My vote is for 2k to do what EA sports does with FIFA and Madden now. Have 2 career modes. One that is mainly story like with Alex Hunter in FIFA where you play through a story One that is basic and more barebones career mode where there’s no story and just some fun career gameplay. This allows those who want story to play it out and those who just wanna have fun and play as themselves and dominate to their enjoyment.

Not even gonna lie, the prelude this year was actually really interesting

I always play Mycareer, and the prelude was pretty good. It's definitely a step up from last year, and I can't wait for this game to drop

Honestly just miss the old draft combine/summer league/training camp in 2k10 and 11 it was like you said challenging to the point where if you struggled you were sent to the D-League. I Even prefer that endorsement system and press conferences. Once the VC got introduced it became a a cash grab and a cringe and constant reach to show they were up with the current trends. Especially in 18, I honestly preferred live 18s career because it gave me those old feelings kept it simple and was the most fun I had in a career since 2k12

Honestly I would prefer if the mycareer just had plenty of realistic options altogether. Being able to choose however many years playing in college, going overseas by choice, being bad enough to be in the D-League, or just have something like Donovan Mitchell's rookie season. It would also help a lot if we were able to import rookie classes, that way we actually have competition that lasts a long time

The story isn’t that bad tbh better than last years plus you can skip after you go through the first time

For everybody that wants that old 2k13 myCareer experience. Just create a player, copy him into a myLeague roster, and use player lock. Now you can imagine any career you want. Ive been doing it since 15.

I dont feel the need to skip the cutscenes this year, the story is mildly entertaining which is all I'm asking for. No booboo or lil b fresh to ruin your experience and personnally I didn't cringe this time. I don't think you can expect a single player mode to keep you playing for more than 1 month or 2 which is fine. Like you said, once we get bored with MyCareer we go to the park and that's ok.

It's simple why you can never get through my career, it's repetitive as hell. My career mode as a whole is not even fun, especially with the micro-transactions that make you not wanna work for the VC and player upgrades. I started running 2k in 2k11, but my first my career was in 2k12, I got through 5 seasons and it was great. From then on I never played more than a dozen games in any my career after 2k12. It's just not fun, I enjoyed modes like blacktop for my career in 2k13 and the crew version in 2k14, also somewhat enjoyed park in 2k17 but getting through seasons of my career playing with the AI is just far too boring and repetitive at this point.

I don't know why 2k wants to make a story so bad. It's a NBA career there isn't a way you can make a story to it. We are all achieving one goal and that's to get to the HOF. there's no need for a story. The choices we get are meaningless. The only real choice we have is what shoe deal we want. After that nothing matters. Not what we say at the press conference or whatever. Nothing serves any relevance. This is why ive always been against the whole story idea. Because it's just there and serves no point. And it's always THE same like I was saying with the choices there is no customization

I just stopped playing my career when the story lines were added. It’s not what I’m here for, I’m here to play a basketball game not watch a show that they try to make me believe is up to me but it is obviously pre determined what will happen for all characters. The park and pro-am are ok but it gets to the point where nobody plays proper basketball and decides to always set a screen or always hangs under the basket. Then there are those people that decide that the game is made for them and they should shoot eveytime they get the ball. As Dom said my career has been easy recently and it seems like I have to play on 5 minute quarters just so I don’t average 60-20-20 with my small forward. Even then I damn near average a 30 point triple double as an 86 overall rookie and lead the lakers to a championship. The whole undrafted thing is just overplayed, you don’t even play a game and they throw you in all depressed and shit then have to follow their story to get on any roster you choose like it just happens. Now how does 2k fix this? My opinion is to start everybody out with a 70 for every stat no matter what position. If you do well in an area you get gifted a higher stat for that area, if you don’t use it you lose it. Then the player is purely yours and very hard to replicate. Do this over college and combine games and drills. Max rating a player can end up with is 80 (and that’s very rare), lowest rating is a 60 (if they are just terrible). Then a team may draft you based on team needs and the assets you provide. For example you earn yourself a 73 overall and you pick to be a power forward. A team like the hornets may decide that they will pick you in the late lottery.

and this is why i miss 2k11/2k12, d-league, summer camp, training compound. Miss REAL basketball stuff. I dont care about this story shit.

2k stopped the custom rosters because people used to edit EVERY player to being 5-7 50 overalls so they could easily dominate my career smh

Lol Prelude is a forced waste of time. Anytime I got the ball i'd jack it up from half court. I'd be 0 for 13 or whatever and I still made it to the nba. If you're going to force mycareer at least have a realistic outcome if you play like crap. The Chines team would have cut me after 2 games and I'd have ended up with a career at McDonald's

I'm under the thought that cringe is an art form. And I feel like the people who write the my career story just try to out cringe themselves. I feel like this year the executives told them they had to take it a little seriously though which is why it wasn't as bad as last year.

What is the point of playing mycareer without the "drama", tho? If that's what you are looking for, just play myleague with your created player, like the create a legend mode. Mycareer without the cinematics, is dry. It may be cringe, sometimes, because the writers suck, but it doesn't make sense to not have the story. It should just be improved upon, to make it more realistic, which they are trying to do. But they also want that money from casual players, so they are always going to try to cater to people with no skill, so that they can just pick it up and play. Gotta find a balance.

Not sure if the game I want to be made would take to long or be to much as far cost but I want a true experience not forced decisions etc. Why can't it be multiple different choices you can make and multiple different backstories and outcomes based upon your decisions and position like maybe really good in HS go d1 and my backstory is completely different than the the guy who was a walk on and underdog but have it in the same game and have the outcome cutscenes and dialogue between players Analyst etc. Be different based off of what is actually happening in he like the anylyst shouldn't speak on me a college walk on like they would if I'm a college phenom

I just want branching storyline where if I have a good or bad game things change depending on how I play. When I pick answers to things I want it to change my career maybe I keep talking shit about the management or other players so they trade me randomly or if I'm a superstar I can get my teammates traded and how change my team like Bron lol just making my career feel like it's mine and not some script I have to follow like everybody else. That's what makes my career boring so until they do that it's going to not keep our attention

Seems like this will easily be the best story in the series, but the prelude seemed way to short this year, maybe not. The things like the dunk options mid game that lead to a scripted scene takes away the immersion. I did enjoy the choice option to help him up or not during that scene and how that impacts the story, but you have to keep the scripted stuff out of the actual game. I also agree that the mode feels really easy but I was ok with that since they started me out as a 60 so it at least made it seem like I could really play. LOL I agree that 2K will truly benefit by having standard cut scenes, etc that play out based on your decisions off the court and play on the court. Then simply add features every year to enhance the experience. I mean I'm still looking forward to the full story, but as a total game package, I was also really hoping another lebron mode this year to go along gn with my career and my gm. I also hope that 2K actually gets to the place of putting out a full demo because now I'm back to playing NBA live while I wait on 2K to drop. Give us a full demo to check out some of the other modes! Last thing, was it mean or did it seem like my character was whining like a little bee-othch throughout the story? I was actually feeling MC Ren's character more than I was my own. Was that just me or did others feel the same way?

I play 2k for the park/playground but 2k my career is superior to nba live because it’s not JUST BASKETBALL. They are making it true to life. Basketball players have lives outside of just playing games and doing interviews. Now when the script ends then I just play for badges, which I’m ok with because it’s impossible for them to make a story that will last you the length of a players whole career.

I don’t really like how people always say that mycareer is easy but not once have I heard, “I went to the NBA finals on HoF with the Phoenix Suns.” As you said, you can pick any team, so don’t pick the better team, and always pick the challenge over a push over

You took the words out of my mouth. My career is so unrealistic. I want to have realistic stats that a rookie would have. Every time I’ve played this game mode I end up being the best player in the league before all-star break and this is without VC.

It was 2K14.... I was a Center, and legends were all over the roster. I got drafted to the 76ers with AI...averaged 37 12 and 4 with 3 steals and 4.5 blocks Shaq hit free agency because he was tired of Orlando..... He joined GSW🤦🏽‍♂️ Honestly it was a great mode that I played until I got a PS4 and 2K19. I love Mycareer by the way, I understand it’s a basketball game and the story doesn’t have to be great but I found it awesome. Unfortunately the story really cuts after the prelude😕

We need to get rid of VC in general people literally buy their talent, it takes away from the meaning of playing all those quick games, playing career mode and improving your guy with SKILL points. How about we have 3 paths ( similar to madden ) early draft pick, late round pick, undrafted ..... 3 totally different storylines. Your starting overall is reflected by which you choose for example undrafted would be 60-65 Range late round 68-72 early pick 74-78. They should also limit the overall you can be. I know the premise of this sounds stupid but the game is literally boring when you go from a 70 to a 99 in just two seasons it’s very unrealistic and repetitive.

They should stop making it so easy to win MVP and DPOY and etc. Like u said u could get drafted by bottom feeders like the Magic average 32 11 and 3(PG stats) and sweep everybody en route to a title in your ROOKIE SEASON😭😭😭. That needs to be fixed

(this is all under the impression that game is actually hard and you do not use VC from outside my career aka your character is 65 ovr) Here's what I want: Start - high school Depending on how you play, you could choose a d1/d2/d3 college. The teamates could also have an effect on the story. (after year 1 you can choose to leave) At each college, there are branching storylines with decisions that actually matter, unlike the firework decision in the prelude. (Most outcomes should have some negative side effect to your draft stock or even cause you to go undrafted) If after college you can pick a manager from many managers that have effects on the story depending on their personality/interest (good or bad). After college, you can go undrafted/ teams don't want you because of your behavior you can go to the g-league or China. AGAIN DEPENDING ON YOUR PLAY different story trees are gone through depending on where you go and AGAIN depending on your play you could gain NBA interest. from then on it could be normal 2k, but this would make it spicy. And not every story needs a love interest.

One thing that proves to me just how lazy 2k is is how they lie about your player's overall every year. If your MyPlayer is an 85 overall in 2k17 or 2k18 and you put all his attributes into the "create a player" mode you'll end up with a guy that has an overall of like 72. If 2k really cared about making MyCareer better they'd up the difficulty (the actual DIFFICULTY, not the cheese where the AI can get away with stupid shit) and not lie about your overall. Also, the upgrade/archetype system could be a lot better.

2k should do a hybrid, less cutscenes only for important things, but keep the focus on basketball like 2k11

I like the story not 2018, but 2016 with Spike was dope.

I don't get why they can't just cut the cutscene shit and let us play out our career like a normal NBA player. Let us start in high school, pick our college, play for our draft status and then at the end of the college season, let us choose if we want to stay for another year or go to the draft, and then we get drafted based on our play in college. There, that's all we want 2k

Do you recommend this game for casual players or just for hardcore players? I ask because I have 2k14 but they killed the servers. I loved that game, but now its dead in my game collection and I am FORCED to buy the new games when I was satisfied. Is this something the casual player should be expecting? That one day this game I play from time to time will be actually dead digitally?

I miss the NBA 2k11 MyPlayer mode. The NBA draft combine, the possibility to get to the D League if you sucked, the whole mode revolving around gameplay instead of a stupid storyline, the possibility to choose more than 2 answers in interviews, and no stupid preset name or nickname.

I've never played basketball games myself and I bought the game a few weeks ago. I played forward for the sixers (playmaking rim protector lmao) and averaged 17 points, 9 assists and 11 rebounds for my rookie season. 16-0 through the playoffs and I'm only yet like, 77 overall. I really liked the presumption of having a real career and a breakthrough with a basketball team that needed a spark but not a bonafide hall of famer performance throughout 98 games loool

I’m surprised by the amount of positive comments people are saying about this. Yes the story seems less cringe and a bit more involved. But it’s still the same color in between the lines, insert new player nickname (which is A.I this time for some reason, they couldn’t use one that hasn’t been a real player name?), new game play quirk ( “takeover mode”) and rinse and repeat. We still haven’t got the one easy fix that I wanted which was let us play offline if we want so we can make a God player. The whole point of playing my career for me has always been to make somebody Jordan level, and you can’t anymore because of the focus on online and the VC money grubbing. I’m not excited for this game at all, I haven’t been looking forward to a 2K since 13

in 2k18, I averaged 60 points 18 assists and 6 steals and swept the playoffs including the warriors and won roty, mvp, finals mvp while having a 105 point game XD

I know it's allowing 2K to cop out of improving the mode, but try playing MyLeague with a created player and player lock on his position. Sim when they're on the bench. It is a much more customizable experience.

Technically you guys can do what you're talking about if you start a myleague and add a player lock so it's like my career like this year they've added like all the draft classes back to like 1969 or something and now you can start in for example MJ's first year, player lock yourself to MJ and play out MJ's WHOLE career the way you want, as long as they were drafted after 1969

I was really hoping this year’s MyPlayer story would consist of of a former Washington General player coming out retirement to try and make an NBA roster in order to save the local youth center from a fat cat real estate developer who wants to bulldoze the building to build a Globo Gym Headquarters .."...

They’re gonna beef up the prelude to the maximum. Making the storyline seem extra deep and thought out but when you reach the story beyond China, it’s going to be about as dry as 2k18 and 17 were. Especially after year 1. History will repeat itself

I remember in 2k10 they had come out with what is now the prelude, but it was like a mycareer draft combine where you'd be able to earn extra VC and help your draft stock before you get drafted. Even with that you'd get matched up with john wall and other top 10 draft players and they'd make you sweat. In fact, there was a chance that you'd play so bad that you could've ended up being drafted in the second round or not at all and starting your season in the then D-league. Once you moved up to NBA your spot wasn't secure because if you played bad you could've been sent back down

you should be able to choose the Different Era’s you play in like 60s 70s and all that. You would have to deal with different Rules and really with a different Basketball game from what we have now. You would have to make a different build for every Era like a Post Dominant Player for when theres no 3 point line and just adjust to your Opponents.

In my second season of Mycarrer I am averaging 107 points 20 rebounds 5assists 3blocks and 4 steals per game in HOF difficulty :/

Yeah it was 2k13 i remember i had my PG playing micheal & scottie in the ECF beat him in 7 games had reggie miller & the pacers 2nd round, Derrick coleman & kenny Anderson 1st round

What people don’t understand is that mycareer has changed and is more focused on park. You’re supposed to just play the games with little difficulty, so you can upgrade your player, badges, etc. You grind so you can play against the real challenge of park and pro-am. Mycareer isn’t just about winning the nba championship anymore.

I wasn't enthusiastic about 2k19 cause I feel like 2k18 burned me out but I enjoyed it for what it was, story included (i did hate that we could not skip the cutscene though.). This story and the gameplay got my attention. I think you are too overly critical on some points but I do think you are spot on with others. Customization of my career would be great. And I 100% agree that we are at a point where I dont thin 2k can stop the story within my career with the standard they have set.

You said it perfectly. That joint is just too easy. I had to make a 6ft PG just to make it difficult for myself in the career (cuz 2k doesn’t respect short players no matter the overall). The downside to that is that I’m handicapped in the park and Pro AM

I thought most people played my career to have fun on a casual mode. I personally just play my career to grind badges. Upping the difficulty just makes it annoying. The story is pretty good and is just makes it bearable while grinding.

If u play the Warriors on HOF u will definitely get a challenge. Its easy to be so great in your first MyCareer season bc u can basically be a 90 ovr immediately. Theres not that many 90 ovrs in the NBA so thats why u dominate as a rookie

Idk about y'all but I'm fucking tired of always having to be a point guard cause the CPU will sit there dribbling the ball at the top of the key with no off Ball movement or anything. I hate having to always be the same player every year cause the CPU is and always has been fucking trash

I never touch myCareer and never will... I hate not controlling the whole team and like you said it's to easy! MyCareer is for kids in middle school... like come on who wants to buy a game and play computer to whole time! But it would be cool if they had a story mode where it took place in the 90's and an option to play current year nba but I still wouldn't play it

I play my career on pc, Every starter on every team is cheated to have 99 everything and tendencies tweaked a bit plus I messed with the benches on teams to make them decent so I'm not down by 15 then they put in a 66ovr and I blow him up to catch up it's pretty fun. My career is so empty because 2k doesn't care about it outside those cutscnes it got empty because of Park probably going to be even less of a mode since they tryna esprts shit up, My career just a place for people to train badges or find some glitch for vc.

I hate playing mycareer after like one season. They're just computers. Too repetitive. I'd rather play online. No matter how good the story might be. It will always get boring to me

I feel like most people buy 2K for roster updates, rookies and player ratings. I already knew not to buy this junk after seeing a gameplay trailer. The glitches are just unacceptable and the game looks as basic and stale as the last few releases. This game is going to stay trash unless Live blow them out of the way somehow or people stop buying which is unlikely.

The reason why 2k doesn't want us to skip the cutscenes ( or really anything), so it makes the game feel forever, then we don't want to play as much, and thus we buy more VC.

It sounds like you are just good at the game if it’s too easy. You have probably played so much 2k, that the game is just easy. It’s the same as any other game the more you play the easier it is. Remember they have to create a game that inexperienced people need to play. I have a friend who is so trash at the game, he played mycareer in 2k17 and 18 and it took him at least 5 games until he made his first field goal. He just has no awareness of the game. What I’m trying to say is that the developer need to create a game where inexperienced player as well as experienced player can play without it being to easy or too hard for both parties.

TBH there wasn’t really even a story last year... your dude played a street ball tourney, later made an NBA team through a tryout. And the rest of the cutscenes were just random fuckery or an endorsement deal. Nothing even happened lol.

Btw the thing where you can put in your own rosters into mycareer is on last gen 2k (I think bc I played 2k16 last gen and it was there and considering it's the same thing every year it's probably still in the game)

2k13 to me is the greatest 2k off all time, not hard but not easy either. If you have someone who started playing next gen 2k13 and below, they’d be trash at it. They gotta bring it back to that time
