Native American (Navajo) What Makes You A Surface Person? Hint... Your Identity.

What makes you a surface person on Mother Earth?
It's our clan system that identifies us to other Diné (Navajo People).
This clan system is sometimes confusing. But when understood... it is easy to see how all are connected.
Navajo clans each have an individual history. They also have clues about what part of the continent they come from.
Some clans have a water monster that pulls people under (Alligator). Another has the giant water serpent (Anaconda).
These clues and the stories of travel lend credence to the oral teachings that the Diné are a diverse group. People traveled from all over the continent to be among the Diné. Or to become Diné.

That's the reason why people in modern civilizations feel so lost, they can't connect to their past anymore. Thanks for sharing Wally and Shane 🙏

The clan system and governance is very similar to what exists among Aboriginal people here in Australia. It seems to me that the world would be a better place today if we payed more attention to old ways, ways that were there for good reason and worked. And I say that as a European Australian, thanks you for sharing.

I agree. governance needs to be local. Clan system is best for who better knows you than your own family.

My grandmother was full cherokee. She passed from cancer when I was real young. I only have parts of memories of her teachings. I wish I had someone I could talk to about Our teachings and beliefs. I know a good amount but still very ignorant due to lack of teachings in my life that I could remember fully. I know I come from Aniwaya, the wolf clan, I know that our family were blessed with the mark, as I've always heard it. There's just so many gaps I wish I could feel with deeper knowledge.

🐺Quest! 😊 Hello. My daughter had similar questions as yourself for similar reasons. The very first thing she did was go back to the land. (& village). The geographical land area that ancestors are from. Daughter said it totally blew her mind to stand in exactly the same spots, and walk exactly the same paths as her kin had for hundreds and hundreds of years. The trees here live for thousands of years, they would've stood there too. I send you blessings from afar for your journey. 😊 Haere Ra. (travel well)

I'm maori and grew up pakeha (white) I never knew my grandparents, met my nan a couple of times but never knew them. what helped me was tracing my family line back. Im not even sure why i do it. I then started doing things that gave me great joy in doing them. I also started getting insights from them, yes I NOW talk to them or acknowledge them when I feel them. We come from our tupuna (ancestors) So there knowledge is already embedded in us. the key is to release the mind!! meditate, don't think so much, be in the moment. FEEL!!.. and yes, go home!! When we introduce ourselves we have to learn our pepeha (where we are from and who we come from) and state it proudly. We learn it fully and sink ourselves into it so we have a strong ground on where we are from. we have sacred mountains, sacred rivers, sacred waka (canoe) sacred tribes and hapu plus our ancestral lines, all said within our pepeha. you will find what your looking for when you least expect it😘

Tonight I am asking something selfish of you Grandfather Wally. Would you be willing to do a video where you recite Walk In Beauty in your beautiful traditional Navajo language please? I know you have done a few other videos about the prayer, I also know it is a fairly long prayer. If I have missed a video where you have already done this, I apologize. Also, thank you for the teaching in this video. ❤ ~ APRIL LIPKE

Because my people hid and assimilated , these things never were told to me. Yet, when young, my favorite pastime on days you couldn't be outdoors, was digging into the past Searching closets, Cedar chests and asking copious amounts of questions. Never answered questions till at fifty.. my people were revealed to me the day my sister passed, on the phone, casually she asked;" you didn't know that you were Cherokee?" Nope but now I do. Two full blood grandparents, two which are half No wonder I was appalled by civilization by five.. My ancestors called me home to be Tsalagi. Our ancestors were forced to give up being who Great Spirit made them As the oldest....think it's Bird clan but still learning...it's amazing to me that this great blessing of knowing who my ancestors were keeps me constantly thanking Creator for such an interesting journey. They had it much harder . So, grateful for you Elder and all our Ancestors, Elders and relatives. Learning about all our relatives is such a gift. Wado Osiyo💯🌹❤️🪶

They thought of it as a cultural exchange center, or university. They found items there from Mexico and all over as well. It kinda lines up with this knowledge. I think ancient Athens could be described that way aswell.

Desiderata 🌈🕊️ Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive God to be. And whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. 🙏

If someone is in a pit, don't get down in the pit with them. Give them a hand up, not a handout. Love can heal all wounds. Gratitude for what blessings exist can bring more love.
