Clyde said that in 92, after his bitter finals loss and the Dream Team, where he faced off against MJ daily, his frustration and ego were doubtlessly at a boiling point. Charles Barkley said similar things about MJ around that time, but his opinions are different now. It's not fair to quote someone 30+ years later when, probably, his current views are more humble and accepting. From everything I've heard about Clyde, he was and is one of the nicest, humblest, and kindest NBA stars. LBJ's narcissistic BS should be mocked and criticized because that's his present opinion, and unlike Clyde, millions of brain-dead Lebronsexuals believe him.

I am so annoyed by these narratives of modern NBA media and fans about older players being weaker, especially Jordans competition. These people claim Dame over Drexler when discussing the Portland GOAT. Just ridiculous. Drexler led the Trail Blazers to 2 finals in 3 years while Dame just got to the West Finals once and got swept. I never saw Drexler play, but you just need to look at Basketball reference to see that Clyde was a better rebounder, had more steals and blocks than Dame. Also, his assist numbers were awesome for a SG. He was a more efficient scorer, a better playmaker for his position and a better defender than Lillard, had more team success and was actually a top 3 player which Dame never was during his career. The mental gymnastics of modern NBA fans are so annoying. It is this disgusting movement of talking down on older generations to prop up the modern NBA which suffers from soft defense, entitled superstars and chucking 3s.
Clyde was a little taller, but unless Clyde has receipts from winning a foot race and weight-lifting contest over MJ, the “faster and stronger” claim is just his personal opinion, nothing more. There was NOTHING I ever saw Clyde do on the basketball court that shows him being “faster and stronger” than MJ. All we know for sure is that he was a little taller. And all of the EVIDENCE shows MJ was far better at basketball, so all the rest is irrelevant talk from an old dude chasing some glory.
Do what if fate had decided that Jordan was drafted by the Blazers and Drexler by the Bulls, with the same coaches and casts in place? Would a Drexler/Pippen/Grant and then a Drexler/Kukoc/Rodman/Harper team had won championships? Would Jordan/Cliff Robinson/Duckworth/Terry Porter have ruled the West, and the league? These thoughts keep me up at night.
@@_M.... Blazers had a way better team and organization than the Bulls with championship history. That wouldve been scary and the Bulls wood never be on the map
@@Defender78 What a silly hypothetical claim because we know for a fact the Blazers were a better team than Jordan's early Bulls. They made it to the second round in '85 when Clyde wasn't even the best player on his team or even close to ROOKIE Jordan. You put ROOKIE Jordan on that team, and they probably push the Lakers to the brink, if not outright beat them. (Lakers beat the Blazers in 5 games) Clyde was not a better basketball player than Jordan at any point in his career.
I think watching the Slam Dunk Contest from the late 80's prove Clyde wasn't stronger or faster. Clyde's lift when jumping was noticeably lower than MJ's. He even tried the free throw line dunk and failed miserably. I was 15 when MJ joined the NBA and was a diehard fan, so I watched both those guys throughout their careers. Like they say "seeing is believing".

That bigger stronger, and faster statement. Should show how certain professional player's think they should be compared to Michael Jordan, and in reality the games that they played had different outcomes. That shows why they weren't as good as Michael Jordan. Clyde Drexel had better teammates than Michael Jordan, and so has LeBron James. And Michael Jordan overcame all those obstacles to become the greatest basketball player ever and of all times Michael Jordan.
No; Clyde had Hakeem, Horry, Cassel, a washed Barkley, and Terry Porter. Jordan had Grant, Rodman, Pippen, Kucoc, Kerr, and Harper. Pretty even, but I'd say it leans Bulls in the scheme of things. Factor in the favoritism the Bulls received ref wise post Space Jam, I'd say Clyde has every right to remain competitive when speaking of his legacy.
@@joepermenter7228 you're really cutting Drexler's teammates short. You didn't even mention Kiki Vandeweghe, who would be a first ballot HOFer if he played alongside Jordan. @@atlien1988 Nah, Kersey and Robinson were cold; but the world should remember Robert Horry. My bad for forgetting those two, mainly because Robinson was young as fuck and Kersey was a no show in the big moments. Points for Duckworth, Otis Thorpe, and Kevin Willis' rebounding ability though....

In a candid interview with Clyde Drexler after the Dream Team's run in 1992. By that time, Michael Jordan had already beaten Clyde the Glide in the 1992 NBA Finals. And while that in and of itself was enough for people to slow down with the comparison between the two, in Drexler's mind, he didn't see that. Perception has a powerful effect on the brain, you can't stop people from having illusions. An illusion is proof that you don't always see what you think you see. Jordan displayed charisma, superior skills, high-flying athleticism, and a determination to win at all costs in his basketball career. I never heard anybody speak highly of Clyde in this regard. For MJ, to be the topic of the discussions in terms of comparisons or these ridiculous (G.O.A.T) debates just goes to show that MJ has left a positive impact on the NBA as a whole or otherwise he wouldn't be talked about as much.
If he was better than Jordan he would've won a ring with the talent he had around him because I know MJ would've won rings with Drexler's supporting cast
Shaq said had he and his Lakers played MJ and the Bulls they would have beaten them, let me clarify something for him. Had he played the 96 Bulls the 2000 and 2001Lakers might have won 1 if not 2 games but still would have come out short.

The only person who hasn't addressed these comments is Jordan. But every person in the comment section played professional basketball. Unless you have a revisionist perspective, you cannot undue Jordan’s resume. Drexler isn't a top ten greatest NBA player case close
If Clyde played in a larger market like NYC, Philadelphia or DC, he would still be widely remembered as one of the all-time greats. That said, Jordan was clearly the better all-around player.
I never cared much for Jordan ever since he came into the league. I preferred so many others players over Jordan like Drexler, Dominque Wilkins, Magic, and etc. but you have to admit it Jordan was better. Jordan didn’t have the best dunks in fact I thought Wilkins won that dunk contest when they met last. Drexler was very athletic and graceful and it can be argued that he may have been a good second after Jordan. Nobody could argue against Jordan when it comes to determination and sheer will to make that crucial basket. Jordan has the skill and athleticism to match his hyper competitiveness to guarantee a win.
I respect that. I'm a Jordan fan but feel the same for LBJ. I respect him but to be honest. LBJ isn't the killa MJ or Kobe was. LBJ is a freak, but you basically broke down why I would pick MJ over him.
Funny how former players are saying this AFTER everyone has retired lol... Why didn't they say this when they was playing in their prime? Because they knew exactly how Jordan would react and then school their asses on the court.
Drexler had all the talent Jordan had. What he did not have was the green light for unlimited shots and the media following. Thus, Jordan could win the offensive comparison based on numbers and the media could hype up the performance. From there, the rest is history.
i dont know why people shit on clyde. He led his team to 2 nba finals in the most stack era in nba history. The 80s had 3 dynasties. sixers, pistons, lakers, and celtics. Where as in todays era James, Harden, Damien Illard, Russell Westbrick, and Antonio Davis couldnt led there teams to a nba finals.
Clyde was great but, the real comparison at the time was MJ and Dominique. Unfortunately Dominique wasn’t on a better team and ruptured his Achilles although he did come back almost as good once healed. It was amazing! Human Highlight Film was tough!
Drexler was awesome. That's exactly why he was on the dream team. These dudes lately comin at Jordan is absolutely hilarious 😂 They just can't let it go and be humble SMH
This is what happens when you play for two media hated teams, get zero credit for your on court ability(top in game dunker and clutch shooter ever), and have your one ring get undermined, where the other great 2g in the league was considered retired, even though he was on a NBA roster.
I was at Game 1 and Game 6 at the Stadium. Those 6 3’s in the first half were a hoot. Keep in mind it was Pippen and second string that brought the Bulls back from a 15 point 4th quarter deficit in Game 6. It was essentially over when MJ reentered the game. He made sure the Bulls were not going to lose in those final minutes
Blazers swore they had that game. I'll always remember that comeback with the likes of Bobby Hansen, Cliff Levingston and the bench FINALLY taking a game over when Jordan wasn't able to.
"Keep in mind it was Pippen and second string that brought the Bulls back from a 15 point 4th quarter deficit in Game 6." Refs played a very significant role in that, a number of bad calls changing momentum/trajectory of the game. Highly uncharecteristic of the Blazers to blow that kind of lead at the very end. The Bulls can thank the refs for the bailout.
@@thesoutherngentleman1261 Hahaha... fucking basic bitches, EVERYWHERE!! "BAD boy" =/= "Bad Boy" "I didn't know P Diddy signed Clyde to his record label" DO BETTER
Nah my argument is that they should've played the year before 90/91 season Portland was the best team in the league that year and Drexler was phenomenal
Remember when everyone said Clyde was the better 3 pt shooter before the finals vs Drexler? Then Jordan did an interview and said Clyde is a better 3pt shooter then he CHOOSES TO be. With a smirk. Then the next day he decided to choose to be better at 3s. And sank 9 in game one of the finals, the shrug game? Drexler seen first hand how much better Jordan was at even the things Clyde’s stats had shown him to better at. Lol. Idk how u talk about this without showing the interview and game 1 of that finals
Being a huge fan of Clyde and the Blazers, i personally don't think he was better. However, he certainly was a hell of a lot closer than people nowadays assert that he was. He was a much better passer, all around more unselfish (sadly, to the detriment of the Blazers' success sometimes), almost as good on defense, equally as deadly mid range or in the post, as good or better at driving to the hoop and finishing (which is saying a lot - since MJ is without question one of the greatest of all time at taking it to the hoop), and eventually developed a three-point shot that was almost as good as Jordan's! The one thing Jordan was much better at was ball-handling, on pretty much everything else the two were extremely close. Clyde's by far the single most underrated player from that era, (late 80's to late 90's), and doesn't remotely get the respect he deserved/deserves. So at the end of the day, even though i don't think he was overall quite as great as MJ, he was pretty damn close. It's definitely far more absurd to assert that the guy was somehow nowhere near the same level as Jordan, the way so many people nowadays believe.
That's accurate. Stats and rings don't tell the whole picture. MJ himself admitted to teammates Clyde was as good as he was, in terms of raw talent. No one was better at mythologizing themselves than MJ. Clyde wasn't about all that. Len Bias was better than MJ in college. And Drexler was prob as good to MJ as an all around player as MJ was to Bias.
@@Adam_A_Christian Amen man! It really pissed me off the way that Last Dance doc portrayed Clyde in that, like he was some pretender or some shit. That whole doc was but a MJ puff piece and gave a greatly distorted view of 80's and 90's NBA to the younger generation. They also did Horace Grant, and Pippen dirty as well. Making it seem like Horace was some minor role player, when in actuality integral to those first three tittles while being one of the greatest PF defenders and rebounders of all time - while also be a deadly offensive threat due to his ability to run the court for fast-breaks, his deadly jumper, and his great post moves, (the guy legit woulda averaged 20 or so a game if he had been on nearly any other team in the league back in the early 90s). But unfortunately he had Scottie, who was a little ball dominant in his own right, but more importantly - Horace also had MJ - who was legit one of the biggest ball-hogs of his era, (something Clyde never came close to being btw). And wouldn't ya know it, the first year Jordan took off - was the yr where Grant averaged nearly twenty a game and made the all-star team! And yet the doc made Grant out to be some minor scrub.
what clyde lacked was a ball handle..mj got more east points from his superior foot work n handle..clyde was close in every other category n mj mid range was better as well..imagine clyde 6 more points to his career average just from being better shooter n ball handler that helped him create better shots..
You can't compare Micheal Jordan and Clyde Drexler because they played different positions during their NBA careers. Micheal Jordan was a shooting guard and Clyde Drexler was a small forward. So, it would compare both player's games. And Jordan handled the basketball more than Drexler did.
Hiding Michael Jordan were almost the same exact height and weight! Clyde drexler forgot to mention that Michael Jordan started lifting weights, AND he DEFINITELY was the SAME size, Clyde JUST had a little bit MORE wider shoulders! Clyde was 6'7, Jordan was 6'6 225-230lbs from the time he was about 29 years old til he retired
I always liked Clyde. He was very athletic, very smooth. Stylistically, he was very much like Jordan. Perhaps he was faster, more athletic, etc. Not saying I believe that, but it's possible. But this, for me, is where the comparisons come to a screeching halt. Clyde simply can't hold a candle to Jordan's accomplishments, which must be attributed to something if not his speed, agility and athleticism. I suppose if these are the attributes that Clydes uses to call himself 'better' than Jordan, then so be it. But my definition - and the one that most folks probably use - is more centered around talent and results. And those, Clyde, Jordan has in spades.
Yeah that very popular argument went down the drain once they played in the playoffs. Even though Clyde didn't really play bad, Jordan simply took him to town. Clyde simply couldn't stop him and rarely really seemed to challenge his shot.
Drexler was playing one one five. Discrepancies in Chicago and Portland rosters. When Drexler joined Houston Rockets Olajuwon and Horry Smith Cassell Elle what happened. Jordan didn't make NBA finals and 95 Rockets swept Orlando with Shaq Penny Anderson Horace Grant. Jordan had guys Pippen Rodman kucoch Kerr Phil Jackson 11 rings.
MJ was next level, this aint close, prolly two levels up on Clyde. Now imagine MJ got drafted by Portland instead of Sam Bowie, I want to hear your take on this if this' a win or bust. Would MJ played the point. Will MJ be as successful, will there be an ego issue, who would play the sidekick. etc etc.
Nobody talks about the Actual Migraine game! 😮. MJ. Played his cape was not at the cleaners but he got wacked... Bulls 73 - Pistons 91. Sitting on the beach at end of game chilling 😎. Gm 7 1990 eastern conference finals.
NO... NEGATIVE ! Drexler do not have the competition Jordan had Jordan had to compete against an older brother and he was ignored by his father this created a determination and Jordan that could not be stopped by no player! Once Jordan grew to 6 ft tall he was Unstoppable! It's amazing to see a basketball player like Drexler! He is as good as Jordan to a point but he doesn't have the Killer Instinct
These haters cannot stop! Now they’re just making shit up. Just stop it! If you can’t see it, then you’re blind and we can’t help you Jordan is the best ever!
Drexler is now hanging out with Isiah cuz they both are hating Jordan and feeling salty. Clyde is mad cuz he got beat bad especially when Jordan hit those 6 3pt shots in a half and SHRUGGED on his team....(sorry Clyde: MJs 6 chips don't make you better; it makes you wishing you were)😆
Clyde Drexler was a great player, an all time great, but Michael Jordan was just on another level. Jordan was/is the GOAT. There is no shame in being in Jordan's shadow. I understand Clyde's frustration. It's like if you were a reasonably good looking guy, making a good above average income, with a nice job, but there's that one guy in your church that's really handsome, went to an Ivy League school like Harvard or Princeton, is good at everything he tries, and is making 4 or 5 times what you make. You're still doing well, and you ain't a bad looking dude either, but it's useless trying to compare yourself to a Brad Pitt hot shot doctor or lawyer from Harvard.
Drex was my guy growing up but no way was he as good as jordan the thing that made jordan the goat was his ability to rise to the occasion in big games Drexler faded in those games i watched them all
TMac vs 1st round. Lol!! You know you wrong for that Uncut Hoops. Seriously, Drexler was VERY underrated. Better than MJ? No. But pretty dang good. TBH, MJ overshadowed some really good players from that time. Dominique, Barkley, just to name 2.
It’s crazy to read some of the comments I get it championships hold weight but they don’t tell the whole story. 1 thing people seem to leave out is what happens to your career when the league puts its reputation on your back. Things tend to go your way a lot more. Add that to being a generational talent and you have a recipe for complete dominance.
Clyde was great but thank god he was the reason why the Bulls were able to draft Jordan. We in Chicago were very fortunate MJ dropped to #3 in that draft
Clyde Drexler didn't have that killer instinct. He had all the attributes like Jordan. The only difference is that Jordan took the challenge and took it personal. Jordan was like you think you're as good as me let me show you whose better. It was always a challenge for Jordan and he was going to show he was the best. You have to have that dog mentality. Clyde Drexler s personality wasn't like that. That's why he wasn't as good. But if Drexler had that same mindset he could be better than Jordan. Drexler was too humble and quiet not a trash talker and Jordan was the opposite of that.
If Drexler played now he would be even better, how could you compare harden to him, hes a better athlete and player remember he plays defense the other guy struggles with that.
I was always a Drexler fan. He was a calm calculated player. His style reminded me of Dr J. He could take over when his team needed a boost. Clyde the Glide🔥. MJ is the goat but I liked Drexler better!
I believe that Clyde, along with Dominique Wilkins was RUNNING NECK AND NECK with Jordan, who was MORE COMMERCIALIZED!!!! But at least, Clyde has his NBA 💍 AND HIS SPOT IN HIS OLYMPICS. MAY THE MOST HIGH BLESS HIM!!!!
Clyde could never play defense like Mike nor did he ever lead the league in points. Not quite sure how he could say he was better then Mike with a straight face. I always had the opinion the Clyde was a cheap carbon copy
Drexler was awesome he was very underrated I love Drexler my biggest underrated player who I think is the best ever big man is The Dream Hakeem Olajuwon people say Shaq but The Dream had more rebounds and had more blocks than Shaq Olajuwan had more block shots than anyone in history and the 2nd best was Dikemba and he had 700 more than him and 1000 more than Shaq plus Hakeem embarrassed Shaq in the the NBA finals to me Olajuwon was the best big man ever he was fast could dribble shot and played like a guard but was 7 foot
