The trend seems to be swinging back if you look at the past 3 championships. The Bucks, Warriors, and Nuggets all won on the backs of mostly homegrown talent. All their top guys were either self-drafted and/or spent many seasons on the team developing before they won.

I always thought that was so unnecessary. The Warriors were already building a dynasty at that point. They drafted Curry, Clay Thompson and Draymond Green, who was one of the last picks in the 2nd round of his draft. One of my first basketball memories was seeing a headline of the Admiral (David Robinson) vs the Worm (Rodman). Worm was a well-earned nickname. On the other hand, the one good thing he did was defense. He got lots of rebounds and that let the others focus on offense.

None of this is true. Rodman was coming off two great DPOY level seasons. He called out Robinson and Pop for letting Hakeem have his way with them during the playoffs. San Antonio was tired of his justified criticism. The moment Rodman arrived in Chicago, I knew they were winning.

@shlidgn90 "justified criticism", how were they supposed to beat Hakeem, Clyde Drexler, Big Shot Rob (Horry) hitting game winners that very series vs spurs, Maxwell, Kenny the Jet, Cassel etc when all Spurs had was basically Robinson. Getting Rodman was a terrible decision. Spurs needed an offensive player to get the double and triple off of Robinson, Hakeem had that privilege, Robinson did not. Instead they got Rodman who can't score or do anything besides rebound. Rodman being trash on offense is a huge reason why spurs lost in playoffs. Funny thing is that they still would have probably won that series if not for Robert Horry being Mr. Clutch for Houston. Bulls it worked out, since they didn't even really need Rodman anyways lol. Plus they had 2 big scorers instead of 1 so they could benefit by using rodmans rebounds.

@@shlidgn90 You're wrong. Rodman was a great rebounder and defender also in San Antonio but he had huge personality, temper, and mental problems. He went even missing and they were looking for him for days, lost in a vagon. There were rumours about him having suicidal tendencies, and everybody had heard about drugs and alcohol. The Bulls worked hard for keeping him relatively calm, with very heavy exercise to consume his energy and clear his mind, as Phil Jackson wrote, MJ himself hanging around with him, they hired his buddy as a player to sit in suit on the bench and cheer for him, and of course the clapping tactic to control his range in order to remain in the game. Then, in LA, Shaq said Rodman was the worst teammate he ever had, and nobody liked him in Dallas too. The Bulls needed a power forward after Horace Grant left, and that was the only reason they took that risk with the worm. Nobody knew they were winning. We all expected to see if that move could be succesful, and most importantly if Michael would be able to return to his previous condition, for the Bulls to have a shot at the title against Orlando, Houston and the others. What happened was beyond Bulls fans hopes and dreams.
