It's vibrant and great for the coming springtime. I've been henna-ing my hair for years now and this is how I do it. I've got lots of footage and demonstration to show how it's done, along with tips and tricks I've learned over the years. If you want beautiful, natural red tinted hair, henna is definitely the way to go! :) Enjoy!

I have been using henna for probably 4 or 5 years. I’m a natural red/auburn haired person. I was always called a redhead, but now I have white hairs which drives me nuts so I use henna. I actually put it on my damp hair and that works very well, because otherwise my hair is too dry since it’s coarse and wavy/curly. I don’t usually wait to put it on. I mix it with some coffee and filtered water, a couple tsp. apple cider vinegar with “the mother” and that’s it. I cover my hair with a plastic shopping bag to keep it moist and use an alligator clip to close it behind my head. I typically leave it in 2 hours, some times more but not longer than 3. I wash out with conditioner, then don’t wash again for 4 to 5 days. It will run slightly each time you wash it. If you have gray or white, it needs to be done once a month usually. Don’t make it runny. It should be thick but smooth, it may drip a bit, just wipe with a paper towel. I use natural red by the Henna Guys, but today I’m using auburn mixed with natural red which makes me nervous. My hair looks more red than hers, because it’s my natural color. Either way, people compliment it. If you have normally straight, non frizzy hair, it will stay like that. If you have my texture, you’ll still need products that fight frizz. It doesn’t take it away. I do feel like the products I use shorten the life of the henna, but I don’t want frizzy hair. If you use it for a while, you’ll get the hang of it. I forgot to mention that I use gloves and just slap some on each section and only do the roots. I’ve only ever done the whole head once. Use a comb with a tail to section hair. Don’t mix in metal bowls. Use glass and a spatula. That’s about all I can offer anyone from my own experience. Good luck!

@maxhr1749
@maxhr1749 Год назад
@@milliem8051 yes, brighter than the rest but the color calms down after a day or two. I’ve been mixing natural red, auburn, and mahogany lately for a darker color, but the top is like dark hair would be highlighted. I get compliments all the time for the color so I’m assuming it looks like I want it to. Lol 🤞🏻

Great video. I will say that henna doesn't HAVE to be an all day thing. I have been using henna for a decade. I make a year's worth of henna at a time and package and freeze it. Every third Friday when I leave for work I pop a frozen batch in the fridge to thaw. In the evening when I get home I shower and wash my hair. Apply henna to my roots, wrap in plastic. Then I have dinner and watch a movie. After two hours I rinse, condition and then brow dry. My hair grows so fast and I am so gray I have to do it every three weeks. So I have it down pat.

Best procedure for frequent colouring. Thanks for sharing! My hair is 98% white in the front and 40% gray and 60% dark brown. I have bought mountain light in medium brown but I feel I will have to add a little bit more indigo for the front part. Could you please tell me the which henna company do you use. Thanks so much.
@NicoleneOReilly
@NicoleneOReilly 2 года назад
@@karimbegum69 I am not brand loyal. Since I only buy henna once a year or so I buy whatever has good reviews and a research-able company name. I buy a big bag of 100% henna. I also mix mine with cassia for a brighter orange-red color.

Wow, it looks so much easier to do this with shorter hair! Mine is butt-length. I managed to get henna on the ceiling.... I actually used the plastic cover included in the Light Mountain package (light red) this last time instead of plastic wrap, and it is MUCH better and no drips! I pulled the slack to the front of my forehead, twisted it up like a towel turban, and secured it with a claw clip. It kept everything in place.

@@edoboleyn I hennaed my hair for about 2 years I think? I would absolutely recommend it. I stopped using henna only because my grey was coming in in cool witchy streaks, and it grows too fast to keep up with the roots with such obvious greys, so I just decided to go grey. Got super dark hair and have red henna on my head right now (local brand I believe the powder mix came already with hibiscus and some saffron I think) and I took a stretchy cotton scarf and tied it like a turban on my head (kinda like your beanie method) OVER the plastic wrap and it helps catch any drip on the back of my neck so I dont need to keep wiping there. When its time to wash. I recommend first wetting the back of your head for 2 minutes and then flipping your head and NO SHAMPOO. Found your same brand on iHerb and can't eait to try it !

The most perfect video about henna .. Thank u .. U r awesome with every way.. But only one thing as an half arabian and we r so so used to henna as a traditional .. Just ii know that it will b so hard to let it dry on head on air instead u cover it up .. But actually this is the right original way to let it be uncovered .. Henna it doesn't work as hair dye about heating although the chemical hair dye happens with oxidation process need to be done on air too .. Just henna is still a grass .. Let it dry uncovered will stain stronger and deeper watery don't achive stable color in henna.. Exactly as the drawing on skin with henna if u just leave it dry on air will works and if it still wet on skin it won't stick and will fade for sure .. And don't b afraid how harder it will be .. But it will b washed anyway .. Just patient anyway the whole henna taking 4 to 5 days to be perfectly done .. Just make them more six .. Not big deal 😆👯

I used this once years ago and never ever again. Yours is beautiful, I love it but mine came out a very weird rusty brassy color and I couldn't ever get rid of it, it took months so never ever again, I wish it wasn't like that because I love the idea that it's all natural and I don't think anything else is really natural, some may not be as bad as others but still not really natural. I would say that the next best thing to henna for being all natural is one called naturgin but I'm not totally sure even with that one.

Great video, finally all the information I needed! I have brown hair (a bit dark) and I am thinking of henna, but I am very worried that it will turn really red and I dont want that! I am aiming for exactly the color you have! I bought completely natural henna (red) and the instructions say use only lemon and leave the mix for 10 to 24 hours! And then exactly the process you did. So I am a bit confused on what to follow, and what to avoid if I dont way too red results
@lainamarie91
@lainamarie91 5 лет назад
Personally, I have found lemon creates a much brighter red. Heat activates the henna color. If you don't use heat, you might need to wear it many, many hours, but I've never tried it that way. I always use warm or hot water to get the color process started before applying.

Love your hair color here -- so vibrant and stunning, and really enjoyed this video! I have a question for you --- I have some leftover Lush Caca Noir & Brun. I loved the way they made my hair feel, but I am looking at some Henna Color Lab and also Light Mountain and wondering if I can mix a shade from one of these brands with my Lush dyes... in hopes of getting the conditioning benefit from the Lush Caca (lol) but also to get more of the color I am going for? I don't want to waste that Caca but don't want to go through the hassle as I didn't love the color they produced. My hair is medium-dark brown with some residual warmer tones from my last Caca Brun use as well as natural highlights from the sun. I want a cooler shade, knowing the light auburn hue in my ends will still shine through whatever I layer on top. Do you think this will work or should I avoid mixing henna products?
@lainamarie91
@lainamarie91 5 лет назад
In my own personal experience, Noir gave a dark brown with a slight cool tone. I would definitely do a test section of hair first if you're unsure about the results. I don't see there being a problem with mixing hennas in general, it's just harder to know how it will turn out on your hair.

Interesting. I've been coloring my hair with henna for more that 10 years now and I've always done it on "dirty" hair. Plus, I've never wrapped it with anything. Instead I use my hairdryer and once it's dry, I get in the shower. 30 mins putting it on, 1 hour until drying and then washing it up. Always perfect hair for a month and plus.

Is the black henna hair dye more of a blue black/cool toned or is it more red toned or warm toned? Thankyou!

Nice, I've never tried it before but now that I have some grey I have to dye too often that my hair and scalp are dry and itchy. I'm interested in trying henna, love red hair. I have med/dark hair as well.

2jesusIbelong how did it turn out?
@2jesusIbelong
@2jesusIbelong 4 года назад
@@bayareababe I like how it turned out. My hair was dark brown so it didn't get as red looking as I thought it would but I've been told the more you do it the better it starts looking. So I plan to dye it again very soon! It looks very nice in the sun. It covered my greys, those spots are obviously a little brighter than the rest of my hair. I didn't like the color for the first few days. But around the 4th day it became a richer red, that I do like. Hoping it's even richer red the 2nd time I dye it!

Great video! Thank so much for posting it! :) I'm "rehab'ing" my fine hair after trying to go from my very dark brown to dark blonde (tried to blend with my grays that are coming in more now). My hair got really damaged through the process so I took it back to brown. I haven't colored in about 5 months so I have about 4 inches of natural growth (30% gray, rest is very dark brown/black). I'm ready to try henna and cut out the damage from chemicals. I think I'm going to do a mix of dark brown and mahogany from Light Mountain. Good combo? Btw, how do you get the henna off your face, neck and hands after coloring? Thanks again! xo

@lainamarie91 5 лет назад
I used mahogany or burgundy once (sorry I can't remember which) and I loved it! I hope you like your results. Sometimes the henna does stain my skin, but if you wipe it off quickly, it isn't a big deal. You can always apply something to your face as a barrier to help prevent staining. You could use a little coconut oil around your hair line, for example.

Hiii!! I loved your video! I’ve been wanting to dye my hair red with henna for a year, my hair is medium dark and I want it to be more orangy than red, since you’ve tried the red and the bright red from light mountain, can yo tell me which one would work better?? O if you have pictures where you can tell the difference between them?! Thank youuuu xoxoxo

silvana de cecco I have lots of pictures on my blog lainamarie91.blogspot.com/search?q=henna&m=1 It's hard for me to say whether bright red is the color you're looking for or not because it's been awhile since I used it. But I hope the blog posts help.

Hi! My hair was a darkish mousy brown colour before I hennaed it, I’ve done it twice. First time with lush henna (don’t recommend) it came out nice and orangey red but faded within about two weeks to just a dull tinge for me! I switched to light mountain in red for my second application and it did come out a darker red colour that was a lot less orangey than the lush one but a lot more vibrant. I personally really liked the colour I got but it has now faded to a more orangey tone of red (almost three months later) and I still love it! I’ve not tried the bright red but I would say give that a go instead of the red if your looking for something more orange! Good luck!

Hi!! Thank you for your video!!! I really just want a little tint of auburn. My hair is a medium brown color and I want a very subtle red. I'm guessing I would go with a red henna, but if it comes out too red after the 48hrs. Would I be able to re-henna with a brown henna to tone it down? Thank you!!
@lainamarie91
@lainamarie91 6 лет назад
Yes, that would work out perfectly fine. If it's too bright, you can always go a little darker, but trying to go the other way around won't work, so it's best to gradually build it to what you want.

I usually wear it overnight but never let mine sit. This time I'm going to let it sit first & leave it on for a few hours. I notice when I leave it on that long I get headaches.

Once the plastic shower cap is on you can speed up the process by blow drying for 5 to 10 mins and adding heat that way. I find it really intensifies the red tones by adding direct heat to my head.

It's speeds up the dye release. Makes the color more vibrant. Just bought the Light Mountain Bright Red for the first time and love it. I find it way less drying than other brands. (Even the Henna Sooq Red Raj which is supposedly the best.) I think i prefer the Light Mountain bright red. I prefer more Coppery tones to a wine red and i found the Henna Sooq too dark for me. I'm used to copper toned henna. Anyways very informative you covered it all and i enjoyed your video immensely. Thanks

I was wondering how you got the dark base tone... did you use dark brown/black or indigo henna before you started with the red? I’m looking to get to a similar hair colour you have in this video, but I’m not sure if I should start with darkening it, before going over it with red. Also not sure how often I should repeat it. Once a month or more often? Thanks for the helpful video!

My natural hair color is a medium/dark brown. I don't darken it before applying henna. Henna will coat whatever color you have underneath. But if you want something darker, you might take a look at different shades from Light Mountain. They have everything ranging from bright red to black. For me, the color has always been very permanent so the only reason I really need to touch it up is because of my roots.
