Alan! I had the pleasure of meeting you and your wife back in 2018 in Patagonia while we were waiting for the ferry to go to Chile Chico. You were both so lovely to talk to, though at the time I wasn't aware of ultralight yet. My friends and I are planning a trip up into GoTA national park this year and I was wondering what your daily mileage was? We are planning an 8-day trip and I want to know how much we can cover for route planning purposes.

Fantastic to hear from you V. No hiking is easy in Alaska. Footing is rarely solid. I would not expect even a fit hiker to assume more than 10 miles per day - at least until they've logged a few weeks of AK travel and know their hiking pace. That being said in the summer you essentially have 24 hours of daylight to hike. So it will also end up being and endurance thing. That is hiking speed is not as important. Enjoy Gates of the Arctic!
