Im 57 and from Detroit where Gervin is from as well. My jr high math teacher was an old coach of Ice. 1 summer he took the whole class to see Ice play in a closed gym game against some pros and streetball legends of Detroit. Mannnn Ice put on a show! Usually in games like this the small guards show out. But Ice is 6'7 and put on a million moves. Dunks, sweet ass reverse layups, pump fake shots, finger rolls from anywhere, turn around jumpers etc...

George Gervin was DEFINITELY a once-in-a-lifetime, one-of-a-kind player!!! I’m a diehard Boston Celtics fan and the first poster I’d get if they still made it wouldn’t be of Bob Cousy or Bill Russell or John Havlicek or Dave Cowens or Larry Bird or Kevin McHale or Robert Parish. It would be of the “Iceman” sitting all in white on that block of ice dribbling those two white basketball. You wanna talk cool? You don’t ge no cooler than “Ice!"

Thank you Mr. David. I saw George Gervin play in Rome Italy against Banco di Roma in the early 80's. It was the end of his career but it was still great to see him. He was still very imaginative. All the other players clearly revered him. The Roman crowds seemed pleased and excited. I grew up on the streets of New York and I remember starting to shoot the finger roll, like the big kids and young men who played in tournaments. I played in The Rucker Tournament three summers with three different teams.

Thanks for doing GG!!! The Bulls were my lifelong team (from the outer Chicago area) and the Spurs were my "West" team beginning in 1990 when The Admiral was drafted. GG is one of those 'forgotten' players. Shawn (sp), inlight of Brunson's new NYN playoff game scoring record, maybe we can get a Bernard King episode, or maybe Oscar Robertson (he was a BAAAD Man) or Dr. J, another 'forgotten' juggernaut. For those who never saw Dr. J, he was smooth, cool, and strong/showtime on the court, like 'Coffee Black' from 'Semi-Pro', but too cool to be goofy. Keep up the great work!

I still say he's the best mid-range scorer in NBA history. The guy was like a boneless sea creature...imagine an octopus playing basketball. So smooth. Gervin would bang with anybody. James worthy of the Lakers was always tryin' to get physical in the low post with him, so Iceman just put 3-pointers in his eyes, which drew worthy to the outside, Gervin would catch the ball, gather himself up acting like he was gonna take a 3, he'd head fake worthy into leaping out the building and calmly drive in for two. He hemmed worth up like that 4 times in a row. Worthy got so frustrated he was no good for the rest of the quarter.
