Good Day from Kamakura, Japan! 🇯🇵 A change of pace and location. Today, I visit the home and garden of a neighbor and new friend, Hendrik Hilberdink. Hendrik does all-natural farming -- no plastics, no chemicals, no synthetic containers -- it’s all done naturally. Here’s a link to his webpage:

Good day everyone! I’ve received a few messages recently that some of you haven’t been receiving notifications of my posts. I’ve spoken to RU-vid Creator Support and they’ve provided some solutions:
Problems with notifications? The common reasons why a subscriber will not receive notifications.
1. They are not actually subscribed to your channel, but are confused by “Recommended video” notifications.
2. Their bell icon setting is set to “personalized” rather than “all” notifications. This resets if they unsubscribe and resubscribe.
3. Their greater RU-vid notification settings are set to “None” for channel notifications.
4. They aren’t logged in.
5. Their device level notification settings are overriding their RU-vid settings
Another reasons viewers may not be receiving notifications.
1. They already received the maximum number of notifications from your channel that day.
More troubleshooting steps can be found here as well, support.google....
Thanks for your patience and continued support. It means a lot to me.

Hello dear Robert. An absolutely fascinating video. Please do more of these, as we get a glimpse of Japan through your eyes. Unbelievable the amount of uses one can get by using bamboo! Hendrick has mastered the use of sustainable materials, his lovely chicken coop as a prime example!! His backyard jungle is a grocery store within reach. This was so cool! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your week!

Thank you, Robert, and Hendrik, for a fascinating episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more of the same. It’s always interesting to learn different ways of doing things and try to incorporate them into one’s own way of gardening. I’ve been practicing no-dig gardening for some years now and this year I decided to embrace the weeds (my back thanks me😁) and plant everything, vegetables and flowers, in a happy jumble. I also scattered seeds giving little thought to what landed where. No more neat and tidy rows for me. Given that I’m a huge fan of neat and tidy in all things this took some effort and getting used to😂. I must say, it’s a pleasure to watch the butternut squash vines clambering over my thyme shrubs. Shiso and daikon have popped up among the leaves and my tomatoes and cosmos are growing happily together. It’s been another hot and dry summer and not everything is thriving but, yesterday, we finally had rain after nothing of any consequence since early May! We’ve had more rain today and the air smells wonderful. I’m happy, the garden is happy…nothing beats rainwater! Have a wonderful day and thank you, again, for sharing your afternoon with Hendrik. I loved every minute of it. Will you be adopting any of his methods in your own garden in what remains of this year? As always, I look forward to your next video. Have a great day🙂🙏🏻

Thank you Susan! I’m glad to know that you’re having some success with no-dig gardening 👩‍🌾. I think that with my limited amount of space I’ll have to make the best use of it that I can. Next planting season I may try to incorporate some of Hendrik’s methods, such as the bamboo seed starters. I’m having such success with my grow bags that I’m going to continue with them for the foreseeable future. I’d love to have a chicken 🐓 run! 🤔👍🏾🤩🐶

Wow...what an eye opener. Hendrick is an inspiración. What a great attitude ... I feel the same way about concrete. If I ever built again I would make the first level of our natural rock stone and the next level in Cedar plank..maybe it would be cooler. I only have 1 Pear tree but it produced Pear last year...so is it a 2 in 1 so to speek😂 Robert the Chicken wrangler. You could use some of Hendriks smaller bamboo pots when you initially prick out the seedlings. Well bye for now and have a wonderful week. Thankyou Hendrik for sharing your space with us, great. ❤from 🇯🇲

'Kikuimo' is a plant with an edible tuber, but it's not a potato. The scientific name is 'Helianthus tuberosus'. It is a perennial sunflower also called 'Jerusalem artichoke' or 'sunchoke'. It isn't an artichoke either. It IS a sunflower.
