just love watching this channel and the stories you give us with the finds. Hope to see something on your other channel too Scottish Tours. The museum is amazing and beautiful. Thanks for sharing and hello from Don In Ohio.
Brilliant video pal that bull almost looks Egyptian in stature don’t you think? Also us Scot’s like to call the glitch ‘a brain fart’ 😂 technology seems to do this once in a while. All the very best 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴
Hi John, thank you so much for this wonderful, informative vid, I was enthralled the whole time, didn't want it to end, you're looking young and healthy, that museum is stunning for its architecture and exhibits, you could wander around for days and still not see enough, the Scots are very lucky to have it, bye and thanks again, cheers!!🥰💕👌👍👍👍
Wow what a great trip to the museum! U lucky man. And Albert... Well . 😂 Anyway when you showed that little silver button the other day, I was really meaning to get on and tell you (except I was somehow unsubscribed) it's the exact correct size and shape for half a colonial era (in the USA) cuff link. They're always an oval shape rather than circular, and have somewhat of a shank on the back that is more like a glass button than a tomback or dandy style shank. This is where the u shaped link clipped in from either side of the u shape. There would be 3 or so small links between 2 identical pieces where you slip them in the button holes on your shirt cuff. Great find, silver and it broke the dry spell, so can't beat that. I apologize for not answering back on tictoc, I only have it on my Chromebook and my boyfriend's computer blew up. So he has had it and I haven't been able to get on. I did receive notification in email that you responded but I can not answer back that way, and I refuse to load It on my phones that have my banking aps. We've had a lot of issues here in the USA from the Chinese platform, and there's currently a bill to be passed that bans tictoc in the USA. So since I am a part time employee of the u.s. department of commerce I am forbidden to have it on my devices. 😅 Anyway, awesome finds.. can't wait to hear more about that fish! And what did they say, if anything, about that holy Grail.. or the dram that was found on the gallows site? Been wondering about those as well. And to be clear, did they take the items now, or do u take them back in 2 years when they're ready to go in front of the panel? 😅It is quite slow, but I imagine they get loads of artifacts being as the UK has so much history, and mudlarking and detecting are so prevalent there. So, understandable. Sad sad day when you broke your shaft too. Boy that sounds awkward, uh, well.😅 Anywho you know what I mean I hope. Thanks for another great video, and take care. I will get back with you on tictoc as soon as I'm able to get my laptop back. Happy Valentine's as well. And please remind your subscribers that RU-vid seems to be unsubscribing people again. It's happened to me 8 times on different channels the past 3 years. Crazy I know. Have a good day. "Sass" Aka Glenna
Sounds like Australia Post has a competitor. Lol. So glad everything goes to the museum. If I ever get to Scotland I will definitely visit the museum. Love the kitty
Well done John, great that you are reporting the appropriate finds, as should all who detect. Your fish reminds me of other Roman depictions of fish, with it's stylised shape and thick lips. Look forward to finding out what the experts say. It's a pity the Museum hasn't allowed you to film this time, the first time you did this was remarkably watchable, and memorable! Yes, I do understand the decision, but I think they are missing a PR trick there and increasing the distance between academia and the general public. Just my opinion. Ah well, there you are. You're doing a great job on this channel, more power to you.
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee. Thanks for the updates. Perhaps, when your DEUSII was acting up…maybe you were near an overhead high voltage wire system…hmmmm. Tech stuff…sometimes they are wonky and sometimes they break. Oh well. Thanks, my friend, for sharing your awesome museum with us. Blessings.
183!?!?! Fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed hearing your news, and seeing the museum tour as well. You are the perfect advocate for the museum and the finds scheme, they should take you up on the idea. I think Regton needs to play Santa Claus a bit early or late, and gift you a brand new detector.
Thanks for the info. I had no idea it takes so long for the museum to process and report. Now I'm looking forward with great anticipation to your next videos. I'm so glad you broke the 2024 silver jinx at last. Cheers from Texas.
Wow John I feel your pain with having to wait so long that would frustrate me too! I’m from New Zealand & my ancestor was Robbie Burns so when I watch you John I feel like I’m home!! Thank you for your amazing class on history!!❤
I was wondering about Albert’s bull just yesterday. In fact went back and watched the video where it was found. Still one of the best reactions to a find!
So fantastic that you found all those treasures and got to hold them for a little while! I’m from Canada but had the great experience of visiting Edinburgh and the museum many years ago 😊
Fantastic John! You're so lucky to do what you do and where you live is spectacular 👌 Scotland is my ancestral home and I really appreciate seeing the countryside and hearing the accent 😊 and thank you so much for sharing your experience with us all, I'm in New Zealand btw and my Dad is Scottish 👍
Wow! What a beautiful museum….and those exhibits! Ireland is on my husbands bucket list. After your history lessons I hope to see Scotland while we are in Europe.
Thank you for this video. As someone from the US I was curious about the process of reporting found treasures there in Scotland. The Museum is a marvel! I'd love to go there someday.
Fascinating mixture of information. Really interested in what you find out in the future about your items. Shame it's a long wait but shows some are following the rules and have more on their minds than making money. It's vital for our knowledge and appreciation of the past. Glad you've got the the detector sorted, although Simon may miss his labourer! Looking forward to seeing your silver haul. 😁
Thank you for an excellent visit to the museum, the Deus update and congratulations on breaking the silver drought! Bravo! My wish is for my wife and I to take a tour some day to visit the land of my ancestors.
Thanks for another great history lesson, John! If I ever make it to Ireland where my maternal ancestors came from, I would definitely love to hop over to your museum. One could spend a whole day there, if not more!
Great info John and what an amazing building the museum is. I would also recomend that people visit the smaller local museums where ever you are as they can really put you in touch with local history and sometimes hold some epic items ( I once saw Napoleons horse whip in Bedford U.K.)😉🇨🇦
Brilliant John, I’m excited for you and Albert. Time will fly and it will be worth it. The museum is on my list now and assume although free, a donation can be given. Thanks again
Thank you for the update video - the process is fascinating! You should try an eyeglass repair kit for a small screw driver - I can pick one up inexpensively at my local pharmacy.
I appreciate you, your knowledge, great videos, finds and explanations of finds. Well done on your amazing saves! 'm a fellow detectorist from the fields of Midlothian 😁 hope to maybe see you at a group dig sometime and have a chat about some history 😎 good luck on your next outing 😁
Thank you thank you for your devotion to keeping us supplied with video! I can’t imagine how much time you must spend filming and editing. It is all terribly fascinating. You are also the king of propriety regarding historic finds and sharing them with archeologists. A grand spokesman for doing the right thing for history. I am hoping that of the 183 items, some compensation might help with the equipment costs you must have. Knowledge is very satisfying, but a few pounds in the pocket must certainly be nice too. Thanks again from Canada!🎉❤ and you are right about the museum- after 3 hours we still had only done the Celtic section and a bit beyond. Days it would take us to get through it all! Next trip, I guess.
What work has gone into submitting your finds John. As you say, documented and conserved for future generations. Who knows what one simple find will link into, expanding the picture and joining the dots. Frustrating verification takes so long, fingers crossed for the outcome 🙌🏻
Loved this John! Cant wait to see your next finds!! You had a twinkle in your eyes each time you mentioned the next videos, so i guess you found something very special! 😘 Chez
I've been waiting for this update John, thank you. I hope they kept the round stone with the cross on it, which I think is Knights Templar. We have an ongoing treasure hunt going on in Nova Scotia on Oak Island, which is covered by the History channel. They have found Knights Templar evidence in their diggings. I'm a locked in fan John!
Great Video John, as always. Yeah, that top connector plastic piece that attaches the receiver unit - cheaply made. I have the Deus 2 also and it's a fabulous machine, but a few of the parts I wish were better made for a device someone is spending ~ $1500 US on - the connector one of them, and the coil charging clip another. Cheers. -John/Vermont
He'll of a video John!! Being in US I also was hesitant about the treasure trove laws but you eplained quite a few of my concerns so Thank You Sir!! I myself believe if a find is more important to the treasure hunter then th monetary value you would recieve you should have an option to decline offers!! I'm sure there is a logic to their way of doing thins but I still find it a little one sided? Again a big Thank You and congrats also on all the fine finds you have shown us in past few years!!! Well appreciated for sure!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The museum is beautiful, and things you showed us. I remember when Albert found the bull. That was a great vid. Love your channel!❤ oh Happy Valentines Day to you and your wife!❤❤❤
An amazing collection of finds and I'm looking forward to seeing your silver filled future videos! The museum looks fascinating! Thank you for filming some of the treasures there.
John, that’s fantastic! 183 items….. I know it will be a long wait but I’m so excited to hear what they have to say about them. Please also encourage people to GPS tag their finds. Thank you sir! 😊
Me too Emily. The problem with it is, out of context…. How old might it be. Could even have been made last week, but fingers crossed it’s 1,000+ years old!!
Excellent informative video my friend. I wish we had a similar system here in the United States. I’ll be waiting to hear what happens with your finds. Thank you for keeping us in the loop… John
John. You're an absolute legend. A brilliant narrator with tremendous knowledge. I personally love Edinburgh and the museum. Going back in the Spring. Admire your passion for history and you give us so much as subscribers. We're lucky to have you represent the hobby and for me, Scotland too. I often miss it. Can't wait to find out the result of Albert's bucket mount. He's got to be the luckiest Scotsman, including his nugget. Amazing finds all round. Thank you and happy hunting 😉
