These messages could not have come at a better time for my family. My firstborn was just parenting on easy mode. The kid just naturally went along with the program, read her Bible, was extremely ambitious to grow, and moderated screen time by herself, diving into school work and exploring different hobbies. Our second born, I feel like we're first time parents. This kid is a challenge waking up, a challenge at every meal time, a challenge to socialize, a challenge to get to the bathroom, to take a bath, to get to bed, and a challenge even when we're just wanting to play games and interact with her on a fun level. Almost every interaction ends in us having to discipline her. I'm turning 48 and I have this little hellion of a 5 year old. I need prayer and tons of council, lol. Timeouts and silent treatment to work my way back into my mother's good graces never appealed to me, Scripture is clear on sparing the rod... If earnest a belt was awarded, and on special occasion a razor strap (and I earned it) nice thing about Dad's approach was you Knew what it was for, and punishment was as swift and thoughtless as my actions and BEST PART ? It was Over, life went on and all was forgotten. So needless to say I never had much taste for either approach with my own children, I appealed to their conscience and levied grounding from toys, video games, then phones and eventually transportation😅 It's a rough job, some like me require more... I personally am thankful all my father had to do was motion towards his belt buckle for me to fall in line... And it's with fear and trembling that I have the same love and reverence for my Father in Heaven.
