IMO, there are people that are just naturally gifted in certain talents such as sports, singing, dancing, speaking, etc...these individuals usually demonstrate these skills at an early age which allows them to excel in their chosen discipline fairly easily....in regards to singing the majority of "good" singers that I personally know are so-called natural singers...the most common characteristics that I observed was that these "natural singers" all seemed to possess what most people would refer to as a very pleasant or pleasing "voices" or "tone" ...not all of them could perform amazing vocal gymnastics or had stratospheric ranges... but they all had very nice resonances & some had very distinctive vocal nuances...I believe because of this they generally received very positive accolades & praise in their youth which encouraged them to develop their voices & singing style w/o fear of harsh criticism or teasing.
LOLO yes i agree with most, except end about praise-working with a few hundred naturals in high schools I met many kids who were afraid to develop their natural voice further, because they had a sibling or friend who was even better, or because a parent or family member or friend told them to not show off, or because they had a sensitive ear and felt that they were never good enough, even though they were above average. But i think they have a love for it and develop it to a degree, regardless of others' approval
It is definitely true that some individuals due to shyness, insecurities, or both may keep their natural talents hidden until later years... although from my experience naturally talented individuals that truly excel in a given disciplined usually have been encouraged by multiple individuals to explore their talents..however it is not uncommon to meet individuals that are naturally talented & actually receive praise but due their own self-doubt choose to ignore the praise bestowed upon them... In these types of scenarios you can even find successful artists that fit this mode...some talented people just do not believe that they are worthy & require an almost Svengali like person to manage and push them to excel.
haha yeah agreed big time. I think the shyness, fear may be due to the way schools and parents can be, so much bullying, competitiveness, students put against each other in classes, favourited by teachers, favourited by parents, parents treating kids in ways that aren't encouraging. But the fear of not sounding good is more of an internal fear from having a good ear and comparing to the best musicians who have likely trained a lot. But even that could be mixed with, "oh, im not as good as the singer that got up at school assembly, or as good as my sibling or parent, so i'm gunna say I suck"
Naturals have great ears and go through rough patches young. Most of all I feel they have a great memory. They can memorize pitches and different aspects of songs as un natural singers will just hear the song in whole and not pay attention to those important aspects. As you train by slowing down songs( which I do since I have learned about you and it has helped tremendously and most of all its fun) I feel natural singers slow down songs in their heads or just hear things more clearly
Yeah man, thats awesome about your son too. Definitely their memory capability is so much stronger, but that depends on their level of natural ability. I have two siblings that are naturals. One has an incredible memory and can hear complex chords and advanced fast runs, since he was 11. The other one can sing beautifully with perfect vibrato, basic runs, and great pitch, but can't memorize long runs or figure out difficult melodies. So your son's memory abilities must be special :) Thats great that my teaching method is helping, glad you are making progress and enjoying it
Some people just have good memory and can't sing ;). It all depends on how you process information. If you listen to the song enough you'll memorise it natural singer or not.
+xero spacious memorizing a song is not enough. It's memorizing and executing notes accurately on pitch and in time which makes the difference. Naturals learn these skills faster than average people.
I have the honor of watching a 3 year old singing pretty good, and he sings a lot but what impresses me most is his memory. Lyrics, pitch, and runs. Then they sing low as a child , building the coordination so then later in life they can add power to complete the picture
Yeah, singing is kinda just humming with syllables and vowels. Or just extended (cursive talking) with connected words on pitch and rythm when you really think about it
that is a lesson my friend, can't explain it here, because I dont know where your level is at and what you need help with. Consider doing Skype lessons. See my website for details.
I'm on pitch, but I don't have great tone. I mean, I think i sound bad. I've had people hear me when I'm singing and some have said I sound really decent. I don't think I believe them
I'm not sure if it's like.. them being nice. But they say it without me asking, or knowing their listening.. but I just sound bad to myself. It's difficult. I wish I could get a completely unbiased opinion
@@RnBSingingLessons wow you replied, yeah sure, makes me nervous lol but yeah I think I'd rather know. I'll sing something in the morning when people are awake, and I'll send it. Thank you man.
So many people think that. Its pitch accuracy combined with tone choices. You modify your tone to sound how you want it...the same way people can do impressions for example. You learn to create your unique sound
There really isn't such thing as a natural singer. It all has to do with whether or not you've grown up singing. I know two people, both brothers, the one grew up a music lover and always sang to himself and actually has a pretty good voice, whereas the other who didn't does not have such a good voice. Though I'm sure if the second guy would have sung just as much as the first, he would be as good.
I will make a video sharing my personal experience with my younger three siblings who I grew up with, so I know their exact stories. Natural ability is real, undeniably. Environment an practicing is a separate issue. I am referring to being highly skilled - stuff you would have to normally study from an advanced teacher/course - when you are only a teenager and never had a lesson.
One thing you have to realize as that every human is born with PERFECT technique. It's when we grow older where we lose that certain technique. (If not carefully followed) That's why babies can't do those very high pitched belting cries. By just singing to yourself at a young age will reassure your brain into continuing that technique. That's how some people are deemed "natural" singers. They just started at a young age. I have seen people at the age ranges of 16-20 who have gone from completely horrendous singers to very natural sounding singers in just a matter of two weeks. It's all about technique! Of course, I'm not doubting you on your experiences. Just my thought on the subject matter!
where did you get this idea that we are born singers and lose it? And how do you make people natural sounding after two weeks? Cos that would really help me speed things up with students and myself!
