So you’re telling me, despite being severely wounded Mike managed to neutralize four enemy combatants, secure two prisoners, rescue six woman and children and evacuate himself to an awaiting helicopter. He only got the navy cross? What he did was well over Medal of Honor worthy. He stopped the dude running out with the grenade (which saved people), shot the two insurgents who was firing at his teammates evacuating the building (saving them), all while being shot 27 times and getting knocked out from a grenade. I’ve seen people get Medals of Honor for lesser actions, not discounting what they did either. But he 100% deserves the highest medal for valor.
@spudhead5614

The medal of honour requires another person to see all of it
@fz1000red
@fz1000red 4 года назад
@@spudhead5614 the US doesn't have a "medal of valour" as you mentioned. Readers can assume you mean Medal of Honor. As for the requirement of an eyewitness, that isn't a rule carved in stone. Today there is an overwhelming amount of digital technology carried into combat that can be examined by command staff later, plus there is a fairly extensive use of overhead or unmanned and manned aerial observation and recording providing decision-making that was not available during past wars.
@spudhead5614
@spudhead5614 4 года назад
@Green MarineFive-O I understand that but Mike was inside a building where he could not be seen by UAV or manned aircraft, also with no camera so there was no way for it to be recorded. My point still stands

Why?
@mcz1945
@mcz1945 4 года назад
Not really, and I am not trying to downplay what he did. Like he said himself he was acting on instinct. It was a well executed combat maneuver considering the circumstances but Medal of Honor recipients are people who were told or themselves recognized that what they are doing is almost certainly lethal, thought about it and did it, basically people who made decisions. This is not what happened to Mike, Mike got in and out of a bad situation. I read many stories about Medal of Honor recipients, mostly WW2 and this is really not enough for Medal of Honor. This is just my opinion of course, I could be wrong but this is what I understood from all the stories I read about the Medal of Honor recipients.

@chandlercarroll3242
@chandlercarroll3242 3 года назад
@@joulupukki1607 yea but it’s one thing to say that, it’s another to get shot up and almost die, then wake up and have the strength and determination to take out 2 guys with Ak’s. 99% of people would’ve laid there and died or tried to shoot back and missed which would’ve gotten them killed also. Even with his courage that’s a one in a million chance to win that battle, the element of surprise was probably the deciding factor.
@joulupukki1607

@@chandlercarroll3242 when you in house like this dude was when he got shot u just dont miss when target is max 20ft away and that if u able to shoot if u injured and i been in situations where its life and death and when my survival instic kick in i know i wouöd get myself out there if i was able to move. I have never been gun fight but once when i was drinkin and my friends house caught fire and i was blackout drunk i wake up(ppl yelled me at downstair) and i was so drunk i realized smoke but i hardly couldnt move until my brains said u gonna die in these toxic gasses if u dont move right now i broke window at chair and jumped on some bushes so i could imagine that kind of feeling u get when your enemy territory and you know if u just lay u might die
@chandlercarroll3242
@chandlercarroll3242 3 года назад
@@joulupukki1607 well glad you didn’t die but you’re missing the point, for one you can definitely miss someone across a room, especially with a ton of gunshots flying which causes you to hide while shooting, it’s not like some target practice or a game. Also, when you’ve been riddled with bullets from Ak’s and almost blasted by a grenade your body is probably going into shock, therefore it would be hard to move a finger much less grab your gun and actually do something. It’s not about the life or death moment, it’s the fact that this guy was basically already murdered yet he didn’t let that stop him. Imagine if you woke up and you were actually on fire, like your whole body had been burning for 2 minutes already! You wouldn’t think about grabbing that chair, you’d roll on the ground frozen in fear until you were a crisp.

@@adopodrinje1499 Your off base in life. The war that the USA created?? The war was created based on 9/11 the terrorist who flew airplanes ✈️ into the World Trade Center and Pentagon and crashed into Pennsylvania trying to kill more Americans. The war was for all of the innocent Americans who lost there lives on 9/11. Your ignorance is next to your arrogance!! Go sell crazy somewhere else we are all stocked up over here!!🖕🥴🖕 Thank you to all of the military personnel all first responders police officers doctors & nurses fire fighters everyone involved in supporting the 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸

@walterknight1550 2 года назад
DF is absolutely correct, how free would we be if 9-11 happened 2-3 times. We would all be scared to travel by air. We would be afraid to go to any large cities. The people who had to travel, who had to work in big cities. They would live in fear. You cannot live in fear and be freedom. Freedom is the most important thing the American Patriot has its more important than our lives. Mike Day believes freedom is more important than his life and he proved it for 21 years, he continues to train America’s best. On 9-11 my grown daughter called me from Pennsylvania, she was afraid, so many had died she said. Mohammad bin Ladin had won a victory. I tol her the news media was wrong, there was no victory for the terrorist, I told her there were over 40,000 men and women were in the trade center and only a few thousand who died. Because of the brave police and fighters who got so many people out of the burning buildings men who gave their lives so others could live. I told her the damages to the Pentagon was bad but should have been worse. I told her that the White House and the Capital were okay due to the bravery of passengers on the flight that crashed into the ground, and that the lives they saved when they died for freedom. I told her the terrorist attack was a failure because so many more Americans would have to die for it to be a terrorist victory. So many brave men and women did die that day. But President Bush and Obama took decisive action and took the fight to the terrorist. Brave men and women lost their lives in the terrorist wars that followed. Listen to Mike Day he knows the value of freedom even if you do not.

I actually met Mike at a restaurant at the beach. He was seated next to my family at the bar area while we waited for a table. He looked very familiar to me, but I was having trouble hearing him well on the other side of my spouse. After some time and questions, he mentioned being shot numerous times, and I remembered seeing him interviewed. He is an extremely humble guy, very modest, and one of a kind. In hind sight, I would love the opportunity to chat with him about many things other than this event, given his comment about this event not being the most influential thing that happened to him. I heard his plans for the future, and wish him the best of luck, he deserves it. God bless the rest of your journey Mike Day.

I can attest to the visual slow down of the action. When the human body has a massive surge of adrenalin it thinks so fast that it slows down the action to be able to ascertain what is going on to survive. So basically it is the instinct to survive. Which they teach seals. This man is an asset to all American people that are alive today. Nothing but respect towards he and all his team.
@hewhoderps4362

I’ve sort of been curious about that actually. It seems odd that time can actually slow down for people. It’s just weird to think about two people perceiving the same events at different speeds because of adrenaline. The human body is a weird thing.
@ChickentNug
@ChickentNug 2 года назад
@@hewhoderps4362 from what I have heard(I'm pretty sure it's true), your perception is based off of(or at least correlates to) the speed of your metabolism. So if you have a high metabolism, you will see stuff in a slower speed vs if you have a low metabolism. It would make sense evolutionarily so that bugs didnt have a sensory overload when they were flying fast and sloths wouldnt waste their energy on information that they cant even react to in time. Also this might partially explain why when you're young time seems to go way slower than when you're older.(especially between being a preteen vs pubescent) This part is entirely speculation, but I'm pretty sure adrenaline increases your metabolism significantly in a short period of time, so if all of the shit I've just said is true, that would check out. It isn't like people are lying when they say time seems to slow down when something crazy happens. There has to be some chemistry behind it

Love this!!! I gained an understanding of the value of training in boot. We were doing nuke drills, and day long the DS would say BOOM and we’d all drop and assume the position. Then the DS would say the blast has past and the debris has stop falling, recover, and we’d all get up and do it again. Well at the end of that evolution they had a surprise. We didn’t know but they had pyro set up as well as being wired for sound. They popped off the big bright blast with a earth rumbling roar from the sound system and the whole company hit the deck instinctively. I learned the value of training that day and never thought of it as just repetition again.

I know that this had to be a very traumatizing event for him, I know I would be traumatized. But, I agree with you that they should make a movie about him, but not just about that experience. But also about the other things that he's experienced in his life, perhaps from his childhood to what his life is like today. I would definitely watch it. His strength, both physically and mentally; his courage; his humility; his will to survive, and the fact that even with 27 bullets wounds and shrapnel from the grenade, he actually WALKED TO THE EVAC HELICOPTER, IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE thing I have ever heard of. The fact that he's still here speaks volumes about the kind of man he is. He seems to be very humble, and he doesn't seem to think that he is a hero. But, I must say, he is one of the greatest heroes to have ever served in our armed forces. I have MAJOR RESPECT for him. I pray that he gets to enjoy peace, love, light, and happiness for all the days of his life.
