Is there such a thing as a naturally protective dog? What say you?
In today's video I am going to provide some examples and dispel some myths around dog behavior, training, and whether or not I think some dogs are just natural protection dogs.
I'd love to know your thoughts as well so please share them below!
I have plans to discuss this topic in depth with professional protection dog trainer, Courtney Robins. Owner and head trainer at Global K9 Protection Services in a future video!

I personally don't agree with the narrative that dogs need to be trained for protection. Many dogs are "trained" for it and many have high fail rates in real life situations in the absence of a sleeve or suit, shepherds especially. Then there are dogs who have never been agitated or seen a sleeve or suit and protect their owners. It has to be in the individual, you can bring it out or enhance and control it but they must possess it first.

thank you so much for this! there is a huge misconception about personal protection, and even family members close to me have believed this. more people really need to learn the dangers of backyard bite work.

I'm a veterinary technician. In my lived experience, backyard protection work tends to end with people getting hurt and dogs getting seized, quarantined, and potentially euthanised, and it breaks my heart. I wish more people understood what you're saying here.

So glad u made this video. I have two GSD’s one is just a puppy. So our professional training is just starting our other is 4 and we spent the first two years nonstop with professional training for him to learn both basic obedience advanced obedience and protection work. And we still work on it regularly. The training never stops and it can’t be back yards training. I found your channel because at some point we might add a Mal to our family but even Mals and GSD’s are very different and right now we have a GSD puppy that will need several years of constant and extensive work so we’re just getting to know more about Mals in case we decide down below it’s right for our family. But love your videos. And not only learning about Mals but you offer great training tips for any type of working dog or high energy dog. Thanks. ❤

Hiya, greeting from the UK. I have only just come across your channel, I find either PSA OR IGP fascinating. Over time I have been watching a lot of Canadian Shield K9, however I do like the way you present and explain the good, the bad and the ugly about dog training. Currently I have what you call Bird dogs or Gun dogs as I don't have the health, time, or commitment to engage in protection training. Your honesty is refreshing buy also very educational. You certainly have a new fan

Thanks, well-explained, and I love the way you have protection work happen in your home and front yard. Coming from the IPO world as dog handler, owner and helper, I can say that typical "protection work" doesn't make the average dog protective. When tested later, many dogs "fail", as they're filing away bite-work under "the fun stuff happening at the training field". I only owned 2 dogs with a "natural protection dog" instinct: My Giant Schnauzer /GSD mix who competed in IPO 3, BUT the interesting thing is, our only real-life situation (that was not staged as part of the training at the club) occurred when he was 6 months old. He was busy sniffing the ground when a young man approached and touched me inappropriately. I warned him of the dog, but the guy only laughed, saying it's just a puppy. A moment later, my dog flew at the guy, hit the end of the leash barking, growling and snapping, and almost got him. The guy ran, quick. The only other real-life situation I encountered was with my 1 year old Estrela Mountain Dog (a giant Mastiff-type breed). Whom I bought because these livestock guardian dogs are, in my opinion, much more geared towards protecting their "flock" as a Herding breed like the GSD or the Mali.: We caught a potential home invader about to enter our land, and I yelled at him, he yelled back, and made moves to attack me. My dog, like the Schnauzer before, flew to the end of her leash, snapping and trying to get to him. He very quickly took off. BOTH instances were with dogs who, at that time, were not protection-trained. So I guess in my case, having the Estrela to have my back on walks and in the home... getting a Malinois really is "only" because of my love for the breed. And to fill the footsteps of our older GSD as my husband's mountain hiking companion. Also, to ENJOY the dog - training, walking, playing, and learning as I train and raise the puppy. I wouldn't expect them to protect me as such: They might; I really think doing so without training either is IN THE DOG, naturally, or it is not. If it is not, but the dog lends itself to bite-work, than, sure, protection work in real-life settings is great. But yes, this is why I'm watching this channel, and not all those crazy Mali-biting videos - because I want to have the best possible experience owning one of these "canine thoroughbreds". Much love to you, you really rock; keep up the great work!

I was around GsdS(working line)2)in Eastern Europe when I was a toddler and they were very brave and protective. Maybe it’s a lineage thing as some bloodlines are naturally more aggressive and protective. My father didn’t allow dogs when we emigrated to North America due to busy lifestyle but I, as an adult dog, got my first dog as an adult.. a Standard Poodle due to family members allergy. He’s an easy learner and super smart as per breed standard. He’s also very friendly on walks with both people and dogs. Anyway in the home he started showing a lot of protective instinct which I know is common for dogs. One time there was a snowstorm and my father was over and was walking outside in the yard near the shed., and my puppy.. probably 8 or 9months at the time starting barking like crazy as he couldn’t see( I guess) who it was. Anyway he actually launched himself at the glass door. I was surprised because he’s a very cute dog.. kept in a teddy bear clip so he looks like a doodle.. but he has a mean and loud bark. Then another time a few months later.. 2 men were walking a little too close to our property.. and he again started barking like crazy and launched himself at the glass door. Mind you.. I’f I invite strangers into the home.. hea super friendly and wants their attention. Very stable and confident dog but with extremely alert. Now I don’t know if he would actually attack an intruder but he is surprisingly extremely territorial of his abode. Also very sensible if that makes sense.

Thanks Kay for the full on honest video. Maybe you want to mention the cost of professional training with the average price being 15k and up it may be out of the reach of some people. We were looking for a trainer in the US to train a dog and then ship to South America. The price was crazy expensive. Fortunately we found a retired military trainer who breeds and trains Malinois for the Colombian military and select private families. It was at a fraction of the cost of having one trained in the US and shipped to South America. He and his partners come very highly recommended. We met with him and discussed our needs / wants. We emphasized that we were in no hurry and would wait for the right dog. Once he heard this he was willing to work with us. Our dog Achilles, will have two brothers going into the military and two sisters going to the police dept. Our dog was the one who was more suitable to a family. He is being raised different from his brothers and sisters. He lives in the trainers house with his wife and kids and is socialized daily around bogota. There are excellent quality trainers available around the world at a reasonable price point you may just have to spend some time to find them. It took us 2+ years to finally find a breeder/trainer combo that worked for us. We will start the transition from the trainer to us once Achilles turn 6 month with the transition being complete at 8 months.

I've never owned a dog that would protect me without training. I had a German Shepherd just watch someone punch me, and he didn't do anything except lay down. However, I'm a felon, so by law, im not allowed to own a trained protection dog, so I have no reason to have a dog to protect me. I love your videos.

I think it's possible to go to a certain point and playing tug is certainly good preparation for what's to come. But the main problem is often that there simply isn't a qualified decoy nearby. So you end up in a dead end that you can't get out of.

Some dogs have the natural instinct to protect their owners and property. I had a GSD as a child, and she had that "I'll die for you" gene and my Mallie has the same. However, I do now have a professional trainer, because Mallies are 10 x more everything than a GSD. Speed, intelligence, everything. Not only do you need a trainer, you also need a relationship with your dog. Just remember that the forces guys are with their dogs on patrol all day. So, if you want the same relationship, you have to be the sort of person who has their dog with them A LOT. 7am to 10pm, with kennel breaks inbetween, that's our day. Mallies love company and they like to do a job. If that job is protesting you, provided you train them and understand the breed, then you will have a great dog. You have to understand that they are VERY different to other breeds because they take in a lot of sensory information all at once. If a plant pot is out of place in your garden, they notice. They notice all the little details. They move so fast, like lightning, so if they are at your feet whilst you do the dishes and then hear a noise outside, they will turn and launch out that door quicker than you can see it! So position yourself carefully around your dog. Don't train fetch on a hill and stand at the bottom lol, you with be knocked of your feet if they accidentally bang you! They are soooo fast and sooo powerful. It is incredible. They are sensitive and loving dogs, extremely loyal. They are not as yappy as GSD, so when they do bark, go and see what's up. They will get you fit - this is not an option for you - once you own one it's game on! It's a responsibility and you have to up your game from now on. They will stop you drinking, even socially, because when out you will be thinking "I got to take my Mallie out in morning, think I will pass on the drink." And you will be happy about it, because taking them out is awesome. They don't have an off switch, so after hard training, you put them away in kennel for a bit and they soon fall asleep and absorb all the training. They don't do too well in heat, so run them in shade like a forest when hot. I say this- God makes some beautiful things, and the Mallie is one of them ❤ you know many people in this world cannot own pets, so if you have one of these amazing dogs, or any other dog, be grateful.

I agree with most of what you’re saying but I’m not gonna sit there and try to be the arbiter of truth telling people not to purchase a malinois for a first time dog and train one without any help, honestly I’ve seen a lot of first timers get a malinois with huge success and I’ve also seen quite a few failures. I feel it’s just as possible with any dog though. But people need to remember it’s a commitment no matter what breed you choose. If you want a high drive dog that loves to fetch and go on hikes, jump in the pool and (up too but not including) rip a would be attackers arm off. If you’re willing to put in the work, Then sure by all means get a mal, if you want a lazy couch potato then get a English bulldog. that’s the best way I can put it to people considering one. However I can’t rule out RU-vid. I will say I got a lot of my info as far as training goes from RU-vid. I do go to a local trainer for obedience and protection work, at the very minimum at least protection work. I started doing puppy bite work with my dog on a bite rag and bite pillow myself. Teaching him the basics and the bite/out words, but I will never recommend doing the bite work on yourself as a decoy with your personal dog. Probably 80% of the training I’ve put into my dog I’ve learned from books or RU-vid and this is a dog that I can walk off leash in public without issue, Now that goes with a grain of salt because I’ll say a lot goes to just how he is, he’s very mellow and aims to please until it’s time to play ball or bite a suit, just because mine is like this does not mean everyone else’s will be. Protection work wise you definitely need help when it comes to training in bite work. Obedience wise I’ll argue that RU-vid has a lot to offer if you actually apply yourself and put in the work (because let’s face it some trainers on RU-vid are full of shit and make it look easy when that couldn’t be further from the truth) I’ve learned more from the smaller channels (Highly recommend Mike Ritland ,stonnie dennis and Haz from Shield k9). I guess the point I was trying to make is that it’s possible. don’t think just because you have never owned a dog/ Malinois before that you can’t train one properly by yourself, I’m not saying this channel is like this, but I always see people going “oMg dOnT gEt wUn oF tHeSe bEcUz yU dOnT kNoA wUt uR dOinG” and it’s just complete nonsense. people can learn and perform a task and not be experts on the matter.

This is a great message but most “personal protection” trained dogs won’t protect either. My mentor who trained police dogs and titled dogs in IGP told me “ you’ll have more opportunities to protect your dog than your dog will to protect you”. This IMO could not be more true. Although I train protection, and I hope my dog is a deterrent, I don’t kid myself in thinking it’s a guarantee they won’t run.

Thankyou Maligator mom for putting this out there. I 100% agree with you. I am a first time Mal owner and I am at the point where (at @13 weeks old) I am thinking, what the hell kind of monster did I just buy? These dogs in any form or fashion if not properly trained can and will be a liability. Not every Mal is suited to be "just a pet" and mine is certainly protective but not in a healthy way, akin to resource guarding. Something every Mal owner needs to look at, especially if you are a novice handler, RU-vid may not be enough. If you have a Mal, please please please consider working with a pro regardless or at least get your puppy/dog evaluated.

I personally believe that in order to find out what a dog or anything is made if you have to have real fear. Aggression will come maybe. Protection training can increase the chase of true protection but it’s just giving it skills. When the dog is actually afraid it you can only pray the dog has not learned that all his training never results in pain or death. Protection training is still a game. Real is only real when it gets real. Both for tik tok and protection community. Nothing is 100%. Build a good relationship with you pets. Love will always bring out the best no matter the activity of bonding.

So in these videos, the owner shows their dog protecting the kids from them, their own owner??? And this is normal and something that is desirable??? Sorry, I don't understand the logic. Thank you for pointing this out! In my opinion, most of the time this behavior is fear based or it's just resource guarding. I have 7 dogs, 4 of them are malinois and I have never had this problem. Love the channel Love the dogs The only reason why I would say I would say I agree and disagree is because Don't understand the difference between a pet, a working dog and a family member. I have been training service dogs for 9 years. For the last 8 years my mentor has beena kennel master from beal Air Force base. I have a malinois-raptor. My mentor told me 8 years ago that he would let me know when it was time for me To have a Dog with ADHD. You are right people get the dogs because of movies in the fad. They do not realize that this is aHyper easy distracted child in aThe body of a very deadly machine. They o⁵of the cartoon character baby Huey. Now as far is that true natural bond and/or protection it starts with trust trust love caring. Onuce you establish the trust law in order Everything else will be easy you just have to understand that only you know what training is dogs don't so

What do you mean when you talk about "protection dogs by nature"? I was a tutor of 2 GSD's and at the moment a Malinois and both GSD's protected their pack "family" when they feel there is danger nearby and they did it without even specifically training them. I'm not talking about "deploying a dog" or biting someone, I'm talking about the attitude they took to avoid the danger from approaching us, making some efforts to prevent us from approaching the "dangerous thing" or doing some warning things to the threat. I am sure that almost all breeds do the same thing to some degree. Even at home they have a special sense of naturally protecting their "family". They always "untrained" rest between you and the door. They know where what they consider a threat is coming from and will react to it. So the concept of "protection dog" is not the same as "self defence dog or attack dog etc". I think even a Chihuahua is going to warn its family that something unknown or potentially dangerous is approaching. Whether it then bites or not is another matter. An interesting question would be what happens if one or two strangers attack you while you are walking your dog. Will the dog simply watch you being kicked again and again on the ground? Will it run for cover? Will it attack and bite the aggressors? The answer for my two GSD's is clear, they will react and yes, they will attack and bite until they consider the threat has ceased. This is better achieved by simply having a well-socialised and stable dog. Thanks for your videos, very instructional.

I was a K-9 handler during my 22 year career, he was trained to do bite work, search for bad guys and bite them if they failed to listen and give up. He was protective over my kids, but when I had to correct or spank one of my kids Max new he was not the Alpha male. If he came after me, which he never did it would be handled and he would be corrected. Hitting at your kids is not protection work, your creating a problem animal who will be unpredictable.

I understand what you're saying and it makes sense. But let me ask this, what if you can't afford training? It's like just oh well I guess you're screwed if you need protection. I've seen classes that are hundreds of dollars that I simply can't afford on my budget. That should not mean that family can't be protected. You made a good case but you didn't provide an alternative. I refuse to believe a dog can't/won't protect you naturally if necessary. They can tell what your intentions are between playing and causing actual harm. And there ARE some dogs that don't even tolerate play wrestling. Coming from an abusive past myself, I'm not going to complain if I find a dog that will protect me naturally or a working alternative to a trainer.🤷🤦

The first thing I think. no one really wants a dog that bites. Everyone wants a dog that's intimidating so that he doesn't bite. Yes, you are right You cannot train a dog to do protection. You do need a decoy You need someone who knows how to read the dog. But for what most people want. they say one thing, but we all know in the dog world you just. want a watchdog. Someone that makes them noise. appear intimidating to keep people from you and your valuables. Some dogs. German shepherds Dutch Shepherds list goes on. We all know in the dog world. They just want a dog to be intimidating without the bite. Are they? Yes. Well, they bite on command. No. will they do a war dance? Yes. And most people are not going to see. if that dog is going to bite. Mission accomplished. I am a owner of a Dutch I've had KPV dogs. I've had. area protection dogs. That's all they want. Let them live their dream.

“Naturally protective” doesn’t mean protecting the kids from you in a regular everyday thing. It means that they will protect you from outside people/things hurting you and your kids. You are looking at that phrase all wrong. There are a lot of breeds that are natural “protectors” be it live stock or people. Do you think that you have to train a sheep dog to protect the sheep? You think you have to buy a wolf and put one out there and let the dog bite it? You sound like you’re just regurgitating something you heard on another video without doing any research yourself.

I agree with you. I have a germanshipperd. And I started to training him from a puppy. You have to start early and you have to be the head of the pack. He can be aggressive. But he,s been trained to come off when he is ordered. People tend to think that the breed is natural. Most people have no clue on what they have. That's why serten breeds have bad reps and are band from country's. Dogs like germanshipperds and yours. Should not be handled by people who have no clue on what they are doing. It's not the animal it's the human.

I told him why I wanted a Doberman. He told me he'd send me a "gangster." At 7 months old, my dog leaped at drug dealer who was laying in wait, in front of my house. A bad element was using 3rd party rentals to get in. That's the only time he's gotten aggressive in 5 years. Dobermans are used to tree critters in Europe. They don't bite their prey. The "freeze" them, and wait for the owner. My guy has done it with opossum and billy goats. He may have frightened them, but he didn't bite. I don't have the money, time, or energy to do IPO or sleeve training. Besides, this type of training can backfire, if the dog miscues and bites the wrong person. He got aggressive with me once, as a teenager, but I asserted myself. I guess my comment is, I lean on good breeding over training. But I enjoy watching your instruction videos. I'd like to see more on training older dogs and not just dogs in their formative years.

I would argue that if you bought a malinois you don't have a choice but to get a professional trainer even if you DON'T want a protection dog. Unless you've had experience.

I take training protection dogs serious. My one mal naturally is a street fighting savage who isn’t cut out for protection work because he pops off too quickly. He has murder on his mind. My dogs that do bitework are actually more level headed. They don’t fly off the handle. They are more stable in their temperaments. I love my scrappy junk yard mal but to encourage him to bite would be a grave error. Instead he has mint obedience and a lot of management so he can be apart of our family with no issue. I caught this dog by the legs going out a second story window after the Amazon prime guy for talking to my 4 year old daughter. Sure that sounds cool till you realize this dog has changed my lifestyle and does restrict some things. My kids cannot have friends over because if he got out from some random chain of events it just would not be safe. Is he obedient? Hell yeah! Does he still want to kill eberyone left to his own devices? Absolutely

My dog has no protection training whatsoever. Now she is a stable minded intimidating looking animal. At best I’d call her a visual deterrent but absolutely not a security dog or tool in that manner.

I do appreciate the natural “might eat your face off” demeanor my mal has- I think it keeps the unwanted visitors guessing 😂 But no, having a “protective” dog is just another term for resource guarding people.

This isn’t meant to be snarky or smartassy but it seems like you’re comparing apples to oranges here. Those video clips you showed aren’t people who are claiming to have a trained protection dog, they’re just family pets who love their people and are “protecting” them. This is hugely and completely different from the types of protection dogs you’re talking about. I mean…come on…one of them was a golden retriever! Who would EVER consider their golden a legit protection dog?! LOLOL The videos themselves have the heart and LOL face emojis on them. Maybe you should’ve showed clips of other owners who have out of control Mals instead? I’m not sure who or what your message is directed to here. It kinda feels like you have a Bugatti and you’re pointing your finger criticizing the Prius owner who’s proud of the new features they have in their car (no offense to Prius owners 😬) Also, aren’t you the one who made the video that showed you with your dog barking at the cameraman. It was captioned to say something about women having a dog by their side is less likely to be targeted, so get a protection bestie, there’s nothing like the love of a Malinois. Watching those family videos of their pets “protecting” their people wouldn’t lead me to purchase a Mal, because those videos have absolutely nothing to do with wanting/getting a Mal or suddenly having an urge to have a protection dog, however, the aforementioned video you did…would. I would think to myself that looks cool AF, I want one too. Just my 2 cents.

From experience yes you have to train a dog to be a personal protection / guard dog. I have a German shepherd and Belgian Malinois that were trained and personal protection my brother-in-law recently bought a carne Corso.. he was told by various RU-vidrs that it's in the breathe nature to be a guard dog that they don't need training to protect you or your property, which is not true.. I told him he has to give the dog a proper training and bite work and Protection work again he didn't listen to me wrong by having himself and his brother dressed up as Robbers with bite suits on pretending to break into his own home so the dog can attack him. Proving that a dog doesn't need to be trained to protect you or your property.. to nobody surprise the dog ran away He barked a couple of times but he kept trying to run away and again this is a 120 lb dog , it doesn't matter what they're bred for doesn't matter what people on RU-vid says you need to train the dog :/ sorry for the word vomit i suck at English

This is true with respect to malinois because they are so prey driven but other breeds can and do protect “naturally” … but even this natural protection is not the same as trained protection which presents far less liability of course

My question is, have you ever had a none professionaly trained Malinois? I have two. They are brother and sister. 3 years old. When we have guests over they are fine with everything. But when it’s time for people to leave, us guys will do a man hug and tap on back. My dogs are there at the ready. Apparently thinking something is going on. Just my 2 cents.

My girl was a stray 'hood dog, and scared of humans. She kept jumping the fence to play with my flatmates dog and then she would bolt when she saw us. When she started letting me pet her, I realized how submissive she was. That was 6 months ago, and she's adapted to a life of love and affection. I'm under no illusion that she would protect me. That's why we take walks while I'm armed. She might need me to protect her too.

Hi right ok where do I start are you talking about American line working malinois or all? My boy is from some very serious working lines he is registered so I have his brn number if you would like to see his lineage my boy has had no protection training at all but I guarantee he knows when someone isn't right if anybody tries to get close and they don't look right he will not let them anywhere near me it's his instinct and it's not a 1 off I see this daily I walk 20 miles a day with my boy and he has always shown the same instinct no training just instinct ok so now we get to the training what sort of training does your mals do? I will guess at sleeve and body suit work and agitation with sticks also lots of noise that kind of thing cab I ask if you do hidden sleeve work? The reason I ask is a dog taught with sleeve and suit are not a protection dog they are more like a dun sport dog I believe that's more for the owner to big themselves up with the look at my trained protection dog and it costs thousands so again more of a status thing fir the owner ok so what do you think a sleeve and suit trained mal will do if you are attacked? I will tell you nothing not 1 thing not unless your attacker is wearing the sleeve and suit and I don't think that's gonna happen yu6see a dog trained that way is useless in real life not the dogs fault its the owners and I know I have seen it several times you can pay 50000 for a sleeve trained mal it still will not protect you because that's not how it's trained proper protection training is done with hidden sleeves so the attacker looks like you or me normal so real life not the pretend ego massaging of the sleeve stuff there are videos on RU-vid showing that what I am saying is correct also you say the most important part is getting the dog to bite is definitely not correct getting the dog to out is the most important part of the training a proper working line mal doesn't need to get over the fear of anything because the proper working lines don't have that fear and if they did they wouldn't make it in a serious working environment not in the uk anyway it might be different over there my boy and all his brothers and sisters are all nailed on solid no fear it's bred in to them it's instinct sorry I'm not jumping on you but I honestly think you are wrong or misguided please don't take all this wrong it's just what I think 😉

I think its 50/50 here. As in i see both views. If someone seems suspicious and your dog attacks, but that person still hasn’t done anything. You have a liability in your hands. And theirs also the does sleeve work rlly work for actual real life situations where they don’t see the sleeve. Bc in dogs, one variable u change in training.. its new to them and will throw them off their game in the unexpected. So ig pros and cons. I personally if i get a dog with guarding instincts, i ain’t spending money to get it trained for protection, you’re rich thats great, im not lmao. I cant with training for that work. But if he has basics trained, and the guarding instincts. I think it’ll do if his instincts r good. Bc with basic command established, he should have a recall and stay settled unless such situation happens

@Mandy Musolino It also depends on where you live, and the circumstances. THe law WILL HAVE TO CATER FOR US, WHEN A STRANGE man enters my home, and my wife and children are alone. My sign is up and my dog is legally fenced in. We have a God given right to defend. Woman are being targeted. My Canine will protect my wife, and daughters, with extreme tactical intelligence. My experience with muzzle work is the canine bites with devastating force, but also a great tool for control and handler pack synchronicity. The Great danger in modern canine training is the dog being addicted to the bite, and not tactically intelligent. Dogs feed of our energy. There's a major difference between offensive training and defensive training. Sending a dog through a window to bite, long send and impractical military strategy is not for the common homeowner. The current system is offensive: the bite is the God. The master should be God when working with dog. I will refrain from gambling with my family's safety. It's about responsible guardianship.

Very true. The golden and pitty were not protecting- the were being crazy and possibly don’t have good boundaries. There is a huge disconnect between a personal protection dog and these videos. Some dogs have better instincts for it, like your GSD, malinios, Dutch shepherds, dobermans, etc…but that doesn’t mean they “naturally,”!know how- training, and a lot of it, is needed. I think a lot is ignorance. Great video!!!

Goldens are the least protective/aggressive dog I’ve ever had. Crazy yes. Protective ? Not a chance. We had a golden chow mix who would have opened the door for anyone who would pet him, would watch him kill us all and then would go for a car ride with the bad guy.

It’s not recommended. As a former K-9 trainer, we started bite work training as a puppy to build up the drive into the dog and it also helps the decoy determine whether or not the dog is even suitable for bite work.
@MaligatorMom
@MaligatorMom 2 года назад
Yes, an older dog can do protection training if the trainer has assessed the dog and believes it’s well suited for the task 👍🏼 most “puppy protection training” is bite development, drive and confidence building.

- Training for dog protection is very, very expensive. Lots of hours of specific training involved. Very hard to find good trainers. Not every dog is suited for protection work. Otherwise I agree fully what has been said here in the video. /- -

Hey! Love your channel. I’m sorry to hear about your health, take care of yourself, I hope todays a better day. I completely agree! I have a mal/dutch shepherd, I’d say he’s wary of strangers not “protective”. I love training him, I’ve trained him with a trainer and taken him to a schutzhund seminar. But I live in a very small town and really only can work alone with him on a regular basis. Could you explain how schutzhund and personal protection training are similar and different? Is there any games/training someone could do on there own?

My Daisy is so far from being protective 😂. I love her but she tucks tail and hides on my side of the bed. We are trying to work on it but she is totally different from all the working dogs I’ve owned. That’s how I ended up here. I want my mal to listen now but definitely when she’s older.
