What's up my Gs! Some people say that the current basketball era is too soft and that they miss the physicality of the game back in the 80s and 90s. Do you miss this kind of plays too?
Absolutely brutal. You had to be a GROWN man to go the rim back then cuz there was a 1000 percent chance you are gonna get your clock cleaned. I guarantee you no one was ejected on any of these fouls.
most of those fouls are before the known as "Jordan rules", which introduced the flagrant fouls into the NBA, so yep, most of those are regular fouls lol
@@G.Basketball you don't know shit about the jordan rules lol it was the pistons way to contain MJ not the BS you made up. Basically it was make MJ go to his left and everytime he goes in the paint put him on his ass. Look it up.
Going to the hole was a business decision back then. Sucking at Free throws was gross negligence for penetrator back then because you paid such a hefty cost for those free-throws. Really is a different game.
Do you notice pretty much every player got right back up almost immediately. Players that FLOP in today's NBA stay on the ground longer than these 80/90's hard fouls.....and they are getting paid more. ** LOAD MANAGEMENT HAS ENTERED THE CHAT **
Just for the people claiming that these are common fouls / no calls: 0:08 the Malone foul on Isiah Thomas was a flagrant 2 ejection and suspension. 0:28 Pippen got a technical for this. 0:36 Rory Sparrow was ejected. 1:08 Oakley was ejected and suspended. 1:33 Rodman was given a flagrant 1 foul 1:14 Charles Barkley flagrant 2 ejection 2:22 Bill Laimbeer ejected 3:18 Rodman flagrant 1 foul And I’m sure the others received similar penalties, but I haven’t seen them before so I couldn’t say for sure.
they invented the flagrant foul in 1990 to baby jordan of course all the plays in the 90's were called they put it in the fucking rule book. . here's your no call ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X7r6vXeOfyQ.html
But the problem you had to deal with this kind of defense almost every game on that era that's why players longetivity on that era is short compared todays league whi just keep jackin up 3's
@@xavierbradley2681 good defense? i never said that. but if you watch old games like Knicks vs Nets 1994 1st round (on youtube) you will HEAR the game commentators talk about how the knicks hand checking was bothering the quick and nimble Kenny Anderson.
@@xavierbradley2681 Knicks were top 3 in opponent FG% AND points allowed. from 1992-1994.. and they were PHYSICAL. so curse and cry all you want. you DONT know any better.

@@slatecity the nba players didn’t start lifting weights until around 1990. Lebron wouldve resembled his skinny physique that he entered the league with if he played in the 80’s. He probably would’ve gotten as big as he did in 09 had he started lifting in the 90’s, but that’s it. He wouldn’t have had the excessive ped’s to utilize, which he’s been doing since 2010.
I like how 50% of this is Bulls, Pistons, Knicks and Celtics. During the ‘80s it was usually the Bulls getting beat up though. I say this as a Chicago native.
@@RobinXlone Prolly cause Jordan didn't have good supporting back up against the dynasty Lakers and Celtics. Poor Jordan was always getting beat up by the Bad Boy Pistons whenever they decided he was scoring too much.
Politics have changed. Kinda like how when u get in a car accident and u walk out of it pain-free, most will claim they got hurt because it just makes more sense -- u get a financial gain. In sports, this could be a turnover, or a free possession and even suspension of a player, all.of which can benefit the opposing team. But one wouldn't do it if the other wouldn't do it to them. It just suddenly became a norm.
These are fouls. Regardless of the play. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hMU_Y2O_MBA.html People still fouling like this in the NBA today.
@@RobinXlone it isn't necessarly but it's definetely way more harder to score if you know you're going to get physically smashed if you decide to go for the basket or you'll be constantly unbalanced by being constantly handchecked, remember there was no flagrant foul before 1990 or 1991 if i'm not mistaken, what is a flagrant foul today would be considered a regular foul back then.
These same fouls woud be flagorant 1 or ejection. Back then just shoot FTs 🤣🤣... also MJ PLAYED ALL 82 GAMES 9 times !!!!!!! In that era. To Lebrons 1.
@@marving6333 if you're a little b*TCH maybe. Nothing wrong with a bit of physicality you get hit you get up obviously you too soft but there are actual men in the world
I'm fairly young and I've definitely complained a lot about how soft the modern game is, and how dudes cry when they get touched in pickup BUT a lot of these are overly excessive and unnecessary. I see why the rules are the way they are today. From the owner's standpoint, it makes sense as well to protect their players.
Players will adopt to the play players today is soft because the rules is soft if they bring back the 90's physicality players will adopt that's why these era is a joke compared to 90's
Keep in mind this is a cherry-picked highlights video. Wasn’t like every time someone drove to the basket they got clotheslined. But yea, it was a more physical game then in general in terms of jostling and contact.
He would also have that same mindset to foul hard and being that he is same size as Karl malone. I don't think too many people would want a lebron with a Ron artest mindset.
1:42 Let's go for a ride you won't score that easy on me. P.S Great video and all these fouls are not flagrant. At that time all this fouls are a personal foul.
I’m sorry but if you think some of these plays didn’t deserves ejections you’re crazy. If you straight up go for someone’s head and not even a chance at the ball you should be tech-2d or given a flagrant.
@@jacobsmoot3311 exactly. All these people saying "we should go back to the 80s and 90s". Oh, you mean when players lasted till they were 30 because of the myriad of injuries they sustained? Or the league was getting sued all the time? This isn't basketball. It's a bunch of children who can't play defense so they resort to violence.
@Chris Webster a foul to stop an easy lay up is completely different than trying to do harm, which is what they are doing in this video. Again, that's not basketball
Unwritten "no layup rule" back then. Basically, if anyone attempts a layup or dunk, you put their ass in the 3rd row & make them earn it at the line. In todays game when someone attacks the rim the defender steps aside & watches. They're scared to get posterized because it will ruin their image & they'd probably get fined & suspeded too. Thats why todays stars dont do dunk contests cuz if they lose it may hurt their brand or image. Michael had a good philosophy for this... don't lose
missed the clip of oak laying shaq out in this video eh ? shaq was only dominant when all the dominant centers retired and they softened the game up. shaq couldnt dominate rik smits lol
there were some hacker basketball fouls. but when you watch full games, the defense is a joke compared to today. could you imagine lambier trying to guard anyone today? his ankles would be broke so quick he wouldn't get a chance to hit them.
so what I've gathered from this video is that the defense was so bad back in the day that they just resorted to fighting? this is the sorriest excuses of defense I've ever seen. people saying Lebron wouldn't last are delusional. Demar Derozan would average 75 a quarter. this defense is horrible lmfao
lol and from what I gather, you seem to think you are some type of NBA expert.. yet since scoring has been made EASIER due to NBA rule changes, your "expert" assessment seems foolish.
I’m a 41 year old mom who is 5 foot 1, when I was a kid in HS I had girls purposely trip me from behind, close line me, even boys who were 5’11-6’ would come at me full speed and push me from behind. It was brutal and scary playing ball in the 90’s.
@@liluncookednoodle bro players today get injured even more than players back then. Smdh y'all just can't admit todays era is SOFT AS FUCK. IT IS. Alot of these fouls on this video was just regular fouls. Nobody was ejected or suspended. You just got ur ass up, shook it off and went to the line.
Yeah and today you got beef stew running into the tunnel after somebody. There's not as much of a difference in the physicality as there is in the officiating and League perspective. And that's a problem.
Dude they should have a purge week in the NBA. Instead of all star weekend. Let players play dirty like 80s players. Think about it. Pat Bev could be the MVP. Can you imagine Devin Booker throwing foul tantrums because Luka is threw an elbow in the post?
Y’all weird for thinking this how the game should be played. Some fouls now are wack too but this is closer to how the game shouldn’t be played then how it should be. I think playoff basketball now is how it should be all the time
And what is wrong with this style of bball when defence was played an guys had passion? Typical muppet that only wants highlight reel basketball soft as fuck
@@badwolverinex17 that couldnt play after 30. all the legends in the 80s were out of the league by the 90s. all the 90s legends were irrelevant in the 2000s. this is real men playing basketball this is wwe wrestling
@@slatecity the games were more intense due to the extra physicality. thats why many of us have stopped watching modern basketball. its boring. but for those that old enough to remember and still like basketball (even they agree it was more exciting back then) and for those TOO YOUNG to know any better, today's NBA product is just fine.. just not for me..
This isn’t “real” basketball. This isn’t “skill”. This is a bunch of coked up defenders with no lateral agility or coordination tackling the even lesser skilled offensive player. We don’t with the 80s!!!
Sorry. Despite the dramatic musis, MOST of these were not that hard, except the Rodman shove on Pippen. A few times a guy wrapped up to prevent a 3 point play, but nothing outrageous. There are much harder fouls today.
Really. This lame shit they play today is like the NBA version of turning the NFL into flag football...except they actually did it, and pretend they didn't
