Hey Trev, great comparison video. Keep it up. I gotta say that its worth mentioning that the cloudup comes with a footprint and also that the grey version weighs in less than the green version. Not to mention that it can be pitched using the fly only reducing weight even further. I love my cloudup. Cheers from the land down under mate.

Gotta start getting into using those trekking poles Trev.... I remember you have complained a few times about your knee joints giving you pain... the poles really help with that especially on those longer downhill stretches... I love both my lanshan 2 and cloudup 2.... I would say that if I was expecting bad weather on a hike I would tend towards the cloudup. Oh btw on the Lanshan you should double up on the corner pegs for the fly and the floor … that way you don't need any extra pegs. Some people replace the vestibule pegs with longer aluminum ones as they can pull out especially in strong winds... again though a very honest video with some great points … thanks

Yea, I have knee braces that seem to keep my knees at bay at the moment but I know what you mean. I tend to sway towards the cloud up for any bad weather too but I will take the lanshan out in some sh*t weather on Dartmoor at some point and give it a good test. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for posting this. I've been looking at different light or ultralight tents for my bugiut bag and I've heard another RU-vidr ALSO state that the Lanshan 2 is a bit finnicky to put up so you're not the only one that thinks that. It's something to consider, especially for the less experienced backpacker. Thank you

Really helpful vid, thanks. Aside from ditching the goundsheets or inners, how light do you think you could get these two? Maybe by ditching the inner storage bags, swapping to ti pegs, replacing guy lines etc. Maybe even using fixed carbon poles on the Lanshan?

Hi Alan - well there is plenty of vids out in the Naturehike, so far my tent of choice - lightweight, easy to put up and fairly stable, although it does pay to put extra guy ropes to it! Thanks for watching and good luck tent shopping in April.

Hi Trev, I have recently tested the Lanshan 2 in some very windy conditions in the Lake District. On both occasions the tent pegs that came with the tent failed to hold. Also one of the plastic hook clips which attaches the vestibule door guide ropes to the vestibule peg snapped in the wind. I would strongly recommend changing the tent pegs for longer aluminium pegs. This may save you having a collapsed tent in the early hours. Apart from the pegs and plastic hook clip the tent held up well in very strong winds. Look forward to your review of the winter inner tent . Cheers Mike Outdoors.

For me, my cloud up 2 (pre-upgrade) is a bit on the small side. I can do a diagonal lay but I hate it, and straight up I can only lie in the fetal position. Unfortunately the regular lanshan 2 is barely bigger, although the pro seems to be. I thought I’d buy 3f ul gear 2-3 person pyramid, which is huge, but it’s also out of stock all over the place.

Hi Trev. I have a cloud up 2 upgraded in grey. I like that in those spots where condensation is unavoidable the solid panels keep me and the inner floor dry. Weight is ok for the money, easy to set up. Cons is front entry is pain in bum and a poor use of space but I think if the wind is consistent from one direction, put the non door end in wind and that will justify the one door. The pegs that came with it are not great, bent one in my backyard. Buy a dozen of MSR ground hogs. I suggest as a video idea a good comparison of the offerings of Nature Hike would be the Star River and the Cloud Up 2. Come on Naturehike, give Trev one of each to review and give away!
@SummitOrNothing
@SummitOrNothing 4 года назад
Haha! I have one of each, actually - I will have to get that video made at some point. I haven't had much trouble with the pegs myself, but I always find that when I set up in to the wind - with the back end pointing into it - before too long, the wind changes and the sail like design is catching the full force of the wind. Thanks for watching, Jack!

Thanks for giving the weight of the Lanshan without your poles. While trying to keep weight down for your back your poles are serving a duel purpose. Your assembly time is biased though as you won’t be fully collapsing or expanding your trekking poles for use on the trail. Thanks for the review though.

i'm new to your videos but i do know that the tent works similar to my six moons tent and while watching i noticed that you use two pegs at the doors...only one is supposed to be used which it also why your not getting proper tention on the tent. the guyline is supposed to come down from the top, knot at where the peg goes into the ground and the continue on to the door inself. also one peg for each corner, the inner tent is on bungee cord bc it pulls out and goes over the same corner peg as is holding the outside corner.

Summit Or Nothing Just a little note to this correct pricedure: when you peg out the 4 corner leave no tension at all. Put your poles at 125/130cm, give tension on the 4 cornets as the last thing to do, just before puttong the 2 side guy lines. You will have a drum solid fly. Then adjust the tension of the inner tent on the corners.

I'm loving my cloud up 2. Took it on a week long bike packing trip with no problems. By some kinda quirk of amazon i got it for £71, i was meant to pay £80. But no complaints there. Its a great tent for the money for sure, but as i said in the amazon revue. We all know its an MSR knock off. And it is what i term a 1 man in comfort tent. time will tell if i should have gone for a more expensive one. I also like the optional mesh only feature, considering some of the hot summer nights we've had in recent years.

Nice comparison 👍I am a Lanshan 2 and owner had the same issue as you with the pegs that came with it, they're crap in softer ground. Swapped them out for some titanium V pegs and no issues, and no need to double peg for inner and outer. I've also had it out in some atrocious conditions a few times on Kinder Scout.. One time in 50mph (ish) winds and sideways rain, and found that pointing a door in to the wind and pegging it straight down instead of connecting it to the guy line worked well and it took a beating with ease, and I had the opposite door open most of the time too! Good little tent, especially for the price!

Great comparison, very useful reactions! I bought the grey Cloud 2 upgrade. The Lanshan 2 was so cheap, I thought it had to be crap. But after seeing some positive reviews I bought it anyway, because of the weight difference. Probably like many people here. I use a 3f ul raincoat/backpack cover as footprint, to save even more weight - works well. My favorite of the two so far is the Lanshan 2, even on bike trips when weight is not a big issue. I have both of the tents and I can’t stand the single front entrance of the Cloud Up. Much more convenient for me the two lateral doors of the Lanshan. And I use tracking poles, so even the weight of the Lanshan makes me prefer this one. Btw, for the Lanshan you can have a 4 seasons inner tent.

The main reason I steer clear of trekking pole tents, is that I wouldn't want to be out in the wilds with nothing to prop the bugger up if a pole breaks -- and I have seen plenty snap over the years. (although it hasn't happened to me personally yet)

Lanshan 2 : It's light, I bought carbon poles. It's big for the weight. It pitches fly first. It has has two porches & doors. But... It's possible for a bad pitch to give you contact between fly and inner. You may want to tweak things to get a nice pitch (I retired the inner to fly elastics to drop the knner). There can be a large air gap low down. All in all, is it perfect? No, but I like mine.

Bigfoot had a great hack on putting up a tent that uses trekking poles. Stake out one side, move to the other side and put up a trekking pole/stake out the vestibule. Move back to the other side and put up the other trekking pole/stake out the vestibule. Move back to the other side and stake out the sides. Finish by staking out the ends. Brilliant!

hey Summit or Nothing :) tks for the vid, good points but I must admit you did poor job with pitching lanshan 2, takes leisurely 5 min and is nice and tense, height 115cm for more ventilation 120cm, held fine in big winds, weight for the lanshan2 pro 1000gr for two persons, you can get better only with expensive zpacks or big agnes, most of us use trekking poles anyway, I wouldn't add it to the weight of the shelter, the pegs poor quality, exchanged them for six titanium shepherd hooks (6gr each) and two sierra designs pegs for the main trekking poles guy lines(10gr each) all together pegs 56gr. comparing to cloud up 2: lighter, more space, more vestibule space-gear, cooking, (I own also lanshan 2 double wall, with lighter pegs and no stuff sacks 1250gr) I keep shelter in the outside mesh pocket, most of the time it is a bit wet with either rain or condensation, drying if possible during the day, take care :)

Why is my lanshan 2 only 1150 grams? Or better why is yours heavier? Weighed mine in the stuff sack, with stakes and everything right how it came frome the manufacturer. My poles make 490 (Decathlon 15€ per piece) so the set comes in around 1600 grams. Which is fairly light. Still doesn't answer why yours is so "heavy".

You shouldn't add polls to weight....your carrying them with either tent...completely flawed..add the polls to cloud up too...or hike without them when using cloud up tent...
@SummitOrNothing
@SummitOrNothing 4 года назад
I do tend to take the poles only if I am tarping or using the Lanshan. I rarely pack them with the cloud up, so not flawed. I just wanted to see if I was better off packing the Lanshan and my poles or the Cloud Up. But if you do carry the poles anyway, then I have included the weight of the Lanshan with or without... so all the information is there.

@@scottyplug I haven't undone any knots, and I have tried to single peg the corners in previous outings and the bathtub bottom never really sat right. I feel more confident having extra pegs. I have been out several times and found that despite watching various videos the lanshan is a lot more fiddly than the Naturehike. I never profess to being a pro, just an honest idiot as my viewers have come to expect.
