A team of researchers from the US, Germany, and Australia, including Anil Kumar Devara, an assistant professor from MSU Baroda, recently discovered the world’s oldest ostrich nest in Andhra Pradesh. The nest measured 9-10 feet in diameter and likely contained 911 eggs. The team also discovered about 3,500 fragments of ostrich eggshells concentrated in a small area.
Since the 1930s, archaeologists have documented fossilised ostrich eggshell fragments from the Shivalik Hills to Peninsular India. Now there's ample evidence that the big bird existed on the Indian subcontinent as early as 41,000 years ago. Explains Disha Ahluwalia, Archaeologist and junior research fellow at the Indian Council Of Historical Research, in this week's column.

Lot of talk, very little useful information. When did they go extinct in India? For example. Did not even address that.

And what could be the reason they went extinct on the Bhāratiya Subcontinent. These are interesting questions to find the answers for

During indian crateon's journey from africa to asia most of india was under heavy volcanic activity due to passing over reunion hotspot releasing apocolyptic level of fluid molten lava and toxic fumes which increased earth's temperatures very much caused an dinosaur extinction event so the mighty ostrich might be a small bird because only small scavening animals can endure the food shortage for long times visa vi large specialised animals.

Haven't you heard about indo- australian plate? Millions of year ago both australia and India share a same tactonic plate (both were part of a single plate). The diffusion occurred around 130 mya (million years ago) and India was separated from Antarctica and Australia.

@mohitanand even large quantities of ostrich egg shells have been found from the prehistoric site of patne (Maharashtra) and parts of MP , gujrat and rajasthan. This evidence proved that india was inhabited by ostrich around 25,000 years ago
