Thank you for this. I was taking out two gallons of water every 4 hours while out on the water. I believe I have an older style rudder on my Titan 12. I wasn't going to wait around to have those gaskets shipped. EVA foam was going to take a while to get delivered to the house if ordered via Amazon. Harbor Freight FTW! I picked up some kneeling pads that were 1.5 inch thick EVA foam. Traced out the gasket, took it to the Dremel Scrollsaw, learned that the rudder recess area was tapered, and after the 4th version, I made one that was a snug fit. Slathered the rear hatch cover base with silicone after I took out what seemed to be glue from a glue gun. Let everything dry, and a couple of days later, took it out on the Delta. So happy now! No water coming up from the rudder area, and no water on the deck. No water in the hull either. I appreciate you buddy!
Hey Mobbin thanks for putting together the video and we are very glad the fix worked out for you. Sorry we didn't put any treats in the package. We literally got off the water after testing and rushed to get gaskets in the mail as quickly as we could because the weekend was coming up. We knew folks wanted to get on the water so we just rushed them out as fast as we could. You also nailed the reason we only advised 1 gasket and that was tension on the steering. We just felt the smaller single gasket didn't hinder steering but 2 seems to work for you so good onya!
Thanks for the fix im glad to get back on the water with dry feet. I really put in a lot of effort expressing to others that you guys will come through and Im sticking with my purchase. Not a day goes by that I enjoy using my Titan.
Was gonna order one of these until I saw your videos. Been saving and looking into a good fishing kayak for a year now and there is no way I'm gonna invest my money into something this expensive when its this janky and has foam gaskets. For the price these are you should be able to slide this thing down a mountain while its on fire and still get years of use out of it. Your videos are awesome and thanks for all the information.
Thanks Mobbin I was having the same issue didn't realize were the water was coming from, I will contact Native . I have the same Kayak love it . Thanks for all you help Happy Canadian Tight Lines
pghdave420 yeah my thought is... Get the Pilot and with what I saved not getting the Titan I could buy all new fishing gear... I need new rods and reels and I'd like to get Boonedox landing gear. Lol have all my savings spent... But then I'm not sure I want a 13 foot kayak... Lol
Just got back from capsizing my native watercraft 10.5 and Im pretty sure It took on water in the hull causing and imbalance in the center of gravity, thus causing it to flip , only way water would of entered is through the rudder port in the back.lost a bunch of tackle and kayak got damaged during the recovery process. Now I'm stumped as to how to contact native , since they don't have a direct customer support number and also how do I explain all this to them? Dissapointed beyond belief. Thank God I had my life jacket on
When I bought my 10.5, they gave me the "Upgrade Rudder Seal Kit"! Yep, mine leaked the second time I went out in it. When I replaced the seal on the rudder, I also used 2 of them and kept the third one as a spare. Also, I used Dow Corning 111 Grease for a watertite lubricant. It's Silicone Base, so it won't hurt any plastics. It is VERY Heavy based, and won't get "runny" in hot weather. I also fabricated a Teflon Washer to go under the rudder steering drum, to keep any friction at bay. With the cables lubricated with the same grease and tightened, I can now steer with just my "Pinkie"! (Yes, I did the same thing for the steering handle assy. also!) Now, to save up and buy the Boonedox Rudder! I'm thinking about maybe changing the S/S Steering Cables out with some 600# Kite Surfing line! (I'll let ya know if it works or not!) Happy Water Trails, to Everyone...
Making a full length cover now, from a camouflaged tarp that will be heavy duty, with added grommets and bungee cord. I'll try to get a picture and dimensions, if interested. Also rod holders frm 1-1/2" ABS pipe (it's light and easy to work with, and it's "cheap"!) Haha!
Ordered mine today. The Boonedox rudder was not as bad as the stock rudder but don't want any water coming in back there. Other than that I love my 10.5.
well guys....just got my 10.5 (2/28/2018) and it leaks as well. I reached out to my dealer to help me out. We will see.....if not I'm calling native (if you can find a contact number. Can't find one on the website). Good job MOBBIN, thanks for posting!
contact them on direct message on instagram or message Woody Callaway on the Native Watercraft Titan group on facebook. They should be able to set you up.
So do you think with the boondox the same gaskets would fit? My titan is full of water and I mean Full on deck and also inside and every time the water comes from the back even with the plugs.
yes, you will need these same gaskets on your rudder. Also want to check the seal on your peddle drive cover. Upgrade them with thicker weather stripping for a solid seal. When peddling fast, the water can seep thru the cover. I would also disassemble the hear hatch to check the seal as well.
I’m hope Native update their kayaks like Hobie. It’s about innovation when you spend $2k plus for a vessel and fixing errors that are on earlier models.
freestyle yaaj your hope is granted. These issues have been addressed not long after this video was released. They listened to the feedback of their customers and even updated their molds. I commend Native for doing the right thing, especially for their customers. Isn’t that what makes a great company? Since I released this video, they sent me an awesome fishing long sleeve/hoodie. And you are right about innovation. Instant reverse like the propel drive is such a game changer especially for my style of fishing.
I have a 2015 13ft. Slayer Propel and have experienced water getting INSIDE the hull ?!?!? I have heard of other Native kayak owners having the same issue but can't figure out HOW or where on earth the water could be getting INSIDE the hull ?? I was wondering if anyone has an idea ? Love your videos and just subscribed !
now they're in there. The first batch of Native Titan boats didnt have this fix and this is how they addressed it. All new natives should have this installed and the top deck is now molded differently at the rudder
Thanks dude, I am sending something their way for sure. I heartily agree about the letter. For what we spend on that boat, send me an apology, a sticker, some gear......
Haha, I am very proud of my heritage. And continue to practice my cultural values and traditions along to my kids. But being a son of a American-Filipino Cheif Warranty Officer in the U.S. Navy with 22 yrs of service. My dad would kick my ass if I dont fly and represent the U.S. Flag first.
MOBBIN Outdoors I too have Filipino blood but I too love and support the great US of A proudly. I knew I followed your channel for a reason. Keep it up bro
MOBBIN Outdoors I would love that bro. I am still in the Tamarack angler so I can’t keep up with the pedal drives but I’ve been debating on participating in Berryesa. I’ve never fished a tourney let alone a kayak tourney.
every onces in awhile I go hold low key kayak sessions with other fishbrainers. Usually in Folsom Lake or Lake Natoma. If your game, will definitely consider you. Just waiting for the weather to warm up. The pre spawn is gonna be lit
