Gardeners in the northeast and mid-Atlantic can learn from the staff at Mt. Cuba Center in Delaware about native plants, eco-friendly gardening and creating habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. You will see native plants in a formal garden setting and see a palette of natives, some for full sun and many that bloom in the shade! This video also discusses Mt. Cuba's history and interesting anecdotes about the garden.

If I may suggest something, it is to not chop up the leaves, but rather just take them where you want to leave them for mulch because there are Lepidoptera that overwinter in leaves and can actually camouflage to look like leaves while in their cocoons. Shredding leaves would harm them, but leaving them whole would give them a chance to make it through to the next stage.

Yes, that is correct. Leave the leaves and don't shred them.

Did you not know that many moths and butterflies overwinter in a rolled up fallen leaf? Mulch if you must but don't chop and shred!
